This week on the Combat Base Podcast we sit down with Chhi'mèd Künzang. Chii'mèd is a Combat Base Black belt, ordained practitioner of Vajrayana Buddhism, and long-time martial artist. His jiu-jitsu is influenced by a nidan in Aikido and has experienced fighting in both full-contact stick-fighting and MMA. In addition to pure grappling, he trains in and teaches Taikyoku Araki-ryu, a system whose approach to weaponry is integrally connected to the grappler's body usage. These aspects contribute to his primary practice of Gésar Gar-tak, a system employing yogic practices associated with Ling Gésar, the realized warrior king of Tibetan epic, to develop tactile sensation as the engine powering interactive physicality in a martial context. The result is a versatile hybrid jiu-jitsu blending street, sport, and art according to context.
Chhi'mèd studied computer science at Stanford but holds a degree in creative writing. Having worked as a software engineer for many years, he is currently Chief Scientist at Lurk Lab, a company he co-founded to further the development of Lurk -- the zero-knowledge programming language he created.
In this episode we talk aikido, mma, full contact stick fighting, archery, equestrian martial arts, jiu jitsu, Buddhism, and artificial intelligence.
Fascinating episode with a very sturdy and spiritually developed individual.
Enjoy!
