Rich, I keep coming back to this video, years after you made it. This axe is just so damn articulate! Cuts through the mix with absolute ease! The cleans cannot be beat...peroid! Of ALL the guitars you have sampled in the past few years, this one gets the medal!
Thanks for covering clean tones! So many reviews don't. I realize that this probably isn't the gtr you're buying to dial in sweet jazz tones, but I find clean tone really helps to evaluate an instrument.
Epiphone is the real deal. I have an Epiphone LP special 2 that I swapped the ceramic pickups with the Alnico ones they put in higher end instruments and it smokes. All told for like 100 bucks on craigslist and an extra 35 bucks for Epiphone alnico pickups and it seriously sounds better than my Gibson.
Got mine a month ago. It’s WAY better than a $400 guitar should be. I’d say it’s closer to a $600-$850 guitar in price. It looks great and sings. What else could you ask for?
Hi Rich, thank you, excellent work once again. Yep, want one bad, inexpensive P90 snarl and bite is what’s missing from my little collection, but sadly, made of unobtanium here in Australia, I’ll have all pickup bases covered when they eventually land. Thanks again.
I bought one of these from woodwind brasswind at the end of july and I'm still waiting. I'm glad you've done a review on it so I can get even more hyped up
Hey Rich, this is Ted (seattwa), with my new screen name. Anyway, I've been looking at this and the Junior. I've played the Junior, very nice tone. But you may have just made up my mind. Your reviews are very trust worthy. And even though you didn't say much in the way of an opinion, good or no, you didn't say that it sucked. And it sounded damn good!
That is such a cool guitar. I have wanted the Gibson one, but just a bit outside my price and talent zone. Nice playing. Almost had to down vote for the bare feet though. And you gained a subscriber.
As much as I love the glassy sparkle and spank of Fender pickups, there's just something magical about the growl of a P90 that makes them alluring. Great playing, by the way. Best demo of an Epiphone LP Special I've heard yet.
Amazing playing and the tone you got is so sweet and aggressive at the same time! I bought one yesterday because of your review, and it's like this a review and demo should be. Hope you're still enjoy to this day
I have my first P90 guitar on the way, not Epiphone but Harley Benton....and not their Les Paul Special type either (which seems very nice), but their PRS style with P90 PUs (called the CST 24T P90), with a nice Wilkinson trem bridge. Excited to see how they compare with my other Harleys (this will become my 5th). Thanks for a great review and playing Rich!
Love mine just received 2/9 . Test it out of the box . Pull those nasty strings off , clean & oil fret board . Adjust truss , bridge , pickups . BANG !
Great playing and sounds from the Epiphone LP Special, and little post script for the volume knob. I've tried for years to master the technique but finally got a volume pedal. It's a little distracting but I'm getting the hang of it.
...Always enjoy your playing,my Brother,haven't been by in while...my loss!!!...Love all single-coils(true Strat-Cat!...),BUT P-90's are like...A normal single-coil's "Bigger,Older,Meaner" brother!!!...and he's a little "rough" with little-brother's friend's,...if provoked!!!...But ironically,in a GOOD-WAY?!?!...
Rich looks like the guy in the Zombie movies that gets bitten but doesn't tell the rest of the group until it's too late, that been said, excellent review of an excellent guitar!
Picking mine up tomorrow! I tried a buddies and then i tried to buy it and he said no! So tomorrow is the day!!! I had a MIJ Les Paul and the weight was too much! I'am a stone mason and the last thing you want after work is carrying more weight ... All the best from Canada, EH!
Ladys and gentlemans, Rich Bischoff on the guitar ! By the way epiphone new series is wicked ! I've tested new Explorer, Flying V, new Classic, 50s, 60s, new Custom and SG Standard and don't know what to choose ! I was thinking to bay one of Fender Player Stratocaster but this Epiphone made me dizzy : O
Loved this. Gained a subscriber. Would this work well for pop punk do you think? I have small hands so feel neck might be tough but I love the finish so much I’m also looking at a boss katana amp to practice and gig with.
Here’s a scenario for you, Rich. If it was a standoff between this particular Epiphone and the Fender Modern Player Thinline Tele, which one would you choose?
Your reviews are excellent! Could you help me to decide between epi tv special and epi 50's gold top? I'm a bass player and I want one for recording purposes. I have already a strat hss, Thanks. Unfortunately there isn't a store here to try them.
Better than the Gibson in several ways. What a shame, but a plus for players who care about feel and sound more than brand names. I have 2 of these and one Gibson and I pick up one of the Epis every time before bothering with the over-Pleked Gibson!
I know this is a couple years old but I have a question. Is this p90 Epiphone better than your Epiphone Les 339 pro with p90s? I'm trying to decide which to buy. Thanks
Must admit that epi sounds pretty epic. When you get them for review from the shop have they been setup to dome degree or do you do it yourself..... or do you just play it as it comes? My experience when going to a shop is usually quite bad as the guitars , even the high end ones play badly because they go right from the case to the rack and nothing (not even a tune) has been done. Because of this I usually head right to the second hand section where most are pretty good. Thanks for the review and tasteful playing.
I’m curious how this compares to the Gibson Tribute version you demoed earlier. I’m not a brand snob and don’t care about resale value. Just wondering if there’s a clear difference in quality or playability. Love your demos!!
I tried muse at store for being polar yes brighter but it still held quality, my friend and I liked it. Saw Gibson 50 tv special. Sonically seem the same to Epiphones. On the fence about to scoop one of these up. Throw a super distortion p90 innit
Great demo...hey Rich, how noisy are those P90s and how would you compare this special with the 339 P90 guitar? You should rename this channel Rich can cook....because you can really play
Rich I’m constantly staggered by your playing and the sound quality. Great work as always. You seem to have found the inspiration from this guitar that I haven’t been able to. I have one. It’s super well made. Sounds great. But it’s just not working for me 🤷♂️
