This was fascinating! Thank you for my roster of new role models! So many incredible women, I can't wait to do a deep dive on some of their movies that I've never seen.

I forget who he was, but someone interviewed on the film courage channel not long ago said that scriptwriters are not REAL writers. And yet others say that writing a movie script is way more difficult than writing a novel. Ed Oneill said in an interview that the thing that makes acting roles good or bad is not the acting, but it's the writing, it's all about the writing.
@TheGoDraft
@TheGoDraft Месяц назад
Ed Oneil is right (and smart for knowing that). BTW, the hardest thing to write is a half-hour comedy pilot, by far.

Hi Andy, thanks for a brilliant & informative clip, I was familiar with many of the writers, but not all & some lovely anecdotes, especially the last one with your wife. Dismayed to hear that the modern female screenwriters seem oblivious of the rich legacy left by their talented & pioneering predecessors!
@TheGoDraft
@TheGoDraft Месяц назад
The lack of knowledge, respect and appreciation of the pioneers of the business is true not just of women, of course, but of most modern screenwriters. Sadly, it's getting worse. I know young professional writers who don't know who Alfred Hitchcock or Billy Wilder were (or hundreds of other great filmmakers from before they were born), much less have seen any of their films.

@@TheGoDraft Truly saddening, I've been a professional writer/journalist/editor since 1982 & have always been keenly aware & appreciative of the rich legacy of the past from the great directors, writers etc.

Sir can you please make a video on how someone can get their script/movie idea to be produced and made into a movie, especially if it’s their first time.
@TheGoDraft
@TheGoDraft Месяц назад
Well, I'll discuss that some, yes, but the specific mechanics of how films get produced is in a constant state of flux -- and never more so that right now. So me telling you how to get a film made wouldn't mean much. Everyone has to figure it out on their own. There is no "system" any more.
@caleebpinkett6450

How different would our industry be if writers owned the copyright for their work??? Wow. If the WGA pushed for that AI would officially take over! 😂 but Musicians fought to own their masters and even with AI Taylor Swift is still thriving. I understand there are differences but it seems wrong that screenplay writers are the only artist/creators who can’t own their work if they want to make living. In order to work they have to sell away their ownership. At minimum studios should have to start licensing screenplays now after all screenplays are IP.
@5Gburn
@5Gburn Месяц назад
I wonder if it works the same way with indie films, or are they more egalitarian? Or...is there a practical reason why the studio keeps the copyright, like being able to release remakes?

Great stuff, great history. Did you ever get around to watching the video, did leigh bracket ghostwrite star wars, a theory? Would like to hear your thoughts on it.
@TheGoDraft
@TheGoDraft Месяц назад
Never heard that she ghostwrote Star Wars.
@corruptduboiscountyindiana5058
@corruptduboiscountyindiana5058 Месяц назад
@@TheGoDraft Yeah, in that video, which lays out things quite well, the author makes the claim that the first star wars idea and characters were taken from leigh brackett's and her husband's work. And that she wrote the first draft or two and got no credit for it. Then just before she died, lucus gave her credit on empire as a good will gesture but really was required to do so by union rules. It's interesting.
@TheGoDraft
@TheGoDraft Месяц назад
@@corruptduboiscountyindiana5058 Possible, I guess. Lucas cribbed a lot of "Star Wars" from the novel "Dune," and the opening with R2D2 and C#PO from Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress."
