i work with robotics - largely they have but theres some last step work like this that hasn't been replaced yet.

It does tear up our neck and back. I don't operate one like this but it's still the same concept. it's a gantry overhead crane and the cab is 40' in the air and travels with the load. Always looking down

Yup down here at the docks in los angeles it takes about 15 years on the job to get to crane driver and get training for it OR the jobs are passed down to the kids..

Find a crane school near you where you can get classes, and do your testing. I just finished mine yesterday at crane tech in Florida.

Don't try to get in here on the west coast USA. The dock workers union is so strong, positions go mostly to relatives. A worker can even leave their seniority to family in their will. Same union for entire coast, relentless strikes got so bad one foreign company built their own shipping port.

@@Elcapitan59 It would be hard on your back to sit upright and then have to look over and down. It would be more ergonomic to lay prone or at a 45° angle.

I work only 5 hours per shift and get pay 10 hours

I'd like to see newer and hopefully upgraded ones.

I work at a smaller port and we utilies smaller cranes (9-12 width boats), loading from sea side isnt a must, but a preference because you see things much easier atleast above hatchets, under hatchets it doesnt really matter that much. But if shipcrew thinks the boat does put to much weight towards the sea they can trim the boat or we can just load some containers from the shore-side to stabilize.

The ships planners know all the weights and mostly the ship is loaded in a pattern to keep it trimmed other than that the ship will pump ballast to keep it level.
