I think you should frog the brioche hat, the mistakes are fine, but I couldn’t live with them!! Finish the striped jumper and knit the half and half shawl, the colours are lovely. I would love to see your stash and the kinds of yarn you choose previously, lovely podcast 😀

Guilty secrets? If only you knew how many projects I have that are stashed away! That said, those projects that don’t bring you joy - frog them. As they say, life is too short to waste your time. I have knit 2 half and half wraps and I honestly love them both. Even considering a third. The Linen Quill really does make it special. My only advice would be to knit it without a deadline. It can at points become a bit of a slog, but IMO worth it in the end. Yours is still one of my all time favorite podcasts. Please keep them coming!!

Thanks for the lovely mentions Jane! As most others have said I agree - trust your gut and knit what you love. Those you don’t love or don’t enjoy knitting I’d say it’s time to say goodbye. You’ll find a better use for the yarn - of which you have some absolutely beautiful skeins, you always choose colour so well. And that means it’s a yes to knitting then love Note in the yarn you put aside for it.

Hello from London, just 10 mins away from Loop!😊 Yes please to the yarn stash video! Re the crochet blanket; I bought myself a small folding table from amazon to put those bigger projects over to work on in warm weather. It gets them off your lap and also supports the weight.

I knit two Half and Half Triangle Wraps, (one as a gift ), and I use mine almost every day. In the morning and evening mostly to chase away the chill but knitting it is a long slog! Miles of garter short rows in a lovely linen quill yarn. It took me about 6 months each one. 😊

Hey! Always a pleasure to listen you talking about your projects. It looks like you have your mind half way done. I would frog and repurpose only the brioche project and slowly go through the rest ❤ I used to be a monogamous knitter and only recently started more projects at once and I found working on one project for one week ans another the week after works very well for me (I also have not a lot of knitting time so it is normally around 10 hours each project)

hi Jane! I suggest you organise a frog-party, maybe only with one person who does have some unloved WIPs. Then you frog the items from your knitting friend, and she yours. I find it much easier to frog stuff from others, and when I get back the yarn from my unloved WIPs it feels good to be able to start something new with it. love from 🇨🇭🧶

I've just been to London and visited Loop for the first time, I also went to Beautiful Knitters in Pimlico where the staff were lovely and it was good to see they stocked yarn from Cornwall. Hi, IMO definitely frog the Harlow Hat, it’s full of noticeable mistakes and you won’t enjoy wearing it. Your vibe on the Sian indicates it would be a chore and you’re suspect about the neckline, so skip that as well. The rest of the projects I would finish: the springy green-striped kids wrap will be super cute, the Half&Half is always a great traveling project and I love that color combo, the blanket save for next winter - nothing like being wrapped in a heavy project when the freezing wind is moaning outside. The Tadami Shawl is elegant, and you will get good use from the Strodie on your walks, etc. I have no opinion on the Deep Sea Dickie, not something I would wear. Some kind of color block project came to mind when I saw your beautiful colors of Wool Decanted. Good luck and thanks so much for sharing. I loved seeing you back in the original setting 😊

Hi Jane thanks for another lovely podcast. Thoughts on your Wips, you love the Kate Davies sweater so finish that, frog the brioche hat & repurpose the yarn as you probably won't wear it. Choose 3 Wips you like & frog the rest so they're not all a burden to you & at the back of your mind constantly. 3 pieces are doable & will give you more headspace when new projects come along. I'm doing a major declutter in my house right now - can you tell 😁 Good luck with the KAL i won't be able to join you for this one but will keep a look out for future ones. X

Only going to chime in on the half and half wrap. It is a very large wrap for a small person. I got sucked in by the hype and made one and have only worn it once. Yes, you can use it as a blanket, and yes, if you like garter stitch, it is an easy knit. The linen quill yarn is lovely and I plan to make a tee from the leftovers. However, cant say making or having the half and half brought all the promised wonder! Have fun playing with your projects, whatever you decide.

The color work sweater is gorgeous but I think with the neck not being what you want, I think it’s a lot of work to not like, frog it. Cashmere shawl, repurpose that yarn for something you LOVE. The stripped sweater needs finishing, it’s lovely, you like it and not much left. Hat, frog it! The pullover thing with the panel is complete no go for me lol. The 3 skeins at the end are GORGEOUS! I hope you find a pattern soon, I’d love to see what it becomes. I enjoy your content so much, been here since #1 episode!

