Forgot some stuff in this one... 1. Nail clippings - I typically have my vet or groomer (rare occasion we take her to get groomed) handle the nail clippings - the same sensitivity i talked about in the video extends to their feet, so be careful! 2. Also, borzois can get fur growing between their toes that will need to be trimmed to prevent them from slipping - this fur actually helps provide grip in the snow, but has the opposite effects on hardwood floors and tile. 3. Mats - Typically, if you brush at regular intervals you can avoid mats completely, the only time Esper gets a mat is on the back of her ears, and they are easy to trim off.
Do you trim her toe fur yourself? That's good to know - Charlie has very furry feet. I have the vet do nail trimmings too - since they're like hooves I am too scared to do it myself. :) Is Esper full grown? She is sooo cute - my Charlie boy must be twice her size! He is a big boy!! @@jennaalord I do the toe fur myself! It's really easy, just shorten it enough so it doesn't fold over the pads - really helps with the scrambles. Esper is full grown! she's a petite little lady. We shall see about Ora, haha.
My oldest boy is spotted silver brindle, so about 90% of him is white. Absorbine Bath In a Bottle has been a godsend for spot-cleaning him when he gets especially mucky since he, too, loves hanging out in ponds every change he gets. And it smells like an orange creamcicle! Cowboy Magic's Greenspot Remover is another good one, too.
I use a pin brush every other day but then once a week I use a metal comb to help get some of the stuff a pin brush misses. Then if she has any tangles on her butt feathering I'll use a slicker that has little nibs on the ends of the wires so it's a little better on her skin but it still helps detangle.
She is so relaxed - she's loving it. I have two feathered Salukis and they are very easy to groom but my dream dog is a Borzoi and this has definitely made me feel less scared about grooming!
Just in time! My male puppy just started growing his adult coat and is time for a lot of brushing!! Also I have a super doubt with teeth on borzois (like brushing and teething) and that's something nobody rlly talks about.... I think, love your vids!!
@@esperborzoi We took ours to get groomed today. Partly how I found your video - checking to see how to explain to the groomer what to do as they are so rare here. He spent the rest of the day sulking in the corner, as expected. But yes, sometimes they do seem to prance around aware of how good they look.
We're considering adding a borzoi to our pack in the future and while I have a greyhound and a mini dachshund now, I do have a mild allergy to dogs that sometimes flares up around longer coated breeds. Because of this ive never been able to even consider double coated breeds because they tend to be too much (the undercoat catches a lot of dust which im also allergic to) but borzois have always been on the fence and I've not had any bad reactions while being around them, nor does their fur shed off as you pet them (ive met many a long-coated breed like a golden or a great Pyrenees and those dogs touch you and a cloud follows). While I know every dog and every allergy is different, how hard would you say their hair management is, especially on hardwood? Will we be finding tiny dog fur piles everywhere, every day? Or will brushing be enough to manage the onslaught of fur? Thank you for the videos! I was looking forward to this one.
I have hardwood floors, brush my zoi every other day, and i STILL find some hair piles, and it gets pretty bad during the shedding seasons even with consistent brushing. That said, everyone's threshold for hair "everywhere" is different, and I've never had an issue keeping my house clean - plus, in the grand scheme, magical noodle horse benefits outweigh the fuzz issues.
Yes, cover the couch they sleep on Borzoi have one layer coat silky hair Golden Retrivers shed more hair because it's a 2 layer heavy coat. Brushing helps control the shed in both dogs. My brother vacuums his Goldens daily his house is spotless.
Borzois are remarkably clean, I bathe them on a “when they need it basis” like once every 3 months. Ora is the only borzoi I’ve had that had oilier ears, we used a antiseptic spray and cleaned them weekly - as she got older she required less and less. Teeth are a big deal, I brush them daily ( all 4, some I use a brush others a little silicon finger cover) and encourage chewing. The older two need more maintenance, but if you get into a good routine it’s easy
Great question- usually we are on an "As needed" basis. Borzois are shockingly clean, they almost always smell fresh, I have no idea how that works. On average, about 3-6 times a year varying directly by circumstance, i.e., "oh hi Esper, how was your roll in the horse stalls," or there was one time that Esper thought a puddle was solid (to her credit it was covered in Moss), so we bathed her after she plunged into there.
@@esperborzoi Thanks! That sounds nice. I've been thinking of a borzoi as my next dog for a long time now, so I'm trying to gather as much info as possible. I'm used to shedders, but bathing is no fun.
