I had a star apple on the Big Island near Kurtistown in 2016. I didn't intend on buying it but I paid 60 cents. My gosh, it was one of the best fruits I had ever tasted.
I was hoping this fruit farm survived the lava, but reading your comment below I found out that this property was lost to lava. Quite sad because it takes many years to grow those fruit trees. Star Apple, Jackfruits, and Mangoes are my favourites. This farm reminds me of my childhood. I’m a fruit tree climber (esp when I was a kid).
You can harvest avocados almost all year round , just planting differents varieties -- the seeds flour is even richer in nutrients than the fruit itself ---- just cut in small pieces when it is still fresh , put it to dry in the sun and afterwards takes it to the blender
As I look out my window at the three feet of snow in my yard, this tour raises my hopes that spring will come someday. Very interesting homestead. Thank you for the video,Gabe
Great video content. We love when you take us around the local area showing the land and homesteads. The weather is getting better. Can't wait to see what you have in store for everyone this summer. Aloha 🤙
absolutely epic. Im working towards getting out of the rat race via homesteading. I love hard work and eating what I sow. thanks all around for your and his time / energy to make this video. very inspiring.
Farm fruit trees is all i wanna do till i no longer can, i can say am da female version of your friend! Glad to have seen and watched this! Mahalo to you Gabe. Aloha

I have seen jack fruit in grocery stores quite often, and for a rather long time as well, but I have always been hesitant to buy it because, I didn't know what to expect flavor-wise. Now that I know, I will definitely get some the next time I go shopping.
Great video cousin. Glad to see the interest in connecting with the Earth and growing homestead tree crops. Beautiful environment to grow a self-sustaining life.
Amazing! All those tropical fruits in your back yards. At my parents I was lucky enough to grow up with an apple orchard down the garden, great for eating and climbing. Stay safe.
Fun little fact, the flavor for juicy fruit is actually a chemical found in jackfruit, not jackfruit its self. You get the exact flavor for juicy fruit as a byproduct of making whiskey (or some other alcohol, but i believe it was whiskey)
I see a lot of filipino fruits, i use to eat a lot of star apple because my backyard has 2 the green and the purple one. You can freeze them and they will taste like ice cream sweet creamy icecream
beautiful homestead! would love to get out of Michigan and help with life like this. Hawaii has been a dream of mine since I was a kid. keep up the amazing work!!
I could be very happy living the rest of my life here, growing my own food, etc. I come from the Caribbean & came to the US as a teen. Now as an adult, I am wiser about the rat race & really miss my much simpler life. Hawaii seems very similar in climate & food, of my birth country. Florida is my first option, but Hawaii is catching up. 😃
Awesome Video! Thanks for sharing! I want to buy land in hawaii in the future to homestead. Have you ever showed your house? I would be interested to see more of your setup!
Wow what a great video so educational juicy free gum nutmeg much more than can imagine loved it you’re so much more than a guy in not an everyday dude keep it coming I’ve always learned so much from you much aloha
I think soursops are only shy bearers outside of their natural environment. Here in Central America, they produce like crazy! One medium size tree can produce hundreds of fruits at a time.
Hello! Good afternoon! Sir, I've been watching your kinds of tree, Amazing! Can you show again the Theobroma Cacao, I need more learn, regards the Durian. Me I have some more tree like coconut tree, & C Cacao too!
Sweet! So when I get to my lavastead, he can hook me up with some trees? Great video as always, Gabe. Looking forward to starting my own adventure in 6 months.
Jack fruit very sweet I have many trees in my village , it’s produce a lot of fruit. When we lived only Montagnards indigenous people in that village a very body have those plant ,now Vietnamese Came they moved us to other place hard to farm nothing grow .
how is this place faring during your eruption emergency recently? i do hope his work is safe. so many wonderful trees and plants that would be a shame to see be covered in lava...
HI, Thank you for your videos, I love everything about Hawaii.. Can you tell me when is the Star Apple season? We go to Hawaii every other years and usually between June and July. We plan on our next trip to be the Winter or 2018. Thanks.
Great video, thanks. Were living in San Francisco now and plan to retire somewhere around Hilo, Puna area, at least live there for a few years. No farming or homestead we like to hang out and do some fishing. Where do you think we can find a rental in a safe area close to public trans.?
Cupuaçu is the native brazillian name for Theobroma Grandiflorum --- the seeds can be eaten baked , toasted or boiled ; very rich in nutrients ------ theo broma ( gods food in greek )
Sour Sap. Here in Brazil Sour Sap we call Graviola. Is great in juices and ice creams. CUPUAÇU is a COCOA cosin. But have much more pulp. A little sour but delicate flavor. And his chocolate is very nice. And you are don't have cashew tree in Hawaii? Allohaaaa!
I am wondering why star apples are called star apples when its appearance, texture and taste is similar to a really ripe black plum, except it has more seeds?
Have a look in the work of this swiss guy ( Ernst Gtsch) in Bahia , Brasil --- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_Gotsch ; I couldnt managed to find a video in english for you , with him . He has acomplished an incredible work
Nomad Survival Forum most tropical fruits have two Harvest seasons a year. It really depends on rainfall nutrients elevation just a lot of things. In the next video I will give a little bit more details on each plant. To give you a rough answer.... February March April August September October bananas almost all year round. Mahalo for watching
Aloha I just cut down 5 banana stocks you just have to build it with all The old branch leaves I saw a lady in Florida building hers great I'd like to help what's his higher Elevation just curious hugs from Oahu and my heart
Nancy Wolfe 10 to 20 grand an acre. you could buy a 5-acre lot that's got some trees established and a ranch house you'd pay around $150,000. If the property is on a dirt road it's cheaper but you don't have access to County Water and you might not be able to get electricity. Mahalo for watching
Brandon Lamar the general rule is if your property is on a dirt road you can have livestock and a farm. Recently some subdivisions have been creating homeowners associations and implementing rules.
Oh by the way, Thanx You and your friend for a job well done. I really enjoyed this video. I hope you didn't think I was asking something stupid. I got info to buy some stock to grow Marijuana, I don't joke about money, I was just wondering if you know any companies that might be buying up alot of land, and lemme know so I could research them. Some speculate that it might be very profitable if you get on the ground floor. But then again, I'm a Currency Trader. 4X = Forex a market I trade not my size heh heh, But Puh-lease Thanx that Gentleman and Yourself for a great video.,,.
