"If you like an underdog story, I'm your man."
An active adult in his 40s, Trent Brock thought the limp he'd developed was from a sports injury. Three doctors assured him he'd torn glute muscles.
One nurse couldn't shake the feeling there was something more and ordered an X-ray.
Advanced pelvic cancer was the shocking diagnosis, which was later followed by lung cancer and, eventually pancreatic cancer. Trent's retelling of his roller coaster ride through surgeries, misdiagnoses, infections, hospital stays, addiction to and withdrawal from methadone, and the loneliness of isolation is a case study of resilience and a determination to live or "die trying."
At one point given a 5% chance to live and feeling like even the doctors had given up on him, Trent approached each day like his favorite sport: a football game. "I saw myself as the quarterback and played the game of life by breaking it down into small steps. Sometimes getting to lunch was a win. Sometimes I got sacked. But as long as I kept going, I still got to play the game."
You'll be inspired by Trent's determination. And you'll be rooting for his dream to come true: To walk into a room without crutches or people asking, "What happened to you?"
Trent's life story is worthy of a Hollywood film, and his star shines brightly through his words, his spirit, and his desire to help others facing pain.
