This series is like if “5 machine hacks” and “everything you didn’t know about knex” had a love child, but the love child graduated as a valedictorian

Always great to see your big annual end-of-school-year project! It's also great to see you talking in front of the camera again - it feels like a while since you've done that. I feel like this is a project that's needed to exist for a while but no one ever really got around to making it until now: a chain reaction machine tutorial series that caters not exclusively to people who are doing it for the first time, but also builders who have some experience who have the fundamentals under their belt but are looking to improve their styles in general. Heck, I've been building machines for over a decade and I still learned some new things from this video (like the rubber band stopper and the magnetic container). I also loved the mini machines you built to showcase each fundamental mechanism (my personal favorites were both of the Knex ball dispensers and the metal marbles rolling through the funnel. Even though they were meant to be simple, I still gained a lot of enjoyment from watching them as just machines). You could have just exclusively shown footage from previous projects but the fact that you built new machines dedicated to the topic at hand shows how much you cared about this project. It's also interesting seeing basic chain reaction tricks done with modern community professionalism standards - something I've always wanted to see personally. Everything looks smooth and is built to perfection. I hope that you'll upload a compilation of these mini machines once all of the episodes have been released. The background with all the chain reaction equipment also looks great as well. I am excited to see the future episodes and to have something to look forward to every week for the next month!

I honestly love this video so much. You obviously have a clear passion for making machines, and it was so fun hearing you share and talk about mechanisms you have gathered over the years. Some of these tips I found quite useful, like using a rubber band to keep a ball from sliding (very clever). I know this series is mainly about mechanisms, but I am wondering if you are going to talk about ways to effectively secure things in machines, as most of these tips won't work if they are not firmly held in place. Can't wait for episode 2!

Oh boy, methods of properly securing machine components is an ENTIRE other topic. Sadly I don't discuss it much in this series, but maybe someday.

Very helpful video! I haven’t been building machines in a while but your video surely makes me addicted again!

Quite a few of these can be applied to knex ball machines, specifically the "domino attached to string" at 9:50 example. You've inspired me to create some "models" to keep around for inspiration. Can't wait to get to your knex videos.

Excellent demonstrations! Please can you suggest where i can get the curved ball tracks/orange paths? What should i search for?

Not sure what you're referring to by "orange paths," but I think the curved track you're looking for is this stuff, available from Home Depot: www.homedepot.com/p/Alexandria-Moulding-WM-85-9-16-in-x-1-3-4-in-x-96-in-Pine-Cove-Moulding-0W085-20096C/205902092

This is such an amazing video!! Is it easy to get hot glue off of stuff?
@jackofallspades98
@jackofallspades98 3 года назад
There are only a few materials that hot glue doesn't come off of well. The key is to get low-temp hot glue (oxymoron, I know).
