10:26 - I just found out that The Four-Dimensional Nightmare and Voices of Time are in fact the same collection, published under different titles.

Hey, cheers for the shout out! I hope you find Where Late the Sweet Birds Sang an interesting read, cool you got the same copy as me! Some really interesting books in your haul there, haven't heard of many of them. I got that very same James Blish book, The Quincunx of Time in my last haul; I also love the cover... but no idea what it is about!

Oh man you found Sea Horse in the Sky! You’re in for a treat. I think I told you about that one. Yet to make a video about it though.

Quincunx: an arrangement of five objects with four at the corners of a square or rectangle and the fifth at its center, used for the five on dice or playing cards, and in planting trees. The arrangement of a 5 on a 6-sided Die is in the pattern of a Quincunx.

19:51 I recommend you revisit this bookshop. i was there 7 years ago (I think) and it has a chaotic organisation system.

nice book Haul strangely I've read quite a few of the books last year and this........last year I read Hothouse, Way station and all of Wolfes Book of the New Sun one after the other.....overkill maybe all of which were great and this year I've read .....A Case of Conscience, Behold The Man, Other Days, Other Eyes and Where Late the Sweet Bird Sang....I'd Start With Way Station, Other Days, Other Eyes or Hothouse but I've enjoyed reading all of them.

Other Days, Other Eyes by Bob Shaw (Pan Science Fiction) is a great book and a great find! Lots of interesting books. I found Inherit the Earth to be a fun, scientific mystery with moments of awe inducing revelations. Not a literary classic but a fast, entertaining read. It has a couple sequels which continue in the same vein. Read it in the early 80s. I intend to reread some day. Cover art by Darrell Sweet is all the blurb you need.

I've been keeping my eyes open for it (based on outlaw bookseller's recommendation) and I never see it coming up online or out in the wild ) except occasionally for a silly price. Good score!

Other Days, Other Eyes. . . to be clear.

I have a copy of Other days, Other Eyes to read, having encountered Light of Other Days in Robert Silverberg's Worlds of Wonder. It's a delightful story and I'm hoping for more from Other Eyes. I have encountered Shaw before, having read Orbitsville. He has a very easy style which doesn't get in the way of the story. I have fond memories of Inherit the Earth and its sequels. Also of Voyage from Yesteryear, Thrice Upon a Time and Code of the Lifemaker. A warning though, Hogan moved into the country and went a bit rural, by which I mean fascist and misogynistic. He also wrote an appalling essay against evolution which is a prime example why people writing outside their field can end up with egg on their face.

@@iantoo3503 That's interesting, I didn't know about Hogan's controversial views. I think to enjoy this one will be a necessary case of separating the art from the artist.

I like Philip Jose Farmer too. Everyone has read his Riverworld books but I don't hear people talk about his Dayworld series of books. It is an interesting concept and, imo, a very good series.

Unfortunately I didn't see any Dayworld books when I was out shopping - but that is a series I want to read

Thank You! I was hoping you picked up Davy by Edgar Pangborn when I glimpsed it in your previous video. I read about it, I looked for it, and I forgot about it. Can't wait for your review. Hothouse should jump to the top of your TBR. A fun unique book you will never forget. Nice pickings!

Any opinion on why older science fiction books look so much better?
@bookspin
@bookspin 11 месяцев назад
Good question. Actually I think there are some pretty beautiful and eye-catching modern covers out there, but it's true most lack the charm that is characteristic of the fantastical and outlandish cover art that you typically find on 1970s and 80s SFF prints.

ı was looking this kinda books too found recenlty. ı also like chose your own adventure books besides science fiction and sword of sorcery rpg like books. chose your advenute series old ones same shape of this old sci fi books. more thinner. ı found some star wars book lost star something quality of cover better than recent movie covers. and many star trek books. found moorcok elric series and some forgottan realms books very cheap. the star wars timoy zahn series and forgottan reamls books can get pricey on future bcouse ashoka tv series and movie comig depend of books and baldurs gate 3 game success make forgottan realms books spot even maybe a serie like game of thrones can come. they now on 10 bucks books mostly but have danger to rise like tolkien books.

9 hours and no-one has felt the near autistic compulsion to tell you that a quincunx is a pattern of five objects laid out the way a 5 is on a die, or playing card ? The internet has failed me!

Good to know! I suppose I could have googled it but it's nice for someone to explain it to me personally
