They don't have Oscars because their music is not packaged to sell for mainstream audiences. It's art.

You nailed it. And it is better to have them more of a mainstream band. Popularity would kill their unicity and creativity, like what happens to Nightwish, what happened to Within Temptation.

I think there are not too many people who really appreciate Epica, but for those of us who do, their music is a gift and many other types of music pale in comparison. I totally understand you, when you listened to Epica and hear some radio music afterwards, it just feels so primitive.

Finally you did a reaction to this absolute masterpiece like only EPICA can make!! This show "Omega Alive" is from such a high level, they have set the bar for future streaming events! For me EPICA is by far the best symphonic metal band just because of the fact this band is EPIC! Without any doubt EPICA is one of my two absolute favourite bands! EPICA forever and ever!!! 🤘🏻

Epica has been my favorite band since I heard the album design your universe (which is where koh part 1 is on. Part 2 is on the quantum enigma.) Every single album has gotten better and better and their music has helped me tremendously throughout my life when I've been down or in a situation I never thought I'd get out of. They have saved my life many times. I'm from the US and got to see them in a small club and meet them outside and they are just as nice in person as they portray in their music.

This is a beast of a song, but it does not feel like 13 minutes. It keeps one´s eyes, ears and a brain fully occupied. It might be of interest to you that Coen, the keyboardist, collaborated with Saki from Nemophila in the past. He is also responsible for orchestral arrangements and choral arrangements and that can be pretty time-consuming. :-)

There already were a couple of great suggestions with piano in their songs like Tides of Time and Once Upon A Nightmare, but I also want to add to this list another song which is often overlooked I would say. Epica - The Holographic Principle - A Profound Understanding of Reality (+ lyrics) This is another one of their long epics and has a prevalent piano role in a lot of parts. And besides that, it's also an amazingly written song, as usual.

Great reaction to an incredible band 🤘🏻 Being familiar with all their stuff, they still keep me amazed by their talent and epicness, which is just keep growing for almost 20 years. It’s like too much to be from this world, especially when you realize they have about 10 masterpieces in this scale, ballads that will make you cry, countless top-notch badass songs, great covers, orchestral and acoustic versions, insightful lyrics and great stage presence.. enough talent for 20 bands combined. And.. they’re so down-to-earth and generous to their fans. Feeling blessed for discovering them.

This song and video is just incredible, as you say just perfection KoH Part 1 is another song, was on this live stream too but the video is not available for free unfortunately. That's another amazing song from them, you can watch the official lyric video instead. Also there's Part 2 of course, but I don't think there's an official video for that one. My least favorite of the trilogy but still a great song. Coen the keyboardist doesn't do as many solos but he is essential for the overall sound. The songs you can hear him most upfront are probably ballads for piano parts. Try Delirium live at Retrospect for example. PD: For RU-vid I have premium which is like 2 dollars and I don't get bothered by the annoying ads lol

Lovely reaction. This song is one of my favorites by Epica but there is so much good music. IF you want to see him use the wireless keyboard you can checkout Abyss of Time official music video. One of my favorites from the Omega album. Concur with those recommending anything from the retrospect concert, particularly Design your Universe and Chasing the Dragon. Last I have to emphatically agree with Christmas Truce from Sabaton. Piano plays a huge part in the whole song. It is an amazing work of art both musically and visually. Make sure to listen all the way through to the end of the credits for the full emotional impact of the song.

Hi Anastasia, There are a lot of things I can say on your reaction as you brought up so many questions. First of all, the Kingdom of Heaven trilogy. Parts 1 & 3 are for many Epicans the 2 most elaborate and epic songs. Pt1 consists of 5 sections, and pt3 which you just reacted to is 6 sections. KOH pt2 is also a great song, but it has a simpler structure and not the diversity of the other 2. Unfortunately, there is no high quality public live version of KOH pt1. People either pic the official lyric video (my personal public favorite), or a fan made video consisting of smartphone live footage mixed with the sound of the studio album. The best version is of course the live version from Omega Alive, but that version is not public. Now if you look for great piano parts in Epica songs, the IMHO best is unfortunately once again not public. It’s the performance of “Once Upon a Nightmare” from Omega Alive. This version is quite different from the normal version of this song (from the album or from other concerts), and it features Coen playing a grand piano. Now for public display of Coen prominently playing I suggest you take a look at “Serenade of Self Destruction” from the Retrospect show, or “Dancing in a Hurricane” live at the Zenith. In the later, you have no solo, but Coen gets a prominent place in front of the stage most of the song. All in al, for Epica, get “Omega Alive”. It’s worth it! Next topic, Simone’s voice. If you want to see quite a different side of Simone singing, I suggest you take a look at her in Ayreon - This Human Equation from Transitus. There is a video of this song, and Simone’s performance is NICE! (When you see it, you will understand).

Anastasia, if you love Simone's lower register so much, react to their song "Guilty Demeanor". No one reacts to it but it's a beautiful song too (and it's less than 4 minutes). Switching between head voice and chest voice? Yes, vocal coach Mary Zimmer called Simone "master of mixing" because of how she mixes the two voices seamlessly :) Btw, speaking about warm voice... You should definitely hear Simone on their 1st album! She used to sing differently. Some people say it was an immature voice and whatnot, but I will forever be in love with it. And I'm not alone. She simply sounded special, unlike any other singer I've heard. Please, react to some song from that album! Maybe some acoustic song, so you can better focus on Simone's voice if there's no loud metal music. You can try "Epica - Feint (acoustic)" from a live studio session (2004). Simone was just a 19 year old girl. Just make sure you find a HD/4K video! Not the old 240p video with poor sound!

Also: can't remember which part it's in, but there's a nice little piano interlude in one of the Elizabeths (Kamelot). It's in three parts, and since they're all together on youtube anyway, just react to the whole thing (13 minutes) and you won't be disappointed :)

"... silly stupid fucking music..." You have the right of it Anastasia. Modern "pop" music is for the most part a toxic dumpster fire. Garbage. It's what I call artificial talent. Nothing is real. Any speck of talent has been autotuned into artificiality. Yet, there is so much in the way of brilliant, even transcendental music out there. It ranges from the classics to the genius of Tuomas Holopainen, Marc Jansen and Floor Jansen. Tuomas' compositions always reach into your soul. Floor sings your soul right out of your body. EPICA asks the big questions and Simone, like Floor literally becomes what she sings. Who else does this ? No one. Lest we underestimate Simone, she writes a lot of their compositions. Listen to Code of Life to have your mind blown. How lucky are we to live in the same worldline as Floor, the Valkyrie Queen, and Simone, the Archangel of transcendental music. They are all like gods... with instruments.

I stumbled across your channel for the second time for your reaction to Disturbed, previously for your reaction to Angelina Jordan. You really should do another reaction to her. You said in that video that you like songs with screams and growls, you should react to her cover of "I Put a Spell on You" where she channels the original singer Screamin Jay Hawkins. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nwFloCPXzCs.html It's not rock but rather jazz which is her natural genre but I think you will appreciate it anyway. She is only nine and this is in my opinion the besting singing performance by a preteen ever. BTW. the Epica video is an awesome very grand performance. I must admit I am not familiar with modern rock/metal music as it has been my general opinion that the genre declined from a few decades ago. Perhaps there is more decent modern music than I have been presuming.
