El Scorcho I have one, a new special tv yellow bound neck vintage tuners p90s. It's a great guitar. Almost as good as the $1500 Gibson version. Definitely a notch up in every way from the previous epi LP Special. I'm playing it a lot more than my American standard Strat these days
Those in Canada with the two p90s are $600ish plus all the tax. Unfortunately Very cool guitar but no longer in the super cheap zone. I was so close to getting one at long and mcquade but it had a huge ding and wasnt set up. Surprise!

My first guitar here was a Les Paul Standard Plus Top Pro at Long and McQuade in April, a beautiful guitar. I now have a Ibanez semi hollow LP style, and I blame you for “making” me buying the Bullet Telecaster from BestBuy with your super powers of suggestion after seeing your video.........hahahaha! I had wanted to get a Telecaster but had my eye on a Harley Benton TE-52 but this came up as a faster and cheaper option. All that to be said the weight of my plus top pro is well over the top compared to the other two! I like the LP style, but I think that comes down to a personal preference. Keep doing what you’re doing, I do like it and get a good laugh!!
I have this exact guitar. Mine has the P90's. It is an incredible guitar for less than 150 bucks. Sounds and plays well. The only issue with mine is a high fret (the 17th) that needs to be leveled. Other than that...no issues. I heard someone mention it on one of the Live Shows at Shane's channel and checked it out. Best inexpensive guitar I own. Thanks for sharing
You missed a great opportunity to play Sweet Child. Glad you have an open mind and are checking these out. The more opinions on these the better. I do believe it's made the manufacturers take notice. Stay safe.
I was wondering when you were going to give in to the dark side. I own a 78 Gibson Deluxe and a Foto Flame MIJ Tele. I can tell no difference in quality, only in the tone and spirit of the guitar. Check out some of the new Epiphone line. Logical next step to me is one of their Junior models. They have a cool one on their website right now. TV yellow on sweetwater. Have fun brother!
As a bolt neck enthusiast (in addition to set neck guitars) I really dig a bolt single cut LP scale guitar. As a constant tinkerer I would replace the mahogany neck with a custom made maple neck with a maple board with block dot inlays. The best of both worlds, bolt neck stability, spank and definition with an LP body style.
And I have one of these Les Paul Special I Limited Edition Worn Pelham Blue guitars and I put some alnico humbuckers and PRS tuners on it and the change was from heaven to earth. For me it is a very good guitar.
I am a proud owner of 4 Epiphone guitars. The Firebird Bass, the Dove Acoustic, the DOT (modeled after a Gibson SG-335) and my Final guitar... the 2020 Epi Les Paul Standard Goldtop. I enjoy playing them very much and there's a certain smugness that comes with being an Epiphone owner. You can look people in the eye and tell them you have a great guitar without spending thousands.
My buddy is a blues player here in Canada one of the greats, and he joked at the satin finish and wood grains and said they look like something from wicker emporiam. Needless to say he ruined them for me, i couldn't unsee it , thanks Garrett lol
That's too bad, they're really solid guitars. Everything works as it should and sounds great. If you know how to change strings and do a proper setup these are amazing for the price.
Special ii the ones with humbucker in the neck are best cut and wired in parallel. The neck pickups are mud.. the P90 special I are good. Removed the covers on the tuners and you can clean lube tighten.. they won't be ab issue afterwards. Special I is just old special II.
I just subscribed yesterday and had a feeling like this is just a fender channel.. Hehe.. Relaxed now.. I really love the way u edit n ur deep dive videos....😄
There is a brand called Eastman, they’re handmade guitars from point to point in China, they have l.p style guitars and other styles for half the price of a Gibson, and they have gotoh hardware and Lollar pickups, the only reason they’re not as expensive as Gibson is because they’re made in China. Darrel Braun reviewed it and he liked it more then the Gibson. I think it would be a better choice if you want an L.p style guitar or even other styles.
My favorite Epiphone! Btw, I’m watching this from the past, 1968 to be exact. Somehow my iPad is picking your video up, despite it not even being invented yet.... Cool, I’m not gonna complain....😉
The brake angle over the nut down to the tuning pegs is way more severe than your beloved fenders, so you can definitely improve the tuning by opening up the slots and reangling them down. Just allow the file to follow the angle of the top of the neck or if your old school ‘peg head’. I have the epi les Paul muse, modded with Seymour Duncan p-rails, Bourns pots, orange caps, and a new jack.
i got one of these for $89 from muscians friend because it had been reboxed like 5 times and abused by some freak that had jacked the action way up on bridge and bent the neck using 13s and put a huge high nut on it. straightened things out and it's credible little axe for my nephew now. those buckers are 12.8 and 11.3 ohm on mine. and i'll say it's the only bolt-on neck i've not had to shim.
