Day 1. my two kids and I headed out May 23rd, 2024 on an epic adventure overlanding trip on Vancouver Island. Using the ONX Offroad app we planned our first night to be on a mountain top out side of Sayward, BC. Unfortunately, there was still a little too much snow to get to where we wanted to camp. We were able to find an amazing alpine lake to stop for a quick snack before heading back down the mountain to find a new campsite.
This camp was located at a rec site at Tlowils Lake. Amazing little lake, great for fishing. I didn't shoot any video of it as we got there late and wanted to head out early to our next destination.
Day 2 . We headed towards the West Coast. Today we were trying to make it to an alpine location outside of Gold River. Before making it to the area we decided to check out a second location for another trip. We sure were surprised with the views! You will see my daughter Ary standing on a log in one scene in this spot. After our detour, we headed farther west. Passing a large land slide off a mountain, I decided to send the dji mini 3 drone up to take a look. We stopped in Gold River for some gas and a little bit of cell service next. Finally we were into the mountains that we wanted to be in.
I can't believe our luck! After climbing to a higher elevation we reached an old service road full of ditches. We slowly made our way through them to the end where an epic camping spot waited for us. The views from there were next level amazing! It felt like we were in some National Park like Yosemite. The rock faces stood tall all around use with one high peak overlooking all. In the valley you could hear multiple waterfalls and green meadows were we imagined Elk would be later in the evening. It was pretty sheltered from the wind and so perfect. This was our second night ever setting up our roof top tent so we took our time to get the site all set up before diving into a game of poker ( for candy ) and marshmallows.
Day 3. We woke up to rain, rain and more rain. But that was ok as we were heading home. This was an amazing trip we will never forget. The kids had a blast, I had a blast and the new roof top tent and diesel heater were a great addition to our 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 rig.