Socks...block they'll be fine. Black and white sweater...frog, the neck is very wide on the model and I don't think you'll be happy when it's finished. Hat...you could finish and see whatyouu think (it's only yarn and so close to being finished, if you're not happy you can always rip and repurpose. Stripey top...maybe finish for the shop. Crochet blanket...finish quick before the weather cheers up, the colours are lovely! The shawl I beautiful, I think you will love it when it's done! The things you make are beautiful! The brown stripey top is almost done, I'd love to see you wearing it! The Sea Dickie would be good as a sample for the shop, it looks like a fast knit. Have a look at Romi Hill's shawl patterns, you might find one there for your Yarn Decanted, she has done a couple of books of small shawls.

I have at least a dozen WIP's. Think we all do. You start off keen, and then something distracts, and you've cadt on something else. I started a beautiful mossaic crochet blanket in August 2020, its about a third done but I haven't touched it for 3 years. Every time I see it I promise to do more. What I have decided is to not knit for family for at least the next year. It is time to focus on me, and what patterns I will enjoy. Hope you made a decision and saw some more progress on your WIP's.

The Harlow hat that I made gets no wear because brioche makes for an excessively stretchy fabric that IMHO doesn’t work well in a hat. If you don’t love it, I’d just frog it. The Love Note in that color would be gorgeous on you. It makes me want the same. Sian pullover projects do look really lovely and you can always bring in the neckline as others have done. 3 color versions look particularly nice. I like the inspiration for the pattern. That said, knit what brings you joy. If it isn’t bringing you joy, repurpose the yarn. Ill-fitting socks will never get worn. If you don’t know someone knit worthy with slightly smaller feet to be sure they will get use, I would frog back to enlarge the heel flap and gusset to be sure it fits you well. Blocking mid-project is also an option. I don’t tend to finish things that I am not confident about… Pattern is lovely. Baby wrap so adorable. I think I need to make one now. Maybe resume that blanket some other winter when you find it most enjoyable. Working on Ito scarf in summer sounds lovely. I look forward to seeing you in your Kate Davies’ sweater. I love your Purl Soho yarn but don’t get the craze for the half triangle wrap. I love short rows for improving the fit of a sweater but it doesn’t sound awesome to use them throughout an entire shawl. Loved seeing you in your home and hearing a bit more about how you came to open a shop. Does undesignated yarn count as WIPS? If so, I have a LOT more than I thought! 😊. Enjoyed your podcast, as always, so thank you for creating your content!

Thanks Heidi The Sian is a goner I am afraid I just couldn't bring myself to complete it and will repurpose the yarn. The socks are definitely going to be reworked as I like the pattern too much to abandon it though 😊😊
@juliamorrisey5541
@juliamorrisey5541 4 месяца назад
I know that WIPS can pile up on us, and owning a yarn shop and knitting samples can add to that collection. However, I think you need to knit what you love in order to keep the joy of knitting in the process. Personally, I would frog the Sian, as it is not bringing you joy. Since you are almost done with the Harlow, I would finish it and make it a shop sample for the yarn. The blue yarn is beautiful so I hope you knit something you will enjoy wearing. The wrap/scarf seems like something you could easily work on in the shop when things are a little slow and you have a few minutes to knit. I have seen a lot of knitters that just pick one WIP a month to focus on, while also working through a current project or two. They get the satisfaction of finishing the older project while also working on a currently joyful make. Just my 2 cents.

Great catching up with you! Another idea for the Linen Quill is their Daily Pullover pattern! Otherwise, I would definitely keep the socks (if you are able to get them on, at least) and maybe frog the black and white sweater you're not enjoying? Also, maybe the harlow hat too since you're not enjoying brioche and there are some mistakes (but you are so close too so I could totally see just pushing through and letting it be your "i learned brioche" project) 😅 the child wrap is also looking really adorable!

