Hi guys! This was a bit more poppy song from Epica catalogue. 🙂 Please, can you try one of Epica wonderful ballads? "Tides of Time" is from 2009 and is dedicated to Mark's grandma who passed away. The band in their very beginnings used her house basement as a rehearsal studio. There is a very nice fan-made video for this song. I'll drop the link in a separate post below this one.
Guitarist Isaac Delahaye wrote the music, Simone wrote the lyrics. From the 7th album, The Holographic Principle(2016). I'll assume you were talking about the lyrics after the song ended, so here is what Simone said about the song: " I’m singing about self-acceptance and about not concentrating too much on the unimportant things in life. You have to nurture your soul and not focus on being perfect because who defines perfection anyway? A lot of people are obsessed with looks these days but if someone has a good heart, that will always come through. Edge of the blade is another way of saying 'the tip of the iceberg'; it’s very dangerous to get too wrapped up in unimportant things.”
love this song. And video. It is so simple, inexpensive, but so beautiful and dynamic 👍 these glowing pyramids were on tour with them in 2017 on stage, it was cool

Congratulations on 3K! Well-deserved and just one more step to 10. Epic's mix of hard and symphonic adds a lot of dynamic to the music. This is a song where I have struggled to get ahold of the meaning of the lyrics, sometimes I think it is about a betrayal and revenge, other times about fighting for renewal and not giving up. This morning a message from Floor Jansen came out that she is going into treatment against breast cancer 😭😭 I hope they catch this in time, so she and her family, won't have to worry too much😔😔

It feels a bit Ayreon to me. Nothing wrong with that, even though that is not my goto-music... I prefer other Epica songs over this one, but now I'm being picky. I never feel sorry when exploring some Epica and today is no exception.
She also does a lot of the photowork and has final say on all the aesthetics of Epica. Stage design, album design, artwork, music videos, promos etc. She has an eye and ear for beauty.
