Oh, Franklin, I will admit to being utterly jealous because I've long had a romantic, utterly unrealistic, love affair with the idea of Paris. You, who I already idolize, living there just increases it dramatically. I may be projecting, but I can see in your expression and your demeanor a lightness that didn't seem to be there before. Please know that I'm intensely grateful for this window into your life so that vicarious experiences may be enjoyed. Thank you.
Hello Franklin! I'm new to your channel and vlog, but enjoying each episode! Thank you for sharing your journey and life with us! Keep enjoying all that you do! It is soul feeding and one of the beauties in our lives. Best wishes! Nancie
Franklin, you displayed such courage in leaving your old life in Chicago and moving to Paris. So many of us dream of making a real, substantial change in our lives. Traveling, not to mention living abroad is such a bold step. Enjoy your new adventure. We look forward to living, vicariously, through you.
So good to see you back and in such an exciting situation. Can't wait to live vicariously through all your European adventures. Thanks so much for taking the time to share them all with us! Happy stitching in your new environs :)
Wonderful! We up and moved our family to Spain two years ago, and haven’t regretted it for a second. Finding fibre friends here was wonderful. I also enjoy sharing bits of Barcelona and Sitges on my channel, along with knitting and sewing. Congrats on making the dream a reality. ❤️
You;re living my fantasy life - living in France, 2 min walk from a good yarn shop, all the other yarn shops, TGV to anywhere in France........... bliss!! Relax and enjoy!
You look so much healthier and happier, Franklin. The light is back in your eyes. I am so very, very glad to see that light. And hey, for those of us who knit flat stuff and can barely knit fingerless gloves, those socks are awesome.
I just found your channel today. (4/19/22) You are living in one of, if not, my favorite place in the world. Been to Paris 3 times. Loved Sacre Coeur. My husband and I spent 10 days traveling around the city, once we mastered the metro. My sister and I are sewists and quilters. We were able to visit in 2018 and spend time going to Sajou and other sewing and fabric related shops, and art shops. Since we had seen all the usual tourist sites before, we had the time to find some real treasures. I look forward to watching your videos.
OK OK OK I’m still religiously sheltering-in, so you can imagine how this lightning bolt of news is joyously rocking my world! What a treat! A vicarious adventure sho’does feed the spirit! Please drop episodes often. Your positive action, relocation, following your spirit calling will keep us all on the edge of our seats! Wishing you all the best. PS Chicago suffers your absence.
Dear Franklin, I love your site....came across you on RU-vid ( I knit, embroider etc) and lovely RU-vid sends you things! Also you are now in Paris. I lived in Paris from '68-72...yes I'm an old lady....still dream of Paris. Loved the moving in video, laugher like a train. keep going
Paris will stay with you all your life, like it has for me. You will forever live in those memories even if you ever move away. She loves those who love her.
I am very new to your channel but I feel this is going to be a real plus for me. You are very charming. I can say this because my 80th birthday is the day after tomarrow ! And I usually am quite reticent about making comments like this but am pleased to know about your moving adventure and see all your knitting .
You need to make a sun spot for you!!! I'm quite sure that Mimmi will show you all the best sun spots and which are for sharing and which are his alone🐾🐾🐾
Franklin: I am a little envious of your move. I spent a glorious nine days in Paris a couple of years ago, in April. And had the song running through my head most of the time. Be sure to check out the botanical garden! :)
So good to see you, Franklin. I'm curious about how long/difficult the process is for an American citizen to move to France as a permanent resident(?). (paperwork, approval, etc). Although I will miss having you here (took several of your classes - Seattle area and 1 in London!), it will be so exciting to learn about the knitting world in France and, I hope, in various parts of Europe.
Franklin, I’m over the moon delighted for you, and so excited that you are sharing your new home and experiences with us. Merci! I have no French, but am learning Swedish in preparation for next summer’s trip to Scandinavia, home of my ancestors.
Shocked 😮 you would leave indefinitely but very happy for you, as well. Best wishes! I look forward to seeing your videos of your knitting experiences in France. Salud!