Sian sweater: Frog it. Even if the neckline turns out as in the pattern picture, would you love wearing it? I know that I'd feel awkward, although it looks fantastic on the model. Harlow hat: frog it too. The mistakes would bother me too, and since it was your first two coloured brioche, you could just regard it as a swatch to practise the pattern. 😊 And the other WIPs : I don't know. They’re all so beautiful! The hat is obviously not bringing joy, so probably a frog…. But the Sian is beautiful! I would encourage you to continue - I had that feeling about the neck being too big when I was knitting mine but the rib sorted it out and it’s been one of my favourite knits to wear over this winter because it’s such a relaxed fit. The texture on the colourwork is worth it - once I’d finished and got onto the stocking stitch I started to really appreciate it! Go for it!

My verdicts: Loppe socks - frog and start again knitting inside out to stretch the floats a bit; Sian - frog it - that neckline will drive you mad!; Harlow - you won't wear it with the mistakes - it served its purpose in trying out brioche - so frog it and re-purpose the yarn; the Love Note Cirrus yarn - park it until you feel the desire to knit something with it; Olive's wrap is very sweet and you should finish it as a shop sample; put the blanket aside and then pick it up again in the Autumn; definitely finish the cashmere scarf/shawl; the possum yarn would make a lovely scarf or cowl and you should use it - when are you ever going to get any more of it?i; you should definitely finish the Strodie (but if it were mine I'd change the neckline (too high for me)); I would re-purpose the Dickie yarn - there are other dickie patterns that would be more practical (what's the point of all that pattern and texture if it is only going to be worn under a coat?); I made a Half & Half wrap and it's enormous and never been worn - I'm thinking of frogging it; can't help you with the Wool Decanted yarn but I'm sure others will recommend patterns to you. I hope that's helpful - you did ask! Thanks for another lovely podcast.

Thank you Jane for another lovely podcast. Here goes my thoughts on your wips, frog the socks, jumper and hat. Finish the baby jacket, the crochet blanket, Kate Davies jumper and the shawl. I would make a cowl with the merino and possum yarn. I wouldn't make a Lovenote with that yarn, because if you really wanted to do it you would have done so by now. Yes to the dickie and what about a Helen Stewart shawl with the aubergine, green and raspberry yarn. As for the other yarns, use it for something else 😊. I did some serious frogging of my wips last year as they had gotten out of hand, it's really liberating and it means that you can start NEW wips 😊

Hello dear Jane - decisions, decisions, decisions!!! Here’s a few thoughts of mine 😊 if your colour work socks feel a tad tight why don’t you undo them and make them striped instead - then you still get the lovely colour combo 😊 I think I’d frog the Sian Sweater - not sure if I’m old-fashioned or what but if I’m wearing a colour work jumper in Winter (which aren’t as cold here in Tasmania as yours are) I want it up round my neck and snug not hanging off my shoulders - brrrrrr! Maybe Kate Davies has a better alternative? I agree with getting rid of the Brioche hat - I know lots of people love this style of knitting but it never did float my boat 😂 the Zealana yarn looks lovely and they stock it at my LYS here in Hobart - there’s a lovely hat called the Straemsoond Hat by Donna Smith that I think would really suit those colours. I’m not sure if you have any fingering weight yarn just lolling around but a couple patterns I have on my list to do are by a lady named Gretha Mensen - The Sand Bubbles Shawl and Into the Waves Cowl - they sound just perfect for your seaside location. I hope my ramblings have helped you Jane - enjoy making your decisions 😊

Not sure about the Sian sweater, maybe it would come together more when blocked? but your heart doesn't seem in it so it may take a while to finish. maybe start again in a different yarn? the hat is cute and you are so far along but you are really not showing the love for it so maybe repurpose the yarn for a hat you would enjoy to wear? I have never done Brioche and have no intention to.....LOL Love that color of wool for the love note.....it would look lovely on you no matter what sweater you choose. did a half and half and have another on the needles. Love it. and yes it takes a long time so it's for when you want something repitious. I am not going to make another because of the shape but I LOVE the yarn so I'm going to make a rectangle wrap and also I'd like to do a sweather or tee with the yarn.

