Nice, but first rule about river fishing is the fish will usually be facing up current, so throwing anything down current and reeling up current will come up from behind and Spook fish hiding out of current waiting for bait to be moving down river and it doesn't look natural because most smaller fish will be hugging the bank moving up river especially in deeper water. Being exposed and struggling to get up river means only one thing to predators! Eat me because I'm an idiot! A river rat knows anything cutting current, rocks, trees, a rock or sand deposit (Hump) predators will be on the down current side just waiting for anything edible come tumbling over, that's why the most dominant fish will chase off smaller predators off that spot! Big fish get big by using low amount of energy while taking in energy! Throwing up current in river and working it down river is the key, the exception will be in big deep holes in the river where current isn't as dominant! Sinn Fein Be Cool
this is a good tip! When I trout fish i always work up river because it disturbs less sediment to the fish i want to work, although it’s difficult to do in this river as it’s mud bottom so it’s difficult to walk. I don’t think it matters as much as i’m in a boat and the current often equates to nothing (especially in the areas that hold bigger fish). 9 times out of 10 the fish are holding in breaks in the eel grass or next to fallen timber on the cut banks.

That's why some fish were missed, they didn't see the lure unit it was right on top of them! the lure came from behind and spooked them, Most rivers in the Midwest or in the south are mud bottoms! Fish can only hold place in the current by facing up stream, they don't have a reverse gear! The fish that hit the bait and missed it, same fish same bait cast up river and worked back, being setup below that spot would've seen and heard the bait coming down river and hit it like a caveman! probably hook itself before you even set the hook! River fishing, wading, kayak, canoe, flat bottom or slipping by using an outboard tiller with a 360 range so you can idle down so you move very slowly down river! Your still casting up river and working the bait to you! River fishing isn't lake fishing where setting up isn't as important! Hell even fishing these slow moving bayous here in Houston I still fish up current, unless I'm using a prop bait or spinnerbait only because of the slow moving current! It's not a tip? It's over 50 years of fishing moving water even in the Gulf Coast fishing on moving tides in cuts & passes your throw up current until slack tide! Then it doesn't matter because the fishing is over until the tide moves again! Or you jig a spoon in deep cuts for trout sitting on the bottom! TMI! Hell fish it anyway that makes you happy! The catching is overrated it's the figuring out what will make a fish with a brain the size of a Pea! Hit a lure during the conditions you're fishing in, is the fun part and it's all CPR for me, killing a large fish most likely a breeding female! Doesn't make my dick longer! But taking a picture and releasing it in good condition! Makes my Johnson stand up and bark like Lassie! CMTFU!
