TWS (www.tws-windsurf.com) Freemove Technique Series is a series of instructional videos. We teamed up with professional windsurfing coach Colin ¨Whippy¨ Dixon (www.windsurfcoaching.com) to explain you all the details about downwind and upwind moves that will help you put your windsurfing skills on the higher level!
In the first episode we explain the light wind tricks that can make your sailing better. It´s a preparation before learning all the plaining moves and help you to control the sail. With a good technique in light wind manouvers you will get the automatic feeling for moves in the future, so take your sup or big board and practice!

Beginner getting back into the sport after 20 years. This was the instruction I didn’t know i needed! These concepts and skills are so transferable. And this whole skills series has kept me busy in all wind conditions all summer, even when others wait on the beach for the conditions they want. Thanks for the dynamite content!

Excelllent video. People who neglect light wind training really miss a great opportunity for improvements. I come from freestyle kayaking, where "light wind" translates to "flat water"... and making "flat sessions" is long recognized as being crucial.

Last time, i went with a JP slalom board into the sea with no wind ( almost at all). I had to get out swimming. Now I know what to do. Really useful video. Well Done.

Nice work, Colin! I like the explanation of fundamentals. People are lazy to go out in light wind, but this is actually much more fun that just drinking beer on the beach. And very useful, too!

Brilliant! At last I have found good solid info that is really helping me understand the basics. As a beginner I find very few instructional videos pitched at the level I'm at, but this is like a breath of fresh air. Loads of good advice and instruction without feeling overwhelming, well presented, and I feel more confident than ever before. Dry land practice as shown is a great way to get familiar with the moves without dunking yourself every 30 seconds. Best video I've seen, well done!

Colin, I love your instruction and explanations on all your videos. You include all those little pointers that make all the difference that I've not seen on any other tutorials. I only ever used to sail in the strong stuff but I bought an old freestyle board this year off eBay for £150 to do lighter wind tricks with a view to doing more tricks when it's windy and it is a lot of fun. I've learnt helis, upwind 360s, sail 360s and and now I'm going to give the push tack a try. I found the freestyle board is so stable and so easy to turn at speed, I made my first downwind 360 on it. Now, instead of rigging the 6.7 on my bigger FSW, I'll rig a 5.3/5.7 and practice tricks. I'd recommend light wind practice to everyone, even if you're already a good standard. Get yourself a cheap floaty board and go for it!

The wind has been pony this season in the UK so I did what you said. Big board small sail 6 knots and had one of best sessions this year...... Tried a few moves in 12-14 knots on a 7.2m yesterday it was a different story but I was I was progressing and felt much more controlled in my moves, especially flipping the sail into clew first. Thanks for the advice bro.

Excellent stuff. When I first learned I was on a water hole on a golf course which was about 50mX30m. All I could do was figure 8's and circles clock and counterclock wise. My mother and sister had a picnic and I sailed for 3 hours... Later when I became a IWSS Instructor my drills for the people were exactly the same as many of Whippy's. GOOD stuff. More Please!

That'd be pretty col way to pass some time when winds are light. What size board would you recommend for an experienced 175 lb windsurfer who wants to work on these light wind drills.

Hello, I like your videos Do you have a video explaning how to move to backwinded position not moving around the mast but making the sail goes behind you while you maintain your initial feet position. The guys do that before starting freestyle moves Am I clear ? Thank you Guillaume

Question: why don't you want to tack during your helitack? Isn't tacking the whole idea of a helitack?

Hello I'm going to buy a complete setup for 125. It's my first time wind sailing. Is a good setup for learning -Gaastra 3.7 m2 sail With a -mistrial classic board 103 litres? It comes with wishbone, mast, fins ect
@jwisten
@jwisten 4 года назад
shadowofmike1985 Hello. I am by no means an expert on the subject, however I think that what youre going to buy will be hard to start off with. What I would recommend is something like a board of 140-160 litres and a sail with a size of 5,0-6,0 m2. This will help you early on as it will be easier to use and you will get better balance.

maybe a large dog bed from dollar store might work? I will probably try stuffing feed sacks with hay and putting them down on a tarp. But it's true we don't have to worry about rocks too much. Also, do you think the fin is already off the board when he sets it up like this?
@arie1293
@arie1293 3 года назад
KK Icons That would be my guess, no need to have it on and risk damaging it.