I’ve been through all my WIPs recently and decided which ones to keep. I don’t need any more yarn! Which is sad as I like buying yarn. I would ditch the socks, wide necked colour work sweater and the tabard. I love the Kate Davis sweater and you have knitted so much of it. I’ve knitted two half and half triangle wraps. One in John Arbon Devonia and one in Linen Quill. They are a joy to knit when you don’t want to think but need to keep your hands busy. I use them as lap blankets not wraps. Life is too short not to knit on what brings you joy. ❤

Thank you. It’s quite cathartic going through your WIPs isn’t it! The tabard is having a marmite reaction on here which is interesting. I am still not sure about that so will put it aside for another review when I have completed some of the WIPs ☺️

I would first block the sock. If it doesn't loosen up, I would frog it back to the spot where it is too narrow. If that's the foot part of the sock, I would frog it back to the toe and add stitches and restart. I would frog the brioche, mainly because you are ambivalent about a hat that is nearly finished, and if you were to wear it, you would only see the few mistakes you made. The wide scoop sweater is worth continuing only if you wear wide neck tops; it looks like the pattern, but I find that I'm never happy with oversized, loose-fitting necklines. I think you need to have substantial shoulders to pull off that look. The main color of the tabard is a little harsh against your complexion. If your winter coat is dark, putting a pop of color in the neck might be a better idea. The light peach that you held up later with the dark blue was a lovely color on you. In a way, I think having all those lovely knitting bags allows you to stockpile projects that are put aside and forgotten...

Hi Jane 😊 it’s cold, rainy and overcast in Brisbane today, perfect knitting weather! A couple of years ago I made the Rock Salt Gansey by Erin Mae. I was sold on the pattern without thinking through the flat pieced seaming and the wide neck opening. It took ages and the neckline was huge but I still really liked the rest of the sweater. A year later after not wearing it I went back and picked up stitches, decrease over a few rows in stockinette then rib a crew neck which was much better. If you love the sweater already I would try fixing the neck issue now before you go further, a fold down, or just less stitches maybe and a few rows to bring it in with some decreases in rib, whatever you think might work for you and then make a decision. I think the brioche hat is a different story though. Maybe you’re a completer and feel compelled to get to the end, but it really seems like you’re fed up with both the style and knowing there are a couple of small errors, so it won’t be worn or gifted, definitely frog and enjoy the yarn elsewhere! I call frogged projects my refund stash, which is fairly rare, and I get all the thrill of a new cast on again (I’ve got a very similar colour combo in a 4ply yarn waiting to be made into the Outfoxed Mitts by Erica Heusser)I haven’t tried brioche yet but it does seem to polarise people doesn’t it?!

Thank you so much for your feedback on my dilemmas. I think the Sian has to go I am afraid. I can repurpose that yarn for a sweater I love. I am a completer so that’s my challenge really but I also know those mistakes are gonna bother me so it will have to come out too I fear 🥹

sorry to be late with my comments but just caught up with this episode. Thanks for adding the photos or pictures when you talk about the garments - I was one of the people who complained. Frog the socks if they don't fit. Frog the Sian sweater. Frog the Harlow hat. You're not happy with the mistakes so probably won't wear the hat even if you finish. Reuse the yarn for the Giselle hat by Camilla Hoier Adamsen. Love Note - knit it, its a lovely colour yarn which suits your colouring. Blanket - continue, its great. Baby wrap - colours not to my taste for a baby -frog. Tadami shawl - keep it. Strodie sweater - finish it. Tabard - its up to you...I'm not a fan

Keep the blanket and the stripey sweater, both lovely, I hope you can also make those socks fit you as they are beautiful. A Lovenote in that blue yarn will be stunning but you could happily frog/cancel the rest, the baby wrap looks like such lot of trouble for something that will be worn for such a short time! A very enjoyable vlog, makes me feel less guilty about my whips!!! A tour of your yarn stash would be good too.

Great video today Jane, I think showing the patterns like you did worked really well. I have lots of WIPs too, sometimes it gets too overwhelming and I have to review them all like you did today. And let's not talk about stash! When we moved house 5 years ago there were many comments from the family on the volume of yarn we had to pack. So my feedback is Socks - finish them(really interesting pattern, they look lovely); Sian - rip (if you're not feeling it now it will just be a slog); hat - rip (I'm all for embracing mistakes but those would annoy me and I loath brioche too); love note - do it (such a pretty colour and as you said the other is stuck in the shop); Olive wrap - finish it (easy knitting for when chatting/watching TV, great colour choice); blanket - finish it (work on it until its too warm then put it aside until the cold weather comes again, there's no rush); Shawl - rip (its been on the needles too long, find a pattern you love for that beautiful yarn); Strodie - finish it (its almost done and will look great on you); Dickie do it (very interesting pattern, I'm a process knitter so it appeals to me); Half & half - nope (I know lots of people who have knit or are still knitting this, its such a slog they lose the will to live 3/4 way through!); Wool decanted - Juneau, Masgot, colour affection, cameo. I was working on my Ember sweater while watching, a project that I put aside for quite a while as when I finished the body it was too short and I needed to design the colour work to extend it. Im so glad that I finally did that and can now push through to the end and hopefully have a wearable sweater.

