Experience an epic paragliding LOW SAVE from just 100 meters above the ground! In this narrative paragliding video, Carlo shares his XC flying tips while launching from Mount Caburn, a potential hotspot for paragliding cross-country flights. Given the extremely low paragliding takeoff point, it becomes crucial to thermal and climb as efficiently as possible.
This paragliding video captures the challenges of a stable day, marked by mostly small and weak thermals, particularly at lower altitudes. Additionally, a low inversion, barely above the hill's height, caps most thermals, making the ascent on our paragliders quite challenging. Watch as Carlo tries to climb and get away from the take off in these conditions, highlighting the importance of precision and strategy in reaching the cloud base against the backdrop of Mount Caburn's take off spot.

About 30 feet many years ago. I was getting lower and lower, and headed to a stand of trees, on a flat plain,. When i got there, there was a thermal just lifting off, that took me to about 3500". Eventually landed on the prom at Blackpool. What a great day.

In Spain I catched one 270 m AGL at 19:00 and scratched 8 min for the first 50 m ended up gaining 700 m and reached another good one lifitng me up to maximum allowed altitude. Landed 20:15 just because of this one thermal. I just thought nah this is too hot down there. My first and till now only 100 k flight, just wished I could break through this airspace at 3100 m and add some more final glide time 😃. Landing just before sunset is kinda magic. To be honest, every start at our little mountain is a low save 😆.

As someone used to flying in the mountains, flat land flying seems like black magic to me 😂 My lowest low save was about 40 meters. I was already preparing to land, when I caught a week thermal in a small, dry river bed. Took me ages to get high enough to continue flying, but the feeling of achievement was awesome

@@flybubblecarlo Mostly finding thermals when low. I'm never confident in finding lift in flat land and it's just a matter of luck. Maybe it needs more advanced planning, in order to not get so low in the first place?

I was on a X-country flight in my hang glider in the Mid North of South Australia and was about 20kms into a 80km goal and started to get low. I noticed a farmer ploughing a brown paddock, so headed towards him, arriving at about 150 feet. He saw me and got out of his cabin and waved to me, so I yelled out, G'day! As I flew over at about 100 feet, I dropped out of my pod harness, preparing to land, when my vario started indicating a small climb of 50fpm, so I started a very flat circle. It got stronger and stronger, reaching 1500fpm to cloudbase of 8000 feet. It was a epic day in my Magic Four hang glider, and now many years later, I am learning to PG.

Low it how every pilot on youtube is slowly switching to the NIviuk arrow I don't use a camera on my flights but I had a few awsome lowsaves. In one case I was already chating with the people in a randome vilage and then noticed a bird in front of me not flaping but going up in a tight circle right in the middle of a grass field that was in the lowest part of the area. Poped up 700m straight in a large bubble of warm air.

If the voice-over has a 'Ray Mears' setting i think that would work better :D It's kind of cool, took me by surprise, but does remind me a bit too much of those cheesy american documentaries about UFOs where the narrator carries the show too much. I did like how the naration told a story, however, and it quite nicely tied it all together. But for a British channel I think it needs a nice British voice-over instead of American. If the naration tool has a David Attenborough setting that might be a bit much, as epic as it might be. Actually, scratch that, switch it to David Attenborough next time! xD

I was testing a Phi Scala 2 on this day, and a few others. Move videos featuring it to follow, hopefully including a full review. It's now my personal favourite EN C 2-liner, and one of my favourite wings of all time to fly. I find it a real job, especially the handling. If I was competing in sports class events or XC leagues, this is the wing I'd chose.
@flybubblecarlo
@flybubblecarlo 5 месяцев назад
From all my testing the Beat and Beat Light are still fantastic mid B wings offering a uniquely great package! That's why so many pilots love them - and such a wide range of pilots, from relatively low airtime to highly experienced. I'm also really impressed with the new AirDesign Vivo 2.

Hi Carlo! Great video! Are you planning to release a review on Phi Scala 2? Very interesting how this glider compares to other 2 line gliderd in c class. How would you rate its performance, handling and accessibility for the pilot? Very few reviews about phi scala2, hope to hear your opinion.

Phi Scala 2 Light review coming up next! 💯
@flybubblecarlo
@flybubblecarlo 5 месяцев назад
Hi! Glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, I am planning to release a review of the Phi Scala 2. From my testing the Scala 2 stands out in the class and so well deserves a review. The overall performance seems to be right at the top of the EN C class to me i.e. I think the Scala 2 is the all-round best performing EN C wing I've ever flown. Although it climbs very well - significantly better than its predecessor - I've found the performance emphasis to be a bit more on top glide and fast speed than floaty and boaty. This is a wing made for going places, it seems to me. I find the handling of the Scala 2 superb. It's the most responsive and agile EN C 2-liner wing I've flown to date, even more so than the Artik R, without being at all over-sporty. With the Scala 2's slightly higher aspect ratio (6.77 flat) I was expecting the pilot demands might be higher but have actually found them to be pretty much on a par with other high C 2-liners e.g. Artik R and Photon (actually I've personally found it more comfortable in turbulence than the latter). As with these other high C wings the pilot demands of the Scala 2 are higher than the more mid C 2-liners i.e. Gin Bonanza 3 and Nova CODEX, which I' also been testing (as well as the ZOOM X2C). Flybubble first impressions review of the Scala 2 light coming soon, which will also give a flavour of the Scala 2. Full review of the Scala 2 to follow, if I have time and all works out!

Like your videos Carlo but to me, this narrator/voice over was a nuisance. On the border of being a parody. Maybe that was deliberate? To give the video a more cinematic expression?
@flybubblecarlo
@flybubblecarlo 5 месяцев назад
Thanks for the feedback. In answer to your questions, the narration is meant to fill in the gaps of things I don't happen to think to say at the time and explain the story of the flight, rather than it being just another paragliding video of a few highlights from a nice flight. From all feedback it seems that some like or even love the narration, which others don't like it so much. If you can be more specific about what you don't like about the narration in this video we can take it on board for future videos. Are there specific parts of it you don't like, does the accent bother you, or is it just the idea of narration per se?
@flybubblecarlo
@flybubblecarlo 5 месяцев назад
ps. Of course we could record the narration ourselves but that takes up even more of our time, which we don't have much spare of.
@frodenimbus

Hi Carlo. Kudos for also adressing non applauding comments! As you might suspect, per se I`m not fond of voice over in films/videos. An exeption is documentaries. The worst use of voice over is in my opinion when it explains the main caracters thoughts and actions! By its mere presence destroying most of the illusion a good movie should make. The use of voice over in this video is well timed. Emphasizing, and filling gaps that some viewers might have in grasping the content. But to me, the voice over breaks/competes with the usual, very good "contact" the viewer has with you when you are the one speaking in one video after the other. A relation developes. Meaning it would be ok if you where the voice over! Yes, the accent bodered me! The narrators solemnly like voice is the kind you hear in documentaries, and typically in films that explains a whole new idea/world to the audience. This video are none of these, thus for me becoming a parody in the voice over parts. Of course it all boils down to taste. Personal preferences. Now you`ve got mine. I very much enjoy your videos so keep them coming! :-)