How exciting Franklin, not many people can say they did what they always dreamed of doing. Happy to know you will still be podcasting. Can't wait for the next one. No place like Lyon for restaurants.
Thank you so much for this lovely view of life in Paris and this amazing landmark. It helps this Francophile deal with her longing to return to France. More please!!
Franklin! I am a brand new subscriber, I only just found you and I already utterly ADORE you. Can’t wait to spend some more time with you and see more of Paris!
Congratulations on your move!! Happy New Home in Paris & now you're only a short train trip away from London too! (Knit & Stich Show at Alexander Palace London this weekend 🧡 ). Looking forward very much to hearing about everything parisian!
Good for you Franklin! You have written about wearing large thicknesses of outerwear to stay warm when blizzards and cold winds besieged Chicago. Perhaps Paris has gentler winters?
Congratulations and best wishes on your move to Paris, my favorite city in the world. You are such a lucky ducky!!! I'm looking forward to hearing more about your adventures.
Oooh, Lyon's knitting show sounds delightful. I look forward to seeing your next video as well as upcoming adventures. Following along on Instagram has been fun & seeing you on Cabinboys show was cool too. Your window is lovely & certainly many of us look forward to seeing your rooms once your things arrive. Its fun to see our treasured books & items in a new space. I always enjoy combining them in new ways. Enjoy, but above all, be well!
Oh, the light in you new home! What a joy! We have moved all over the continental US and I have learned a thing or two about latitude and altitude and my mental health over the years..... all this to say that light is life giving. X
I've been following along on IG and loving it. I think you look so content and happy there, and I'm happy for you. Sometimes you have to go to where your soul belongs, and France is for your soul.
Bonsoir, M. le Tricoteur! What a huge and exciting move.i did this in the other direction many years ago, also for health among other reasons, so I get that mixture (melange!) of excitement, adventure, fear, all that. Also most of our luggage was books, which took a long time to get from the port of New York to Wisconsin. I knew Paris pretty well, lived there as an au pair, so i need street pix! Good health, good knitting and tell us more.
How fabulous. I have been to Paris twice and loved it. The second time we were there they were pulling a body out of the River Seine 😳 near to Notre Dame and that brought out the inner sleuth 🕵️♂️ in me. Oh and the crepe stands on a cold winters day…warmed my hands as well as my tummy. The first time i went was as a student and we discovered it was cheaper to buy a bottle of wine than a bottle of lemonade!! It was a fun trip 😉😉
I was so surprised to see you on a recent Cabin Boy Knits episode with Jamie in Paris! Good for you - I think you will love this new chapitre dans votre vie🥖🧀🍷!
I looked up videos to dye wool with black walnut hulls and found Cabin Boy's channel, so I looked at a few more of his videos and there you were in one of them! What a surprise! And that was the second time you came up that day, because there's a meme going around with a quote from you as well. I had no idea about your other sides of author and teacher outside of the knitting world!
Well now I know what my own next obsession will be. Completely engaging and charming and entrancing: kind of like a vicariously enjoyed fairy tale. Just, I don’t know…thanks for taking the time to bring us along.
My go-to is plain socks as well :) That colorway is gorgeous! Wishing you the best of luck in your new life, and looking forward to future vlogs from you.
Franklin, you have so much courage. I don't know if I could do what you've done. The move, culling back your book collection, etc.. I'm looking forward to seeing your next video. I would love to live in Europe, for me, my love lays with Antwerpen, Belgium. I saw the city 20 years ago and my love for it has definitely NOT abated. Sadly I've never been to Paris, France, but from the few glimpses I've seen in this video,, I would love it! And Lyon also looks so beautiful. I have a soft spot for old architecture, and Europe definitely fills that spot for me. The window in the background reminds me of the windows at my grandmother's house. In the summer, they would gently move back and forth depending on the wind, letting in puffs of fresh air every few minutes. I can smell the flowers, even now, 55 years later. Thank you for sharing your new life in Paris. I'll be watching. Merci beaucoup for le vlog. J'ai hate de voir le prochain!