I lost the long feedback that I wrote out to the tech hog...but in short. The linen quill is one of my most treasured possessions. It took me 5 months, of daily meditations, and a bit disappointed that it doesn't stay on the shoulders, but it's used almost daily as a lap blanket. I love your color choices. Your Blanket is a treasure. I'd def. finish that!!! even if you just commit to doing a few rows a day... I have a Sian a bit more done than yours. I like the stitches, hate the neckline, procrastinating about frogging only because it's "hard" to undo. I will repurpose that yarn. Otherwise, The Strodie seems one you have enthusiasm for...and you don't have that much enthusiasm for other things....I have about a dozen wips to give the "enthusiasm test" a go too!!

Jumper with huge neck, frog it. Harlow brioche hat, if you can fix, keep and finish, or frog it if taking too long.Love note sweater, knit that when other WIPS are done. Instinctively I'd re knit the socks to get a better fit as they're really lovely, not do the black & white colour work jumper or the brioche hat - frog both and re purpose the yarn, keep the Cashmere scarf going as a long term project, finish the stripey jumper which, again, looks lovely, use that blue yarn for something else - a future project maybe, use the Possom yarn for some cosy house socks (if there's enough?) , finish the neck warmer/tabbard - very useful for Cornish breezes! 😄 , and make an A-symetric shawl with the trilogy of yarns, going as far size wise as the yarns allow. Another lovely podcast thank you! 🤗 I'm listening in Queensland, Australia right now while Cyclone Megan does her thing outside 😄

As a general rule, I would frog anything which doesn’t bring you joy. And you have a good amount of WIPs - all different projects with different yarn, techniques and needle size 🥰 I think you should frog and restart your socks. They’re absolutely gorgeous and they seem to bring you joy. I’ve knitted socks that were too tight and I generally don’t wear them, which is a shame. I would personally frog the jumper, as you seem unsure about it. The neckline does seem very wide to me too. Maybe it’s meant to give more of a slouchy and laid back look? I love, love your cardigan! It is such a nice fit on you and the colour really complements your skin tone. Also, your pronunciation of the Danish yarn is pretty spot on - so you should definitely give yourself a lot of credit. As a half Dane, I know that the Danish language is tough to read and pronounce, and I even struggle with it at times.

Socks - finish / Sian sweater - frog / Harlow hat - finish & give away / Love note - gorgeous colour on you & given you don’t wear the pink one, go for it! / Olive’s wrap - ask Fran to finish it? / crochet blanket - definitely finish but there’s no rush / Tadami shawl - frog - it’s sat there too long unloved / Possom yarn - Sophie scarf or small neck bandana / Kate Davies sweater - leave it out and definitely finish it! / Tabard - like you, on the fence - think I’d probably repurpose the yarn / Half & half wrap - not knitted it but it looks good & you won’t know until you try it yourself / Ask Lisa & Linda for their recommendations. Hi Jane, Yes I remember your living room. I was wondering if you would ever do your videos from there again, and now you have. My suggestions are: Rip out the Sian sweater, I think the neckline is too big . If you finish the hat, will you wear it with the mistakes, if not rip it out. I love that color blue for the Love Notes sweater, what is the yarn and color? I think it will look good on you, and me too:) Finish the Olive wrap, and the blanket, and the Strodie. As far as the Deep Sea Dickie, I think if you really wanted to knit it, you would have finished it by now. Love your show!!!! Sally

