Friendly neighbourhood Judo black belt here. Well, there is a lot to be said in this match. 0:30 First of all, we judokas (both new school and traditional) don't learn any locks that involve the legs, besides one kata that is for black belt fifth dan (quit a bit further away from my scope lol). He didn't secure the lock on the ankle ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tlhMv5tgHgQ.html&ab_channel=Chadi ru-vid.comDDhGmI7CI0A 2:11 And now the awaited moment. It could be a ouchi maki komi (o uchi gari falling to the ground with him) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-sSEaC2Y1-e0.html&ab_channel=EfficientJudo , but the leg is behind him, not between his legs. Therefore it's a tani otoshi ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FIm6V2sAgb8.html&ab_channel=Ochiru. The issue was that he didn't turn properly when executing the throw, usually you want your hand to be on their lower back and turn lighthly when falling so when they fall they don't fall on your shoulder. That's what happened, he might've dislocated his shoulder when falling as he turned a lot with his shoulder in a bad position due to his hand placement and throw direction. It's nice that you want to learn about throws, that ko uchi maki komi analysis was quite decent for someone that doesn't practice Judo! By the way, the double leg takedown in Judo is called Morote Gari, so you were 50% right on that one! To end the analysis, I'm sure that this Judo guy did some Jiu Jitsu, as we don't do the imanari roll, but I'm a bit shocked here that if he did do Jiu Jitsu didn't go for a choke or armbar when he got that tani otoshi. I need the opinion of my BJJ brothers here. This guy is too skilled with an imanari roll, but then he can't secure it. Thougths?.
@adriafro7321

Maybe he did wrestling i think in wrestling imanari roll is practiced. That would mean why he didnt went for a choke or armbar.
@sfkingalpha

"I'm a bit shocked here that if he did do Jiu Jitsu didn't go for a choke or armbar when he got that tani otoshi." Well if he indeed dislocate his own shoulder dropping like that into tani otoshi, he can't go for those. If that's not the case.. the guy has his head locked anyway. There might be a ton of stuff missing from his regular game, as the opponent isn't wearing a gi.
@adriafro7321
@adriafro7321 4 месяца назад
Tough old school judokas did learn leg grab techniques maybe when he trained they indeed learned that stuff. Tough i remember learning to do transitions into leg grabs couchi gari-into leg grab and other stuff, i still never learnt the imanari roll, but we did learnt flying juji gatame (i dont recall the actual name)
@davidm2843
@davidm2843 4 месяца назад
The imanari isn't that hard to do, certainly going by the number of blue and white belts I've seen use it. Plus he's doing it against a non-grappler. But his actual leglock game was poor. Little control meant no finish. It was a kind of weird body lock\tani otoshi hybrid throw. Maybe the tight body lock with his arms contributed to the dislocation?

This a prime example of when people say "Judo does not work without a gi" when in fact it does. Also a prime example of why you should know grappling and striking
@jestfullgremblim8002

Judo has almost every Takedown that has ever existed, the fact that they practice *most* of them with a gi does not mean that it will onlu work with one. For example, the throw "O Goshi" is done in Judo by grabbing the Gi or Obi (belt) but you can do it with just a deep underhook, which is how i do it in No Gi. Almost every Judo throw has a no gi version, unless we are talking about throws that 100% have to use the gi like Korean Seoi Nage and Sode Tsurikomi Goshi, but those have versions that do not use the gi anyways
@MJ-rr4hd
@MJ-rr4hd 4 месяца назад
yeah.... actually..... most people walk on street with cloths on..... even the attackers. so a gi actually mimics real cloths. like you said....judo has like over 100 takedowns that doesn't involve grabbing the gi.

2:20 This wasn't a dislocation nor a submission via lock. See, Judo guy was still able to throw several left hand punches after they went down. Judo guy probably tore something (likely rotator cuff injury). When you tear a tendon or joint, the pain is usually quite delayed, he probably didn't even realize it until he started throwing punches. Then the pain just kept steadily escalating.

Kosoto Gari is performed from the outside, and the side, so difficult to get the chest/belly facing position if you go to the mat, so you have to scramble into position, and if you go to the mat, it's common to have your opponent landing on your left arm, as that's the down side. The guest Judoka demonstrated Kouchi Gari, performed facing on the inside - a better throw to enter guard from.
