Episode 2... The Svarog Botfly! 

After owning a few Svarog molds, I've found that they are actually kind of fragile. If you smack the sprue cutter open with a mallet, you will wind up with a stripped out bolt hole soon enough. The bolt that holds the sprue plate on is too short. After my first one failed I used a longer bolt for a while, that would grip a few extra threads, but it also wore out after a couple hundred pours. On two of my Svarog molds, I have drilled and tapped new holes for the sprue plate, using a full inch long bolt for the one that holds the plate on. I have over 5000 pours on the repaired molds, and they are still going strong. The core pins are a whole other issue. Keep the screw at the bottom snug, or you will be sorry. If you want your Svarog molds to last, don't use a mallet on them at all when you don't have to. Open the sprue plate with the push of a gloved hand. All that being said, these make some of the best slugs on the planet.

The core pins from the zifferboy mold will fit this mold as well !!

I found that if you keep the pot full, and temp on the Lee almost 0n 8 setting the more it fills out the bands. Used 20 matches and smoked the hell out of the mold. More the better.

great video as always .I used to work in a pewter and lead casting facility and used to cast some it's by hand and by centrifugal casting machine .When I used to cast in molds .We had to heat the molds and turn up the heat on the pot to get to a good form mold temp and it took time to cool down and if it wasn't enough lead it would shrink enough to cause problems

I've got some Silver Laced Wyandottes and they are pretty mellow, however, the Guinea Fowl that I have for tick control make up the difference. Love my birds, I take care of them and they take care of me.

I usually put my molds on top of the melter so it heats up as the lead is melting !

Interesting. Like Ryan's @ Goodell Shotshell, my Botfly mold and slugs by Svarog is just a huge hollow point with no segments.

Getting lead is my problem sadly. Shops using zink and steel weights now.

It sure seems like 30 grains of Longshot is the sweet spot for that one.

I have the 4 petal and straight hollow point pins for my mold, still trying to get another mold and a set of all petal pins. Where did you get the mold in this cazy era? Or have you had it a while and are just now using it? Love your channel Wade bless you brother👍

What kind of Red dot are you using?

I saw full lead taco uses a hot plate to preheat his molds, have you tried that?

I’ve found out that those mold run really hot as well.. took me about 10 or so to figure that out lol.

What temperature do you run you pot at
