Let me take all of you on a extraordinary adventure that takes you from the verdant valleys of Kinnaur to the arid, mystical landscapes of Spiti . This road trip, weaves through a tapestry of unparalleled natural beauty and rich cultural heritage.
Starting from Kinnaur, you will wind through scenic roads bordered by towering peaks, dense forests and apple orchards. As you ascend, the landscape transforms dramatically, giving way to Spiti's high altitude desert, adorned with ancient monasteries, pristine lakes and quaint villages.

Khab Sangam - Surrounded by stark, rocky terrain, at an altitude of 9000 ft, Khan Sangam is a striking natural marvel in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. It is where the Spiti River meets the Sutlej River, creating a dramatic confluence amidst towering mountain ranges.
Nako Lake - Located in the picturesque village of Nako in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, is a serene high altitude lake surrounded by willow and poplar trees. Situated at an altitude of 12,014 ft , it is one of the most enchanting spots in the region. The village Nako itself is a quaint settlement with traditional homes, offering a glimpse into the local culture and life style.
Tabo Monastery - Tabo, often referred to as the "Ajanta of the Himalayas", is a small village in the Spiti Valley of Himachal Pradesh. Nestled at an altitude of around 10,760 ft, Tabo is renowned for it's ancient Tabo Monastery, one of the oldest and most significant Monastery in the region.
Dhankar Monastery - Perched dramatically on a cliff overlooking the confluence of the Spiti and Pin Rivers, is one of the most spectacular and historically significant monasteries in the Spiti Valley. The name Dhankar translates to "fort on a cliff" aptly describing its precarious yet awe-inspiring location. It is located at an altitude of 12,774 ft.
Best time to Travel to Spiti valley -
Summer - June - September - The best time for the trip as the roads are mostly clear.
Avoid Monsoons - July to August - Risk of landslides and roadblocks.
Early winter - October - Roads start closing due to snow.
Permits - Inner line Permits - Required for foreign nationals and recommended for Indian nationals. It can be obtained from the DC office in Recong Peo or online.
Hotels I checked into -
Toabo - Garden View Homestay - Nice, neat and clean and comfortable homestay with excellent staff. Food is also good. Tariff - 1000- 2000 depending on the season.
Eskape Inn - I would not recommend. Location is good though. It is right opposite to Kaza Monastery.
Kaza - Hotel Deyzor - By far the best hotel in Kaza. Excellent interiors and awesome food. Every corner has a story to tell. Rooms are also very cosy. Tarrif - Different categories of room varying from 4000 - 7000. Rates may differ as per the season.
