In the Tudors tv series, catherine Howard hands some shoes to the woredrobe servant and tells him to carefully watch and attend her shies.

Assuming when Maria said that Henry spent £4000 a year on clothing this was £4000 in the 1500s and not the equivalente value of today?

That's right! It was a huge sum of money.

@@OntheTudorTrail wow, so according to Alison Weir, monetary values from the 1500s should be x300 to get today's equivalent , so that's £1.2 million a year on clothes. Henry was the man!

Queen Anne Boleyn spent a fortune on clothed and riding equipment and redecorating. Henry debased his coinage. This is why the common people were blaming Anne. Henry wasted a ton of money.
