This is the album that got me into Epica and the key to discovering symphonic metal genre. I remeber liking it right away after listening to it the first 5 minutes. I love the entire album and somewhat i felt nostalgic watching your reactions as i kinda felt the same way when i first listened to it. 😊
We suggest checking out the entire Live In Paradiso 2006 concert as that concert plays all songs from Consign to oblivion album (in which part of the Consign to Oblivion tour at that time). Also the live performances of these songs always give me goosebumps. It’s one of the best EPICA concerts ever recorded! You’ll surely enjoy it! 🤘🏼
My first album that I listened of them and makes a biggest fan. I was just 16 and that album introduces me to symphonic metal world and besides that, to the good music. It's a classic. And that's a great reaction. congrats, guys.
I think there are only two other songs without Simone singing. Incentive from Design Your Universe And Human Devastation from The Alchemy Project (which also doesn’t have Mark on it funnily enough)

For me Consign to oblivion is the best piece on album, its also the song that got me into Epica first of all, it was after listening to that song i dived into the entire Epica catalog.. so should i try make a top 6 from album..ok i try.. 1. Consign to oblivion 2. Mother of light (a new age dawns part2) 3. Trois Vierges 4. Solitary ground 5. The last crusade (a new age dawns part1) 6. Another me "in lackéch") im not sure, but its a try..lol

Sancta Terra was the first song that I listened by Epica and at first I didn't like it. I wanted to give them another listen because just because I didn't like one of their songs, that doesn't mean that I won't like any of their other songs. The second song that I listened by them was Another Me and I loved that song. Another Me was the song that got me hooked on them and now Another Me and Sancta Terra are some of my favorites by Epica.
As European fan from the TPA era, Solitary ground was a... bizzarre choice as a single.. as first single also 🤔 good/great song... but... if you ask me "best 8 songs from CTO" Solitary and Quietus will not make it to the chart 😆😆😆
Fun/ curious facts about this album/ reaction: 1. The Last Crusade is not really about Mayan culture but a criticism to Jehovah's Witnesses. 2. Quietus has an alternative version with growls and a guitar intro (The Score version has that intro but no growls) 3. The instrumental part of Mother of Light is also on the Orchestral Medley at the retrospect show. 4. There is an alternative version of Crystal Mountain that has keyboard and Simone singing on it. 5. There is a solo version of the song Trois Vierges on The Score CD. And I rather this version because Simone's version is much more smooth and soft than in the duet with Roy. 6. You mentioned Pirates of the Caribbean, well ,Epica has a cover of the main soundtrack on a live concert called The Classical Conspiracy where they play also Palladium with full choir and orchestra. 7. Linger might be a song about Simone's and Mark's breakup back in those days.
