Also, extremely happy that you're taking a break and coming back with even more info for grip and rigging. This is needed so much in the community, thank you for your help!
@@GripTips Man 100% I've managed to build out a 1 ton 6x10 grip trailer this past year, your videos were for sure a part in it. Thank you for helping my business grow! :)
I am so glad you are returning to grip-focused content. The camera/lens/light space is overcrowded and your best insights have alway been grip related.
Congrats on 100 episodes! I don't believe that RU-vidrs 'need' to output content every week. Put out the best work you can, when you can. You do good work - do it the way you want to. I'll stay subbed, and I think others will too... :)
HAPPY 100 Ep Man!!I All of your content is gold and I always recommend others to take a deep dive in your channel. Although I really love your reviews of lighting, I learn a lot from your grip and rigging tips too. As you said, I wouldn't want you to stop your lighting reviews but I appreciate you going back to basics and sharing what you learned since moving from Detroit to Cali. Congratulations on your continued success Dave! BTW Great Disney/Star Wars intro!
Rob Ellis has a great video with a full breakdown using large tube lights for being used in specific scenarios including the rotating 90 degrees producing a totally different look. Fantastic video to look at.
very good technology as always and super quality ,as a gaffer myself i any now seeing these lights as more of a disco light than film light ,cant say i have ever used a spinning light chaser on set lol , but nice kit for something at some point im sure ,my current rgb tubes will be fine ,great video
Congrats on 100! If I was a 10-year-old boy, I MIGHT like those in my room, but as a photographer, I see NO USE for them at all. Maybe if I was an early 1970's porno director - you know - the ones that were shot in the dark so you couldn't really see anything - they'd be perfect. That helicopter effect over the Mustang worked, because they used REAL lights - not these. Were you thanking - ME??? Episode 101 sounds AWESOME! I was gonna mention that your manufacturer plugs were getting old and tired. Your early videos were so much better! Looking forward to the change of direction. Ask me if you would ever find me up on that scaffold. Heck no, sister! Be cool!
So you might actually find use in doing some long exposures, look up Eric Pare photography on Instagram. He takes a pixelated tube and does some really cool photos with his wife
Hi Dave if where possible could you throw in some ideas or options on how to maybe replicate some of the industry grip setups you will share for the indie/budget filmmaker? Some of the B roll of what’s to come looks impressive but also seemingly out of reach. Looking forward to learning from your experience!
While I totally agree and it’s a better system, what makes me crazy is that the tapped holes are imperial at 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 as a standard, and manufacturers don’t change that unless you ask for it when placing orders. So like speedrail fittings for example, if you order them and don’t specify that you want your rails and fittings to be metric, chances are you’re going to get schedule 40 and at in imperial measurement, know what I mean? But I also think to myself, if people over seas are using professional film equipment they ordered from big manufacturers, they now fall under the imperial system by default. So it’s just kind of a weird thought that essentially, the film industry is imperial.
I have a set of astera tubes and all good , I can't see why I need anything more other than to change makes as these are probably better made than the astera tubes, saying that they are great party lights just not so much for pro film use on sets .could make a good disco or fun light on music videos .
Asteras are great, I’ve only touched them once but I think these can have an upper hand when it comes to daisy chaining the lights together seamlessly. Where with tubes, you’re gonna have gaps. I suppose that might be splitting hairs though
