EPIK HIGH - '헤픈엔딩 (HAPPEN ENDING)' SUHYUN+LEEHI+MINZY+YOUNHA+JOEWONSUN COMPILATION 

I remember Tablo tweeted about the list of featured artistes in this song. He intentionally chose the female singers starting from the youngest (SuHyun) to the oldest (WonSun) to portray how different-aged people deal with breakups. I think that is just brilliant. He didn't simply choose them because the fans wanted it, but also because he wants to bring various perspectives into the song. Also, I think there could be another way to interpret it. In my opinion, all the different featured singers could symbolize only one person. It shows her experiences in dealing with breakups, from her first heartbreak until presumably the final heartbreak. First, there's SuHyun. The vocal tone she carried was childlike and innocent, suggesting her first realization of the meaning of heartbreak. As she grows older, she became LeeHi, only this time the meaning of heartbreak drowns her into depression as she now understands that heartbreak isn't a one-time thing, thus the low and deep vocal. Then, she changes into Minzy, Now, Minzy carried an attitude in her voice, suggesting the bitterness that breakups have left her with. When she grows older into Younha, the bitterness fades into a sorrowful acceptance, in which Younha nails it with her tearful vocal. Finally, she matured as WonSun, an age where she no longer feels any depression, bitterness or sadness about breakups. She sings it professionally and even has groove in her voice, suggesting that she has now gotten used to heartbreaks and is simply singing it to tell the story of her past, with no hard feelings. That is just another interpretation I came up with. No need to agree with what I wrote. I think all of the female singers did a wonderful job at bringing in their own style. I feel that people are allowed to have their own favorite, and for me it's Younha. When I first listened to the song, I felt that it was such a sad song and Younha managed to bring that sadness I was feeling. She is like the official featured artiste of Epik High. They have collaborated many times, back from the days when Epik High was still with Woollim Ent. Anyway, thank you Epik High for an epik song and album!

Suhyun's version is like of a young love, breaking up makes you tear up, and so sad. Lee Hi's ver is like the kind of break up that makes you numb and hurt. It's like it's the end of the world kind of feeling, like there's no one else. Minzy's ver is like a break up that you are sad about but you are aware that it would just pass by. You'll eventually get over it. It's like "Oh we broke up? what a waste. But I'll forget about it soon" kind of feeling. Younha's ver is like it's okay. I understand. It's totally fine just don't forget me. Joe won sun's ver has the feeling that she's already gone through a lot of breakups. like "It's a pity but I'm used to it. It's always like this" kind of feeling like she's accepted it but she's tired of it always happening to her. there's a bit of a "i don't wan this anymore"

Minzy sounded (and looked!) fantastic, but Lee Hi and Younha both connect with Epik High's music better I think.

I absolutely ADORED JoeWonSuns version! Her smokey voice is made for this song ^_^ and her little bit of awkwardness on stage made her even cuter :3.

Personally I think Lee Hi's and Younha's version are the best. Lee Hi just bring coldness and somewhat emptyness (that hurts people's heart actually) to the song. As for Younha, during all the song, I think she's about to cry... Such a painful performance.

When I first heard this song in 2014, i found Suhyun version was the most attractive to me, as I didnt have any relationship that broke my heart deeply. Now in 2020, after a few bad (and abusive)relationships, I grew to attach to the deep sorrowful voice of Lee Hi and the regretful notes in Younha’s voice. It is interesting how age and experience affecting our perception in the song. Epik High created a true masterpiece

I realized this while watch her performance, so I'm not sure if Hi or Suhyun had it, but Younha didn't, and I didn't get to see if the original singer had a black or colorful mic yet.