Loved this video - thank you. Yes I have a good few WiPs - try to keep in single figures…. But they are listed on ravelry so I am constantly aware how many there are! Also have 49 projects with yarn awaiting up in the wool room - all labelled and ready to go. Rarely buy yarn without a project in mind. Comments on yours. Socks - definitely don’t continue if too tight. I’ve made that mistake before. Sian - frog. Don’t sense much enthusiasm from you. Harlow hat is a lovely pattern, but I don’t think you’ll live with those mistakes, so, frog. Love Note, Olive’s Wrap and the blanket I’d continue with. All are lovely - or will be. The Wrap - you seem more enthused with the yarn than the pattern (as am I) so I’d repurpose the yarn. The Strodie is stunning -you must finish! I’m not keen on the tabard (but that’s only a personal opinion obviously) but I love the colours you’ve chosen. I don’t get the hype about the purl soho wrap either, so I wouldn’t bother. Lots of knitting for quite a low impact finished object I feel. And how about a linen stitch scarf with the three yarns shown at the end. Have a look at the Spencer scarf by Jane Ellison. I’ve done it four times as people kept requesting it and brothers-in-law are hard to find presents for! Sorry for such a lengthy comment, but you did ask…..!

In general I find that if a WIP sits for more than a month … it has a bad future. I tend to have two or three projects going at a time . Anything that got put aside for those three I must not have been enjoying or happy with … and life is WAY too short , and knitting is not my “job” it is a hobby ( something I should enjoy doing ). So then it is just a matter of whether or not to save the yarn . And that I find, is usually a pretty easy decision. So ultimately the yarn may end up “lingering “ around … but not the project. Play the video for yourself later and you will see what you should keep or not keep rather than easily . The sweater you are wearing is absolutely gorgeous… perfect match of yarn to pattern!

Hi Jane, block the sock and check if it fits. Carry on as they are lovely if they fir. Sian is too wide a neckline so frog. Harlow hat, frog ad you are not enjoying the process and don’t like it either. Baby Cardi, finish its lovely. Cosy comfort blanket, you have done so much of it. Could you do 30 mins a day perhaps? Set yourself a daily target and it will be soon finished. The shawl is hardly started so rip it out and you will feel better for having one wip less. Reuse the beautiful yarn when you find a new pattern that takes your interest. After this long it obviously hasn’t captured you. Finish Kate Davies sweater as it’s nearly there anyway. Just wondering if you keep a record of your wipe? Something you said when showing the sweater made me think you are not remembering what you have. I would make a list so you are aware of what you have and recap regularly so you review.

I have tightish socks and don’t wear them - frog Sian sweater, no to that neckline - frog I hate brioche too but you’re almost there! - save Love Note is lovely and an enjoyable knit but I’m sure someone will buy you prewound yarn - have a discount basket. Olive’s Wrap is a good way on and for the shop - save Cosy Comfort blanket is lovely, suits the back of your sofa - save Tadami looks monotonous to me 😴 - frog Love Kate Davies but Strodie neckline is very high, long way along again - save Deep Sea Dickie is a useful piece, good shop sample too - save Half and half wrap, meh - use for something else. Good luck! 😁

Finish the brioche hat. Wear it to the beach on a windy day. No-one is going to look at your hat with a microscope. The NZ possum yarn is lovely and warm. A Sofie scarf. Knit the blanket at night in front of the TV. Finish the sampler for the shop. Rather than knit complete garments for the shop just do 20cm square swatches. Buying yarn, there are never swatches available to see what its like, knitted up. The colourwork socks, frog back and go up one needle size. Dont give up. Otherwise you will never get through your own stash. Forget the slip over or incorporate the pattern into to a jumper. Can you ho live in the morning. Otherwise its 3am here in the southern hemisphere.

Thank you for such great comments. I do knit yarn squares but the reality is that samples sell yarn 🙄 undecided on the hat but likely it will get 🐸 along with the Sian sweater 🤔 socks I am going to redo in some way because I love the design 🥰

If they’ve been languishing on your needles in the closet and you are not enthused by your explanations, it’s time to get rid of them. Donate, frog, or bin but don’t fret about them anymore. Move on and find something you will love to work on.❤

There looks to be a 'ladder' going up the side of the sock. How is that happening? Ive seen this before and Im thinking its where 2 needles always land.

Yes there is as it is so long ago that I started knitting them and I hadn’t mastered magic loop properly then. All sorted with the multiple socks I have knitted since. I am going to pull these back and redo them ☺️
