I hope I can help with the caption. Open arms: [Polites] You can relax, my friend [Odysseus] Huh? [Polites] I can tell you're getting nervous So do yourself a service And try to relax my friend [Odysseus] I'm fine, Polites [Polites] Think of all that we have been through We'll survive what we get into I know that you're tired of the war and bloodshed Tell me, is this how we're supposed to live? Look at how you grip your sword, enough said Why should we take when we could give? You could show a person that you trust them When you stop and lower your guard Here we have a chance for some adjustment Give it a try, it's not that hard I'm telling you This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms Whatever we face, we'll be fine if we're leading from the heart No matter the place, we can light up the world Here's how to start Greet the world with open arms Greet the world with open arms [Lotus eaters] Welcome [Odysseus] Stay back [Lotus eaters] Stay back [Polites] My friend, greet the world with open arms [Odysseus] We're only here for food [Odyseus] Six hundred friends are waiting for us to show our faces [Odyseus] Stay back, I'm warning you If we don't get back safely, my men will turn this place into blazes [Polites] See? This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms Whatever we face, we'll be fine if we're leading from the heart No matter the place, we can light up the world Here's how to start Greet the world with open arms Greet the world with open arms [Odysseus] My friend, I wish that I could say that I agree But look at the way this fruit is glowing and filled with glowing seeds It took me a while to notice just what kind of fruit they eat It's a lotus, it controls your mind and never lets you free That's what we'd get with open arms [Polites] Lotus eaters, I'd like to show my friend that kindness is brave Could you tell me where there's other food to eat? [Lotus eaters] The cave [Polites] A cave! You're saying there's a cave where we could feast? And where do we sail to find this food-filled cave? [Lotus eaters] East (That way) [Polites] Thank you! [Lotus eaters] Welcome [Polites] This life is amazing when you greet it with open arms I see in your face, there is so much guilt inside your heart So why not replace it and light up the world Here's how to start: Greet the world with open arms Greet the world with open arms [Odysseus] Greet the world with open arms [Polites] You can relax, my friend I'm not sure about the "Welcome" but that's the most logical I could think of.
I remember when i listened to the Troy saga for the first time, i was bummed there was no reference to Achilles (since he is like one of the protagonists in the Illiad/the prequel) just to realise i was dumb, and my brain didn't register that Neo, was the shortened down form of Neoptolemus... Achilles son, and that the "Neo, avenge your father (achilles), kill the brothers of Hector" was the tiny reference i wanted. I felt so dumb when i realised 💀💀
14:24 what I LOVE about this moment specifically is that as Athena praises Odysseus's virtues, talking about him as a warrior "of the mind" who's supposedly detached from emotional bonds when it comes to making choices, is that the artist decided to draw Odysseus saving Polites's life. Sure Athena could see it as a mere heroic action to take down the creature as fast as possible and limit the number of casualties, but here Polites doesn't even have a weapon. Athena would have never interested herself with the likes of Polites who isn't prepared to face threats, unlike Odysseus who chooses to save him instead of just letting him die to occupy the monster while he kills him (a purely strategic choice). Odysseus saw poor, defenseless Polites, his friend, facing a ruthless animal, and his immediate instinct was to jump in to save him. So in the end, Athena has fooled herself into believing her own version of who Odysseus was at the time. The Odysseus after the war and before his travel to the Underworld will never not yell his name at Polyphemus to honor the memory of his estimeed dead comrades.
Mythologically we know he slept with Circe and cheated on Penelope with Circe. Whether he was coherced or whether after years of fighting he needed some release, he still screwed Circe in the myth with some form of consent. With Calypso, he didn't really have a choice in the matter being stuck with this Witch Goddess for years and only with divine interference was he allowed to leave.
Little Wolf, God Game, Dangerous, Charybdis, Get in the Water, Hold them Down, and Odysseus can’t come fast enough. Every song is 10/10, but those are my most anticipated from the snippets.
