In this episode Brad replaces the lower door pillar in his 1956 Volkswagen Beetle. Watch as he shapes, forms, aligns, welds, and grinds the new metal so you'd never know it didn't come like that from the factory, with lots of helpful tips and tricks along the way.

Thank you so much for this video. I have a '58 beetle with a badly rusted passenger and driver door pillar and your explanations and demonstrations were top notch. Keep them up mate from Australia.

Very informative. I feel more confident about tackling my 64' galaxie 4 door family mover project after watching your vids. Keep me coming. From a fellow Canuck. :)

Very good video. I like the different camera angles. Looks like a lot of editing to piece the different frames together. Thanks learned a lot!

Brad, I believe the inner panel is intentionally only spot welded in one place. This is only to keep the two pieces together to show how they align with each other. The pieces need to be separated in order to weld them in. After both pieces are installed separately then they can be welded together (typically holes will need to be drilled in the front piece to accommodate spot welds unless you can reach it from underneath with the heater channel removed.)

Without the door and hinges in place , I can't tack weld. Everything looks aligned, but cars have shapes and angles that tricks our eyes.

I am getting ready to do this tonight as well and had a quick question. At the end when you are finished, I see that the outside lip on the replacement panel extends a little past the rest of the stock pillar channel. How did you make that fit? I mocked mine up and I have the same issue. Thanks and thanks for posting this!

excellent videos keep em coming. you walk through step by step, edit the crap and only give us what we need. If only everyone who makes 'how to' videos could take a lesson from you youtube would be a much better place.

Good video. Agree with @Dale Worthington below. I'm doing a series on a '67 F100 Pickup and wanted to see someone else doing similar body work. Nice job. Not a VW guy, what is the coil thing inside the door jam for again?

+Larkhill21 He said it was a "heat tube which conducts heat to the body of the car". For what?

Brad you are a gifted and brilliant man, BUT, 2minutes 40 seconds in, you drill holes in the piece whilst holding in your hand . If the drill jams and the piece rotates you're looking at nasty injuries to your fingers : (
