So I bought a 2022 version of this guitar, and it played amazingly. I thought if this plays this good the Gibson les paul standard must really be great. So I went to trade for a Gibson, and having played a few of the Gibsons, which by the way were great guitars, I came back home with my ebony custom. The Epiphone plays and feels as good as the $2700 Gibson. I love, love, love this guitar.
i got 2, a 2020 alpine with a Larger Diamond on headstock and gibson font (490r/498t) and a 2017 ebony (probuckers will put P-rails or seymor duncan 59's for the coil taps
New headstock old headstock, Ebony fretboard rosewood fretboard, they’re all great guitars. I have a 2012 Alpine white and I love it. Maybe one day I can get a new Ebony to go with it.
First thing first - replace original bridge with wire spring retainer for way better TonePros. Additionally, I changed the original Groover Beans for a better look by self-locking Gotoh Tulips. I also improved the operation of the 3 way toggle switch by replacing the loose aluminum axis of the switch with a tightly fitted steel one.
@@DiogoMPires_ really why ? The les paul custom was $4,899 2 years ago , very expensive , after Initial the Inflation hike last year it went to $5,499, and now they just raised it to $5,799 ! Outside of a pro musician or wealthy person spending that kind of money on a guitar is crazy and many can't afford to spend that kind of money . Sure u can save if u have few bills to pay or none when u are still a teen, or as a adult make a payment plan but thr payments will be like a paying g a phone bill or car payment .
I compared my Epiphone Les Paul Custom with my Gibson Les Paul Chambered, and the tone on the Gibson is way thinner. It may sound good for some kind of music, but I'm into metal, so I prefer the heavy body of the Epiphone for more low mids and bass
I have this exact model and the bridge pickup seems to be extremely mellow, i thought there would be a big bite when it comes to distortion but it is a very passive sound… Have you tried the 50’s standard? It has way more bite and beefier gain on the bridge
Just bought one of these. It’s got a good bit of fret buzz when tuned out of the box at a few different strings/frets. I have done nothing but tune it. No professional set up. But my other guitars don’t have this problem and I haven’t really done set ups on them. Is that normal to have feet buzz out of the box (a few high/low frets when testing with a straight edge). Trying to decide on keeping or returning the guitar. Thanks!
HEY GUYS, why in some videos the lining of this guitar is white and in others gold, I really like the gold, there is a difference in the designation of the guitar or in the year of production ????
I also got one with EMG 81&85 upgrade. Visually very pleasing guitar but if you are used to 25,5" scale guitars (especially with floyd), 24,75" with tom bridge will make you struggle "alot", by mean alot, i really mean alot. If you are a shred guy, think twice, otherwise, great tone, great sustain and man, they say "tuxedo" for this guitar and it clearly deserves this nickname.
Found one of these used and it said Made in China but the quality didnt seem that good, The stickers seemed so cheap as well, also a line where the neck joins the headstock. They wanted £300 and nothing less which seemed quite a bit for me. Was that a fair price?
Daniel Enochs Hi thats the problem they didnt have an amp to test it out. I didnt see any cracks on the neck and the action was ok.the problem with Epiphones the neck cracks and brakes. I have had a few brake over the years. They should just give up and change the headstock if it means good on the long run. I would had got it I saw good re sale value if I didnt like it but sometimes its not worth it.
@@GenosGlory I wouldn't buy it . Especially if they're is no amp to try it on seems kinda sketchy. The new Epiphone les paul customs look amazing I'm saving up for one!
Daniel Enochs Thanks for your reply. Yeah the new Epiphones look and sound amazing. Are they made in USA now? I saw a video with Andertons and they said they were made in USA.
I have concern about type of wood on this. Modern as we can see it on the back of the body is real mahogany. Classic, Road worn etc. has different cheaper mahogany type with zebra wood grain. And we could only guess what they used here because of the paint. All we knew this is slightly cheaper than Modern series despite multiple binding and gold hardware.