I mean they did everything in their power to die and then just hoped that ody would bail their ass out. To his credit it took the god of gods to wipe the crew
@@Smol_Eri Yeah Ody and his crew def have some inconsistencies with morality and who's fault for all the death is.. e.g. Eurolachus said to leave behind a few of the crew who got turned to pigs- to save the what crew they had left, only for Eurolachus to get annoyed that Ody sacrificed a few of the crew to Scylla while saving the crew they had left...
I don't think you understand how much that "43 men left..." vs "558 men..." had me going insane trying to find that 1 extra death. This intermission has saved my soul.
@G973_ I hope I'm not over explaining this. Sorry if I am. We start with 600 men. In Ruthlessness, Posidon says he's left 43 men in Odysseus's command. In the Underworld, there are "558 men, who died under your command" 600-558=42, not 43, so between Ruthlessness and the Underworld, there was one extra death. The intermission pointed out that at Circe's palace, one man was so happy not to be a pig anymore that he got drunk, climbed onto her roof, fell off her roof, and died. Leaving 42 men left and 558 dead.
That means there are males sirens in the agean, since there is no way the odyssey takes place less than 50 years before Alexander the Greats invasion of Greece and the achemenid empire.
@@Blossomy77I meant more that jorge took inspiration from more modern sources since in homers the odyssey oddyseus got the info from circe and did not communicate with the sirens (because they had beeswax in their ears).
@@Blossomy77 to be fair, this odyssey feels far more ‘modern’, like, the timeline could be completely different in epic. Odysseus never cheats, polites goes splat, etc. so gea.
Jorge explained it all in a short preview of an animatic, Odysseus chose a cyclops because its the strongest monster he knows well, he understands its weakness and strengths, Jorge even explained how Odysseus would only give it a club when Circe's monster goes all in
Favorite characters for me: Circe(of course) Hermes Maybe Telemachus(we’ll have to see) Polities(may he rest in eternal peace) and of course, Mother Athena Edit: Y’all I just realized how random and robot sounding this comment is, I was tired when I wrote this I think
Im honestly so exited for the Wisdom Saga. Telemachus with legendary, Calypso with love in paradise, and God games? Not even mentionin little wolf (which might be my favourite song in epic, we’ll see when it releases) I assume we’ll get it either september or october. Edit: DAMN YOU JORGE YOU RUINED MY PREDICTION BY RELEASING IT 2 DAYS BEFORE MINE WAHHH
That would just depend on everything, we already got 2 sagas this year and 2 reworks, if there is a 3rd saga this year, the Epic cast and crew is going wild with saga releases, but I predict the next saga will come out early/mid 2025
@@Bloodstone32 While possible, we’ve had 2 month gaps for the last 4 saga’s. December, February, April, and June. April was on the 26th thus the leaking into another month + Independance day. I think all saga’s will be released by the end of 2025, seeing the release schedule.
Not really in a fight I take my glasses off before a fight because they are more expensive than a broken nose so honestly I can imagine he just took em off and attacked people wearing different armor than him
For real, the prophet is actually right, "Song of past romance" might be referring to Oddyseus' love with Penelope before or even might be the final song "Would you fall in love with me again?"(Or just I'm being crazy) "Sacrifice of man" can be referring to Polites or even Oddyseus' choice to sacrifice 6 men in Scylla. "Portrayal of betrayal" refers to Eurylochus betray Oddyseus and open the wind bag and might be referring to the song Mutiny. "Brother final stand" is the death of Eurylochus as Oddyseus refers to him as his brother in Luck runs out. "Your palace covered in red" cause Oddyseus to think his palace will be covered in red decoration by the suitors to marry Penelope(or just me being crazy and insane thinking that marriage in the past wear red clothes like in my country back in the days) when the palace is actually covered in the blood of the suitors. "Faces of men who have long believed you're dead." is 99.9999999999% referring to the suitors. "I see you on a brink of death." refers to when Zeus sinks the Oddyseus' ship, leaving only Oddyseus alive stranded onto Calypso's island, and she said,"I swore that you were dead." The "I see you draw your final breath." might be referring to Oddyseus' philpsophy of Open arm from Polites "died" and adopted Poseidon's Ruthlessness is mercy upon ourselves philosophy. I think Oddyseus thought that his palace was in red decoration for Penelope's marriage with another man cause they believed he's dead and Oddyseus will die before getting back to his home. That's why he asked "WHO?" Edit: Wait, "I see past and future running by", so if those I said was right, all of the lyrics before "I see your palace covered in red" are all related with both past events and future events, and the after are all future events.
