On this video I look at the Epiphone 59 Limited Edition Les Paul. What it comes stock with and what I have done to tweek it for Led Repplica.
This is a great bang for your buck guitar and I was seriously impressed by how well it played after I got it setup.

After watching this video a billion times I realised that I probably should have reviewed the guitar with the Burst bucker 3 in the bridge position, but I wanted to change it for the show we did as I was not that satisfied with the 3 that came stock. I have swapped out the 498T for a Seymour Duncan SH 5 which is quite hot but sounds awesome and is a nice pairing with the Burst bucker 2 in the neck, which is surprisingly loud! I noticed that the pickups on the epiphone sound quite mellow compared to my Gibson, I think this is due to the pots but I may be wrong.. I can't think of anything else that is obvious that would affect the tope end.. Apologies for the Mic issues..

Epiphone makes killer budget-friendly Les Pauls…even better on the used market. Great Page style riffing! Myself, I’ve an older R7 as my one and only Les Paul and it rips.

Thanks Georgi! I will follow up with the new pickup I put in soon. Heaps of ideas, so little time...

I bought the very same guitar changed the Malory caps to orange drop and put on a roller bridge for tuning issues now is perfect

Cool, what differences did you notice with the orange caps? Brighter? Darker? I find the bone nut has made a huge difference to the guitar holding it's tuning too.

@@led_Repplica the orange caps give it a little darker tone

Great playing, both guitars sound great. This is just my opinion but I think the Gibson pickups come closer to the Jimmy Page tone. I have both Seymour Duncan and Gibson pickups love them both

Thanks! I think the high end from the Gibson is related to the pots but I am not sure yet. I will do an experiment where I start with a naked volume pot then gradually introduce other elements. Tone, 50s wiring vs modern wiring, treble bleed etc..

Really nice. I think I'm going to wait it out for Epiphone to swop back to rosewood fretboards. I think these are still Indian Laurel. But I'm thinking, with Fender switching, Epiphone will soon start listening to people who aren't a fan of Indian Laurel. I'd prefer even if they went to Pau Ferro, especially if they could stain it nicely to look more like Rosewood. Because, I have a Vintera Strat with Pau Ferro fretboard, and I like it.

@@compucorder64 thanks for your comment. I’m not familiar with Pau Ferro but the Indian Laurel seems to look the part at least. It seems generally that Gibson is looking to up spec the Epiphones and then do the same to the higher end Gibson models. It’s quite a good upselling tool as I think they have a good market still for customers who are essentially buying nostalgia and are happy paying for it. I personally love this guitar but wish I waited to get the open book headstock.. such a bargain for this particular guitar so can’t complain. Maybe in future.. unless Father Christmas drops a Gibson down my chimney…🤣 ps I don’t have a chimney.

@@led_Repplica There's some good second-hand deals around this year. Things have been selling a little lower in price, the past 6-12 months, on Reverb etc.. Especially if you aren't dead set on a Burst / Standard outfit. I got a really nice Gibson Les Paul Special with P90s for not much over 1000. And it's one of my best sounding guitars. At the same time, I also saw a really nice early 90s Les Paul Studio in Wine Red, in great condition with Rosewood fingerboard go for about 1000. And they are really nice too. Pau Ferro feels quite similar to Rosewood, maybe even smoother. Though it doesn't look quite as nice as Rosewood. It's slightly lighter/browner not as dark red. In playing it's very hard to tell the difference, unlike Laurel which can feel a bit dry and scratchy unless treated.

If you ever get chance, pick up a 1989 MIK Epi Les Paul. Long neck tennon, same headstock, decent woods. They only made them for one year and they are fantastic. Waiting for a set of Burstbucker Pro's to arrive for mine.

@@egnbigdave gosh I had no idea they were producing guitars in Korea all the way back then. My first guitar, a late 90s squire was made in Korea and I still have it! It needs some love but it’s got the goods..

Great playing ! The epiphone pickups have almost a p90 or single coil type tone

@@Stereostupid thank you! I think a lot of it is because of the treble bleeds. Cuts a lot of bottom end when the volume is down but the gain on the amp compensates for this. Not everyone will like them in all situations but I think it’s a must when doing Pagie’s style.