That red finish looks great! I've watched a few reviews of these Epiphone Les Paul Special 1 (bolt-on), and they all show up as outstanding for the price, so looking forward to your deep dive.
Pretty decent sound Landon on first play. Welcome to the dark side. The thing is you can get a much much better specced Harley Benton SC Custom paradise flame for not much more. I’d love to see you do a shoot out with that Epiphone some time. 👍👍
I got one of those ... from 2012, still the best setup I ever got on an inexpensive guitar. And the P90s sing. But I think I need to direct you to Yamaha Revstar RS502/502T (dual P90) or RS620 (dual humbuckjer) as really nice Gibby alternatives. Smile achieved. Enjoy your weekend.
How thick is the neck? 50s or 60s? And how are you coping with the stress of playing a 24.75" scale, finally? :) And, staying in tune on a 3x3 guitar is less to do with the tuners, and more to do with the string path. Lubricate the nut, and make sure the strings are stretched.
Neck is not wide like their previous classical-guitar like necks (Special 1) and the frets are really nice. I polished them, cleaned and oiled the fretboard and it's actually surprisingly great to play. Sounds amazing for the kinds of pickups their supposed to be. I adjusted them and they sound great for jazz, blues, classic rock and even metal. The satin finish is great, really resonates and when you play unplug and you can hear and feel it in your chest. The tuneomatic bridge is solid. Tuners work well using the locking method of restringing and lubricating the nut, stretch strings.
My first guitar was an Epiphone les paul 100. I really liked it. I had an Epiphone dot that was one of my favorite guitars I've ever played. I have all squier/fender products currently, but Epiphone is a solid brand.
The best setup guitar I had out of the box was an Epiphone LP special 1 with p 90s. Cheapest guitar I got new and set up the best. Btw the 1 is a wrap around tail piece LP special 2 is the same except with a TOM. I tend to prefer Squier and Fender over Gibson and Epiphone though.
I just bought this exact guitar. The cherry red. I was shocked at the price. But I needed something good but inexpensive for now until I can afford a more professional guitar. But thank you for your review. Maybe I won’t need a more expensive guitar if this one is as good as the reviews I’ve seen on it. Thank you 😊
Never played an Epiphone but have been looking at the Epiphone Les Paul Standard '50s for the last week or so. Probably going to get a Squier Jim Root tele first. There is something about it's simplicity and it has a belly cut that few other telecasters have. Fun to watch vid as always!
I buy and resell these regularly (for profit), and they are solid for entry level. Tuners are really bad though. Unlike sealed ones, you can oil them and it does help. (let the oil drip out before re-installing) The acoustic-electric ones they have are a really good value.
Epiphone Les Paul Hirerarchy: SL - is actually a Melody Maker, not a Les Paul. Two single coils and a pickguard. Special - Like yours, but with p90s Special I - You own it. Wrap around bridge w/two pickups and two knobs Special II - is a Special I with a stoptail bridge Special VE - Vintage Edition, I think? Satin finish Special II's. LP Jr. - is a Special I with single pickup. Special II Plus Top - Special II with decorative veneer Standard - Four knobs, switch on top of body, the standard Gibson-style Les Paul. Then you have modles that are more about neck profile and era-specific specs, like the Les Paul 50's Standard, or the Les Paul 60s Standard being based on 1960's specs. Also have models like the Assault 220 (for metalheads), Les Paul Modern (arch top), Les Paul Studio (80's specs), etc. If you're not already a subscriber to him, you need to follow/watch "Trogly's Guitar Show". He's the most public Gibson/Epiphone expert on RU-vid, and his knowledge about these guitars is unparalleled in the RU-vid community.
Oh my, an Epiphone!! next you'll be buying a PRS, I would suggest the Gibson Les Paul Tribute, somewhat affordable, with satin finish and weight relief no binding. Sweetwater will take care of you. Play awesome.
I'm a big fan of the P90 version of that guitar. The tuning pegs are terrible, but everything else is pretty solid. My drummer has one, and I've gigged with it before!