I like to think that the song of past romance is Achilles and Patrocules who dragged out the war for 10 years by refusing to kill Hector, and kicking off the whole problem.
Pretty sure song of past romance is the siren song, sacrifice of man is the 6 men to Scylla, portrayal of betrayal and brothers final stand have to do with mutiny. Everything else sounds about right and the “red” is most definitely blood. I’ve also heard theories where all of his lines correspond with a past and future event because he sees both past and future.
@@EPICIsEpic1the blood is likely referring specifically to the song King, especially with how Odysseus is portrayed as the monster for it, and the rest being ordered chronologically
Full Speed Ahead, I adore Polites' looks. He is so excited, and then he looks at Odyssesus fondly, and when Odyssesus gives "I see fire but there's no smoke" Polites looks so worried like "no, it's okay Odyssesus" followed by the sheer like anger he feels at Eurylochus.
Bro did all this work to combine the clips after the Thunder Saga release just for Wisdom Saga to release at the end of this month. You do an honest to God great work for the Epic community 😭❤️❤️❤️
In my analysis, Odysseus' encounter with the Cyclops can be seen not just as a physical battle but as a manifestation of his deep psychological and emotional fatigue. By this point in his journey, Odysseus has faced numerous trials, and training, each one stripping away layers of his resolve. The weight of his actions-especially the act of killing, which he has become all too accustomed to-has begun to wear on him. The line "just one more life to take" reflects a moment of quiet desperation in Odysseus. It's as if he's bargaining with fate, hoping that this final act of violence will be the last, that after this, he can finally lay down his sword and return to the peace he craves. The flashback to the son of Hector, followed by the Cyclops, symbolizes the relentless cycle of death that Odysseus is caught in-each life he takes reminds him of the innocence lost, whether it's the son of a fallen enemy or the monstrous Cyclops before him. Yet, when the Cyclops begins killing Odysseus' men, this fragile hope shatters. Odysseus' desire to be done with the bloodshed, to return to his wife and son, is cruelly denied. Instead of closure, he is thrust back into the chaos of battle, forced to witness the deaths of his comrades, reminding him that his journey home is far from over. This moment highlights the deep conflict within Odysseus-his longing for peace versus the harsh reality of the world he inhabits, where violence begets violence, and the path to his home is paved with blood and sorrow. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I liked the old animatic u used in "wouldn't you like" better, but it's a personal opinion. Thanks for editing the whole musical and snippets for us!!! it's such a hard work
@@omarsalem1219 I'd have to disagree, I find Hermes flirting with his great-grandson hilarious, and the visuals are great too, like when Hermes says: "She could turn you into an animal" and his head turns into a boar's head is funny and fitting, considering what god Hermes is.
@@WalkieTalkie92756 But, across all animatics for 'Wouldn't' you like' Troy Doherty was definitely the right choice, his voice is so Majestic, also, that is so true😭😂
you know what? i cry every time I hear songs from “Ithaca Saga” because I’m starting to realize that when we can listen those songs this would be the end. I know what I’ll feel when I’ll hear them all. so I just want to leave it here so you can realize one more time how much effort Jorge put into this project and appreciate his work more and more everyday. I’m sure I’ll cry badly when the last song will be released
Kindof just realised that the prophet meant that its no longer him since he has changed so much, kinda thought he was just straight up saying " sry bro ur doomed :/"
Good detail in Open Arms: Odyssesus loses his sword but Polites still has his when the "welcome" happens, and when Odyssesus is holding the sword, Polites' sheath is empty.
