Why did Siegel and Shuster think Federal Men was their best shot at the big time? Find out here! Plus: I compare Federal Men to Little Orphan Annie, and talk about Texas Bill (or is it Jim?) of the Texas Rangers and Jibby Jones!

I was looking up Jibby Jones during post production when I discovered that Vin Sullivan did not make up that name! Jibby Jones was the main character in a pair of children's books that came out in 1923 and 1924, _Jibby Jones: a Story of Mississippi Adventure for Boys_ and its sequel, _Jibby Jones and the Alligator_. It appears, though, that Vin Sullivan's Jibby Jones is not the same character, so this would be a case of plagiarism!

Thanks! One dollar was a high price for a Junior Federal Man in 1936. I think that was the same cost for membership in the Merry Marvel Marching Society three decades later. Do you know the cost of join Little Orphan Annie's fan club? Drink more Ovaltine! -- Steve

I do not know what the cost of membership was in Radio Annie's Secret Society. I DO know that the "Drink more Ovaltine" line was a twist ending in more ways than one, because the real secret messages were usually clues about what the next episode was going to be about and not "crummy commercials."

DC Comics is making it very hard for you to legally read along with some of these early comic books, but here's two blogs that can help - adventurecomicsblog.blogspot.com/2011_11_06_archive.html and ultraboy8888.wordpress.com/2014/08/09/new-comics-6-federal-men/