Socks are certainly my go-to project in tough times. I've had eye surgery this week, took my sock knitting to day- surgery with me and, though I can't see so well at the moment, I can knit a simple top down sock without a pattern. It is calming. May I say - a noticeable change is the quiet peace of your bright apartment. I never fathomed how you could work in the racket of your Chicago work room. Wishing you happy times in your new home.
Wow, Franklin! Good for you, it sounds like you will have so many new and wonderful adventures in your new home! Best wishes for an easy “settling in” to you. I look forward to your upcoming vlogs! Hugs from Canada.
What a happy surprise to see you back in RU-vid world and so soon after THE move; even better now that you're surrounded by all of that French ambiance et je ne sais quoi! Looking forward to the next vlogs. Yes, I too am more than a little envious, but the only way is in a good way. A bientot!
So happy that you’re happy there, Franklin! Hoping you will feel comfortable in telling us about those difficult choices and also how you organized your move. Best always!
I'm so glad to have discovered your channel when all I'm really allowed to do right now is sit and knit. I'm recovering from a concussion and what I can do, watch, or listen to is limited-- and listening to you while I knit along doesn't trigger any of my symptoms. You are also lovely to listen to!
Funny how Paris is this romanticised big deal to so many US commentors 🤣 I can think of many more pleasant European places… and being multilingual is normal to a good proportion of the population on this continent. Still, it‘s a big move and apparently a very emotional one, wishing you, Franklin, all the best in your new Eiropean life!! A bientôt.
Oh, Franklin it's so good to have you back and looking so well and relaxed in your new abode. I look forward to the tour of your work room and hearing of your adventures in France, I wish you good luck and much happiness in your new home. xx
All sorts of my friends and acquaintances are making astonishing and sudden moves this year. I hope Paris agrees with you. Wishing you the very best, dear friend.
So lovely to hear from you again. I grew up moving back and forth across the pond from England to the US, so I am eagerly awaiting stories from Paris and the continent! Enjoy your new adventures! And the bread!
@@franklinhabit My father was in the military and we moved alot. By the time he retired and we settled in Texas, the US was a foreign country to me! So much to see and experience in the world, soak it all in, my friend. The memories last a lifetime.
Hi Franklin, congrats on your move, I moved from the UK to the US in 2008, enjoy your new city, and please give us a tour of your new studio, see you in the next one.
So happy that you had the courage to make a change like this in your life. And so very jealous (in a sending loving vibes way) that you are situated in Europe. Having repatriated back to the U.S. last year after living in Germany, I just want to be in Europe again. I’ll be following you and hoping to learn some tidbits that could help me realize this goal!! All the best!!!
Very tough decision, but it's just so good that you are going for what you need. And Paris. I mean, Paris! Color, design, pattern, and did I mention color? Making the choice for your life. . . yes!
Ohhh bravo! Bienvenue et bonne chance! What a great move, especially in these times. I am a frogette living in uk for now but of course go back to family in France... It made me smile how you thought the trip to Lyon was a skip and a hop. But coming from a big country, it would be 😁 Dare I ask what happened to,your little dog? À bientôt j’espère 💕🌿
Franklin, Loved your video! I also moved to France several months ago, Colmar to be exact and would love to connect with you on your yarn ventures during one of my frequent Paris visits!!
I love that colorway, and I'm deeply inspired. You have me thinking seriously about investing some time diving into my coding skills and learning Italian. ;)
OMG Franklin, you could have literally knocked me over with a feather! How very exciting; and whatever your reasons, I am thrilled for you. I have visited France--Paris, studied French in Lisieux, and have loved my times there. I hope you will have all that you need for quality of life but it sounds like you have already identified the what you need most--LYS. Will you therefore be teaching at Fiber Festivals such as the Edinburgh and other part of the UK, etc? I am overjoyed to share this relocation experience with you. All the best.