At first I didn’t realize but at 1:35:51 Athena turns into a partial owl cause that’s what her symbol is but she also has snake which represents Medusa which Medusa is said to be Athena Priestess that Athena protected by turning Medusa into what Medusa is now( I believe that Medusa is VERY beautiful)
After re-watching this I have now developed a head canon about the cyclops, that they're really emotional and that they are really light drinkers since wine is probably a really rare item they've never really had so because Polyphemus had never had wine let alone a full bottle as he sounded so surprised when Odysseus said wine, so he got drunk and mad so he resorted to try and kill Odysseus and his crew and only sobered up when he was stabbed In the eye so he forgot what happened and thought "nobody" harmed him for no reason
so many mixed emotions and feelings got stored in my heart from this one video...i wish his whole crew could have made it home and that all those sacrifices wouldn't happen...thank you for sharing this video it sure brought me to tears multiple times ❤❤
No longer you plays a really important part, now with the thunder saga out it explains what Tiresias was saying Song of past romance: When he probably first met Penelope and fell in love with her Sacrifice of men: Odysseus sacrificing the six men to Scylla Portrayals of Betrayal: When Eurylochus reveals he opened the wind bag (Or when Perimides stabbed Odysseus) A brother’s final stand: When Odysseus chooses his life over his whole crew I don’t know the rest until the other sagas come out but this is what I got so far 😭
I have a little challenge, Identify everyone's instrument For example everytine Odysseus mentions Penelope and even in her own song, you can hear a violin
Hermes the goat voice is chillin background music for wouldn’t you like and dangerous(even tho it’s not his voice halfway through but might just be me) are amazing and can’t wait for god game
Everytime i see that this updates with a new video i get excited like its christmas morning cuz every update makes it better one way or another, Im so glad i found this on accident on tiktok last year and decided to start following it since
The amount of times I have watched this (and cried in) this animatic is wild! Such a good bit of story (we love our man Jorge's work :D) and thank you for putting it all together! I love the fan-made lyrics at the end too! Can't wait too see more Sagas put together in the future as we all patiently wait for a live musical of this one day.
Yup, they didn't have enough beeswax for him either so he told his crew to tie him tight to the mast of their ship and ignore his please until they passed the Sirens.
I thought something similar! First few times listening I couldn't place what it reminded me of, and I thought "It sounds like Kingdome Hearts!" just the other day. Sounds like Final Fantasy as well, good call!
I hope when all the sagas come out, the animators make all the songs animated, and make like a movie out of it, or all the animators come together to make a Epic movie.❤❤❤❤❤❤😮😮😮😮😮🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
It’s so weird to think abt what he’s faced while he’s literally just human, Polyphemus, Poseidon, cerce, hades(the place not the god), the sirens, ZEUS, caribidis and the suitors. And when he comes back his dog dies as well(saddest part fr)
Well actually, Odysseus might be something of a demigod, think about it, what human could stay up for 9 days? Hermes is Odysseus' great grandfather might be more greats but nevertheless. Odysseus is related to all the gods and goddesses, Athena, Apollo, Hera, Posideon, and yes even Zeus himself. And the others.😮😮😮❤❤❤
“Everything’s changed since Polites” well that….really tore me in on how much impact Polites had on Odysseus and how he acted or how he viewed the world. What more if the Gods he kept meeting were so unreasonable to the point he learned to be a monster FROM them. He turned more cruel in order to survive just as he had been ‘taught’ and never spared those who got in his way. The more I listened to the story, anybody would go crazy when all he wanted to do was get home and everyone around him kept preventing him because he was ‘kind’ to not kill.
Probably just grew attached to it, but kind of like the older versions more. Like, Lotus Eaters are deeper voiced here, and Polythemus feels off too. Or maybe it's my headphones or something?
No I agree with you. The voices sound more like dialogue now which is kind of jarring because the older songs felt better with voices and music matching up.
It’s a shame, because I actually feel bad about it. Greatly appreciate all the work put into this and have been listening to Epic like crazy for the past week or two. But can’t really help taste.
completely agree, i like the vocal performances better in the originals. now there are elements in the revamped versions i like. but overall they sound out of place and disconnected, and a bit lacking in some places of the performances. makes you really hate that company for doing what they did to jay. he probably couldn't make the new songs sound the same as the originals because of legal stuff. makes me feel kinda bad for not liking the new versions as much.