@@tylercielen2216 really doubt that weight relief takes any effect on cost. It might be solid maple top, which Modern has and Custom hasn't, otherwise it is really different mahogany type. There's no real info about types of mahogany they use. I can only see zebra grain on cheaper models and gibson type wood grain on Modern.
@@tylercielen2216 They could easily use honduran mahogany, as long as some cheaper gibson models made of mahogany starts their life in chinese factory. I mean faded models, some studios etc.
Yup, that would be more 'period correct', but I think Epis audience is often younger players, and the thinner, flatter neck fits smaller hands better, and the guitar plays faster (i.e., faster) for the modern styles. I'm definitely not a young player, but I don't have large hands, so I prefer the slim-taper necks.
The new 2020 and newer Epiphone Customs, are more in alignment with the classic Customs. This is when they started the "Inspired by Gibson" line. Changed the headstocks to look closer to Gibsons, and a host of other improvements. Prices went up, but so did the components and build quality.
Can you tell me how much is the weight of that guitar? My PRS 35th Anniversary weighs around 3.6 kg, I fear this one is much heavier? Thanks for an answer. I tried the Epiphone standard 50s and that weight (I could not measure) was way too heavy for me. So if you also know the weight of this guitar in comparison to the custom model it would help me a lot. Or is it also possible that the same guitar weighs differently because each one has been built from a different wooden block? Thx for an answer
Gibson and Epi LPs each have between 1.5 and 2.0# weight swings. Find a retailer that's willing to supply weight statistics so you know what you're getting into & can choose.
bought a custom pro, exact same colour, firstly I bought brand new 1 from Canterbury music on reverb but they sent me a custom,(no coil tapping,MIC very high action,it just didn't feel right)🤔, I contacted the company,to which I got this answer to this question, how did you send me the wrong guitar? Company:"it says Custom Pro on his invoice it's definitely a pro & epiphone discontinued Customs,🤔(wtf?) the customs retail more than custom Pro!"again 🤔(wtf?). that's when I lost interest & said it's getting sent back. Here's my theory, before i purchase I asked could he throw in a set of strings,he forgot to put them in with the guitar?? so sent them separate, that made me think he's not got the guitar in store & ordering it in 3rd party & I think he was hoping I knew nothing about guitars and try to Palm me off with a custom, the only difference is the word Pro,& the push & pull knobs.i ended up finding a used mint custom Pro for £50 cheaper on eBay, and I was really lucky, she plays beautiful and literally find it difficult to put down after I pick it up, I absolutely love it,my only quibble is the headstock, I prefer the Kalamazoo shape but that is really not a big deal for first guitar, mine was made in Indonesia & read somewhere if Indonesia,Korea being a slightly better Q.C set up. So I guess This was meant to be,as I ended up with a keeper.lucky as buying online can be a minefield, I was told to go to a store try before buy,but CV19 quashed that idea.
AFAIK the only model with split coil feature from "inspired by Gibson" line is "modern". Of course you can replace the pickups and pots to get the split function....
Do these Epiphone's still have the super thick polyurethane finish? I could care less about any of the parts ill likely upgrade anyway but without a thin nitro or some sort of real lacquer finish I'll still never buy it. Always thought the ESP Edwards E- lp LTC guitars in lacquer from japan were a much much better value, or even some of the higher-end Chibsons on eBay and aliexpress. At least compared to Epiphone.... Seems that Gibson intentionally limits the quality which is otherwise available from asian manufacturers at this price point to not eat into sales of their over priced USA made stuff......
if you want a nitro finish you're either looking at a high end gibson or find someone local to you that could refinish the guitar in nitro. Except if you live in canada of course since nitrocellulose lacquer is impossible to get without a permit.
Does any guitar with polyurethane finish has a thin finish? I understand polyurethane is always thick. On the other hand this one sounds better than chambered Gibsons. I have both Chambered Gibson and Solid Epiphone, and prefer the Epiphone for the feel and sound.
