20 years ago I discovered a lump while checking my pulse on a run. Checked it out and found out I had them, biopsy showed follicular cells in the nodule. They said due to the size it would be good not to wait, but I could if I wanted to, since the cells were benign, but the could turn malignant over time. I was worried about cancer, since my family has a history of thyroid issues, so I had half the thyroid removed. During surgery they examined the other side and found very small nodules and they told me to keep an eye on it. Fast forward to today, I am going to get the other side biopsies done today on 3 of them. I think I'm taking my daughter's sensory squishy ball with me... 😬 Good luck and thank you for sharing! I'm going to finish your video and see what you did before I get my results. 🌞

Getting your thyroid on track is extremely complex. I've had to eliminate lots of things from my diet - even things that are very healthy for people who don't have hypothroidism - like blueberries (night shades), 100% dark chocolate (caffeine), sweet potatoes (starch), red peppers (night shades.) Then there are the usual crappy foods, like sugar & processed foods. Also eliminate any foods you're allergic to. For me, that meant chicken; eggs & chicken bone broth. Raisins have been extremely helpful, as has apple cider vinegar to keep metabolism on track. Carrots help your eyes. Your gut health is critical to stabilizing your thyroid.

OMG this is gold, thank you! I just got back from hospital where they told me they incidentally noticed, while doing a CT scan on my ribs, that my goitre has grown down into my chest further. And I've been living with a 5cm diameter nodule and many other smaller ones for over 10 years. Had problems since my teens, like you. Private endo said to take the whole gland out, public endo said half the gland. I don't want surgery. So info, stories and lived experiences lke this is gold! Thank you!

It may be possible for you to pursue a thermal ablation procedure, but it will probably take multiple procedures as mine did. They will have to treat you in stages and wait for the nodule to move upward. In the near future, I will be doing a video on thyroid arterial embolization, which is another nonsurgical technique now available for very large nodules. I'm sorry you are dealing with that, as I know how bad it can feel to have all that pressure in your throat. I pray that you find the right physician and treatment path for you. You can find out who is a provider of these treatment options at our website saveyourthyroid.org.

I have been experiencing fatigue like you mentioned and all my Thyroid values are normal but borderline low, I also have a couple of nodules on my thyroid which my endocrinologist says they will just “monitor” them and refuses to investigate further. Very frustrating when you don’t feel heard…

Thank you for making these videos. My regular Dr. Felt a small nodule and ordered an ultrasound. It showed multiple suspicious nodules. I was referred to a thyroid surgeon I thought just for a consult. However When I was scheduled for a 1.5 hour appointment which included a ultrasound guided biopsy. I have PTSD from a sexual assault by a massage therapist. I was totally triggered by thinking about this procedure. However I worked with my therapist, a psychologist, and the PA from the surgeons office to develop a plan to undergo the biopsy. I had the biopsy and the results were indeterminate. By then I had done my research! I heeded my research that said don’t jump to removal of thyroid, simply based on i determinate results! There were other options including RFA. But also there was the option of ordering molecular level testing of the biopsy! However the surgeon said he preferred to just remove the thyroid. When I asked about molecular testing he said he didn’t do those tests, he prefers just to remove it! Keep in mind I had NO symptoms! My thyroid blood work was borderline normal but slightly low potassium. He was really pushing me to get surgery. He tried to scare me! He said I could end up on dialysis due to kidney failure, I could get osteoporosis, I am a very large boned woman not a typical candidate for osteoporosis but I am a post menopausal woman in my 60s. So we schedule a bone scan, but I continued to refuse surgery at this point. He was not happy and frustrated with me! I was angry and scared. I asked him about RFA and he said “I don’t like that procedure. It rips up your thyroid and tears it all up. AND he said, if you are worried about pain from removal, that is nothing, but an RFA has a very, very painful recovery! Obviously he was not trained in RFA! I repeated I was refusing surgery at this point. That nothing indicated this was any type of emergency, and at the very least I wanted to do nothing for the next year! I left. About 30 minutes later his nurse called me and said, well since you are refusing surgery, the doctor decided he would order the molecular level testing, and he recommended I start on Vitamin D3. He wanted me to have a repeated needle biopsy in 3 months. I was done with him. He tried to manipulate me, he tried to scare me, and he was not current on alternative treatments! I contacted the nurse later and said I no longer wanted him as my doctor! I asked my regular doctor to refer me to the University of Michigan, which is only 2 hours away and their ent department does RFA! So now I am waiting to schedule my first intake with them. I still have no symptoms, I can’t feel or see any nodule. I believe the biggest it was only 2 cms. I am furious with this surges . Supposedly he is the premiere and most experienced thyroid doctor in our medium sized town of Kalamazoo Michigan! I keep toying with the idea of filing some kind of complaint against him for very unprofessional behavior! But I am going to wait and see what my doctor at the U of M says! Anyway, because of your early videos and some others I was able to stay firm and ask questions and so far s kid surgery and life long medications. I feel fine! Thank you for sharing your story!