The Epiphone that's getting a lot of attention right now is the Original Les Paul Special in TV Yellow (P-90s) and it's not that expensive. The one I'm curious about is the Jared James Nichols “Old Glory” Les Paul Custom. Then there's the old standby, the venerable Beatles axe, the Casino.
Just bought this. It's basically the same guitar as my Les Paul SG Special except with a different body shape (I even have the same color and finish). Neck is the same, frets are the same, pickups are the same, knobs, tuners, etc. So I basically have two of the same guitars lol.
Glad you’re stepping into the Epiphone world because I’ve been thinking of doing the same. Been seeing Epiphone Les Pauls on reverb for some pretty decent prices lately. And you’re right on the packaging. Pretty much everyone but Fender does a better job on packaging. You have to buy an American to get that level of packaging from Fender, one of my pet peeves with them
@@landonbailey ahh what a pity! I was obsessed with single coil full body guitars until I discovered some affordable gretsch semi hollow guitars that sound amazing. Anyway great videos, Landon! Keep up the good work!
Lol! Great unboxing. Nice LP (Special?)! The new “Inspired by...” Epiphones even have the Gibson headstock and font and I heard they may have full size pots; not mini Alphas.
I never bought an Epiphone electric but considered the one with P90s. I imagine they are decent guitars for beginners although I imagine they at least need a good setup.
I have one of these. I bought it so my grandkids won't touch my real les Paul's lol. Seriously I have the exact the same one bought it for 75 bucks off of someone a couple years ago. Same color and everything. I will say the sound out of the cheap pickups isn't that bad though
Not a fan of the color or Gibson related guitars, but I would love to try a Flaying V just for the fun, even tho if I want a thick sound Fender has good options too like some Mode tele
P.s. ehhh don't care for this one. I almost boycott Gibson/Epiphone. There's simply no value or "bang for your buck" compared to Fender/Squire or Ibanez or Jackson or ESP/LTD. Especially in the "beginner/budget" guitars. Plus making a cosmetic comparison - Epiphone are severely lack luster. A budget/beginner Epi looks like a budget/beginner where as the other brands I mentioned you can still get a very good looking guitar!
I have one but it's the vintage edition Same price but it's got the stop piece and tune o matic bridge. Nice guitar. Thinner tone than my Epi LP Standard. Because of the thinner body and the less warm tone than my Standard it reminds me of an SG. But without the neck heaviness. With the right strings these are pretty good.
The thinner body is what I love about these LP's... I hate maple capped LP's because they're cumbersome and uncomfortable, plus since they're lacquered it slips right off your lap. This satin finish, thin body is still resonant as f*ck and even when you strum around unplugged, you can feel it in your chest and it rings out loudly. If you know how to string up using the locking method and lubricate the nut, stretch strings, the tuners do their job amazingly well. The pickups on these, when adjusted sound quite nice as well.
@@socialdef3 yeah they work well on mine. I run a sharp pencil through the nut slots followed by vaseline. I also put 10 gauge Daddario acoustic strings on it. That helps and also gives it nice thick tone.
@@davidkastin4240 I will not know until I try a LP! Or etc. Hahah. I would like to think I'm open minded. But damnit so far I love the strats, supers and most anything set up well. I owe Gibson at least a try. As a drummer I know ive picked up many but I do not remember much back then. Usually just gig breaks tinkering with mates gear. Heheh. If i am fender in the end that wouldn't be a bad thing in my opinion! I'm liking my harley benton Fusion T. So...there's that.
Robert Clark Try an LTD EC-256, LP type flame maple with binding on the front, but the mahogany back and sides are thinner with contours like an SG. I’m a Fender guy who wanted a taste of the Gibson world, and this fit the bill perfectly for me.
@@artamussumatra6286 That is one I tried to order and have my eye on!! I had an ltd 103qm and loved it! Got to needing cash at the time and sold. Killer axe! The lemon burst was 276 at guitar center used site but wouldn't let me put it in cart. I was so mad. Few days later it was gone. I'll try that one if I see one again. Thank YOU! I am Not one that buys much into "authentic " at all...Im more about the music than the gear but because today we have so many budget friendly choices it becomes hard to choose. Again thank you. Great idea and choice!!!
@@artamussumatra6286 If you see my channel I have variety of guitars but never yet an LP type. The community has reached out offering ideas and your idea was mentioned by another youtuber Axess2084 😀
I have a 7 string Les Paul & an Explorer by Epiphone and a Tradition Les Paul. I just got an S2 PRS Custom 22 semi-hollow. I also have the Fender Thinline Tele.