Read my comment above! I have had the same experience. What I found out is my doctor wasn’t trained in any of these other options, nor did he refer me to other doctors that were. He just kept saying The surgery is no big deal. Recovery is easy and painless and It was a quick outpatient procedure! What I “heard” was this type of surgery if a cash cow for his practice and is super simple for him to do! Stand firm and research other options!

Jen, I can't believe how similar our stories are! I need to know WHY and it seems like no one cares -- just get it removed and take a pill for the rest of your life. My Endo told me their surgeon "is the best and leaves the smallest scar" They sent me for an ultrasound and a surprise FNA (they told me I needed it for my surgery - I never said I would have the surgery) which I declined. I still have my large goiter and nodules (going on for at least 15 years) and just found your videos. I'm hoping it will give me some information that can reassure me of the right route to take as it is beginning to really bother me. I fear they will mess up and, like yours was, have moved my trachea/esophagus over. I also fear the risk of not being to talk after surgery. I don't trust them. I hate going to my PCP because that is all that is talked about - even when I have other issues. It's sooooo frustrating. Oh and my TSH and other numbers are always great.

Thank you for all the information. I’m in Middle Tennessee and just found out a couple months ago that I have a substantial nodule. PCP sent me for an ultrasound after noticing it in palpitation. Ultrasound found it was fairly large so the PCP sent me to an ENT which scheduled me for a biopsy. Thankfully it came back benign but they will keep an eye on it. PCP says not to worry unless you start having issues swallowing. ENT didn’t think I needed to do iodine or any supplements. I’m going to check my last potassium levels and make sure they are adequate. Had issues after Bariatric surgery in 2010 which puts my absorption of vitamins to a minimum. Which I take allot of. Thanks again and I will continue researching.

I did my FNA today the Radiologist encouraged too me by saying its like those picks one does to the finger and true it was though i could feel them moving the needle to take samples.I have noodle on both sides of my thyroid,one 1/5 and the other 1.2. On the 1.5 they had to do it twice for they said it was not clear. Felt like when you poke a balloon and i saw some blood on the needle.The process was tolerable but it was the idea of putting an injection on my neck that was scary.Coming from Kenya one is traumatized as a child from the many vaccinations

Hello! I'm a few months from my 60th birthday and so glad to have stumbled across your video during my research. Upon hearing of your experience, I got a bit emotional because I have the same exact symptoms with similiar experiences in search for answers. I'm so tired of feeling exhausted, the weight gain, puffy face or the having to prop pillows so I can sleep without feeling like I'm going to suffocate or even picking up my arms over my head. What has happened to this body of mine! I have been feeling lost, alone with not getting solid answers from my doctor, but im determined. It wasnt until I went to see a dermatologist that noticed and questioned my huge lump in my neck and told me to see an ENT Dr right away, as she was jotting down the doctors name. She asked, what has your dr done about this? In short, I told her blood work and ultrasounds, to have surgery, or change my diet. Im also pre diabetic. I now have an appt in two weeks and finally feel, I may get some answers or a solution I'm comfortable with. I have a working thyroid and 3 nodules varying in size from 4 to 5cm since my last ultrasound a month ago. I just knew there were alternative options to surgery, which has been a solid NO for me which would come with taking lifelong medication. I also was not taking a radio active pill that was recommended at one point. Hence, the researching. Thank you so much for sharing your story. It gave me the insight i needed to prepare myself for this upcoming visit.

Then they said i needed to have it removed. I actually went to see the surgeon and got a really bad feeling about it. So using my instincts i walked out and here I am all these years later just fine. I’ve been searching everywhere for information on how to avoid thyroid removal.Now I’m seeing this 14 hours to late.Dr have been watching ,measuring,, biopsies etc since June 2020. I had multiple cyst an nodules also growing in the air way. Mine was not visible noticeable even when I told my family doctor that I was having drainage,coughing and feeling of choking. She massaged my thyroid area an could not feel them. Told me to take some medicine for sinus drainage. Wasn’t until my spine doctor ordered an MRI in 2020 that they noticed 8 nodule at the back of my throat.each ultrasound after the first one they were larger and always more in numbers. The last one I had the tech said that I have so many nodules an cyst that I am no longer counting them

How many people are getting denied by their insurance to cover RFA??? I had an Edno tell me I was NOT a candidate for RFA, but everywhere I can receive treatment has said I am, in fact, the perfect candidate, but the kicker, these places charges out of pocket rates of $5k to $10k.
@ItsmeJenagain
@ItsmeJenagain 10 месяцев назад
It's not always covered by insurance yet, but some drs will help patients with submitting it to your insurance company. Consider the out of pocket costs with a covered surgery. Many patients will pay similar out of pocket for RFA, and won't lose their thyroid, need lifetime meds, or have their health suffer as a result.

I started the process of filing for a 2nd opinion outside of my insurance network. The Endo that told me I wasn't a candidate called me out of the blue a few days after I filed. She now says that based on my tsh being undetected, I am at high risk of having RFA risks like bleeding or some other thing. She said I could have RFA done once my tsh levels stabilize by taking Methimazole. I am still questioning everything she is saying! Never have I found risk factors for treating one hot almost completely solid 3.5 cm nodular by RFA. Not one performing place has asked for lab work. This medicine can totally induce HYPothyroidism and that's what I've been kicking and screaming about NOT wanting! Any advice or experiences with this??
@ItsmeJenagain
@ItsmeJenagain 10 месяцев назад
@GuShiNgPRinCesS it's quite common practice to stabilize TSH before treating with thermal ablation. This is to prevent a thyroid storm. I don't know a connection between low TSH and bleeding risk though. It may be good to get opinions from other providers who offer the procedure so you can have peace of mind.

I think that this video needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Everybody’s symptoms / problems are different. If you have cancerous nodules then they have to come out - biopsies don’t happen on small nodules so it’s unlikely that you would get a cancer diagnosis so anything bigger than 1cm needs to come out.
@ItsmeJenagain
@ItsmeJenagain 9 месяцев назад
My nodules are benign based on testing that is recommended by the American Thyroid Association, which has an accuracy of 96 percent. Surgery is not necessary for nodules based on size alone. In fact, most thyroid surgeries in the US are done on benign nodulea because drs aren't aware of the newly emerging nonsurgical treatment options. This is a paradigm shift in the field of medicine, which takes time. While you are entitled to your opinion about treatment in your own situation, you cannot make a blanket statement about what other patients may need or want. Every patient must do their own research, advocate forthemself, find a dr they trust, and make informed treatment decisions -- especially when they impact the rest of your life. I believe that if you watch other videos on this channel, you will better understand that this content is based on scientific data, is educational in nature, and not opinion based.
