Sir, it's good to see you like this as a plain man shorn of the tinsel trappings. There was a time when the media projected you as a proud, haughty and immodest person. What changed my attitude was your films. Way back in the eighties, I was veritably marooned in the Northeast along with some friends. It was the pre-satellite era. North-east was virtually cut off from the rest of India. We were as removed from Kerala both mentally and physically as if we were in Antarctica. Then one of the shops there began to lend much used video cassettes of Malayalam films ( Thompson). Their condition was pathetic as they had made countless rounds in the gulf. On weekends around ten of us ( All penniless students) used to gather in one house, pool money together, rent TV, VCR and Cassettes and watch them the whole night. As a happy coincidence, most of them were your films. For me it was my first exposure to your oeuvre. Earlier during one of my short visits, I had seen the posters of Oru Paingili katha/chiriyo chiri with your magnified face and of course the trademark headband. Being a stranger to your popularity, I had wondered if projecting just a single face would be enough to the crowds to the theatre. When I finally watched your movies, I realised I had grossly underestimated your appeal. During a short period, we saw a quite a number of your films, oru Paingili katha, Chiriyo chiri, karyam nissaram, prashnam gurutharam, aarante mulla kochu mulla, Ente ammu.. and so on. It was a Balachandra Menon Film Fest for us. And I simply have no words to describe what they did to us. Your films literally transported us, a bunch of homesick youngsters, to the soul of Kerala. It was pure nostalgia. We could see, smell, hear, taste and feel our beloved land in every shot. We could relive our memories. We would relive familiar situations. We could meet characters so common in rural Kerala. We would eagerly wait for the weekends and spend the whole night watching movies one after the other. Sometimes we would see them again or at least the songs with their stunning visuals. For a few hours,we would soak in as much of the Kerala flavour as we could. It simply transformed our drab lives. The humour. The nadan romance. The pathos. The petty rivalries. The snobbery. We lapped it all up without batting an eye. It was like a cool a refreshing summer shower falling on parched and thirsty land. This note is to thank you for that ethereal experience. Since then, I have seen innumerable films. Now I am settled here in Kerala. But I have never experienced that indescribable magic. I know I will never meet you in person. This note is to thank you from the bottom of my heart for bringing alive the unique feel of Kerala's in a few forlorn souls in a godforsaken land.

ഞാൻ നവംബർ 5 നു ഉദ്യാൻ കൺവെൻഷൻ സെന്റർക്കു ഒരു നടത്തം നടന്ന്, ആദ്യം ആയി സർനെ കണ്ടു മുട്ടിയതും, പിന്നെ 7 നു വൈറ്റ്ഫോർട്ട്‌ക്കു ഉള്ള നടത്തം, അന്ന് ശമ്പളം വര്രത്ത് ആണെകിൽ ഇന്ന് അനുഭവിക്കുന്നത് ഒരുപാട് ദിവസവും കടന്നു പോകുന്നത് കൊറോണ എന്നാ ഇ മഹാമാരി ആണ്. ഇ എപ്പിസോഡ് എന്റെ ലൈഫ്നോട് ഒരുപാട് ചേർന്നു നിൽക്കുന്നു.. thanks alot സർ എന്നെ ഇ സിനിമ ലോകത്ത് എത്തിച്ചതിനു.. 💓

കലികയുടെ തിരക്കഥാ രചന കൊല്ലം കാർത്തിക ഹോട്ടലിൽ room no.107 ൽ സാർ നടത്തുന്ന സമയത്ത് അന്ന് അവിടെ ജോലിയിലുണ്ടാരുന്ന സാറിന്റെ favourite ആയ എന്റെ സീനിയേഴ്സ് ആയ Robert ,Raju, മോഹൻ (Jayan സാറിനെ അനുകരിച്ച മിമിക്രി ചെയ്തിരുന്ന കടപ്പാക്കട മോഹൻ) എന്നിവരോടും എന്നോടും എല്ലാം അത്യധികം സ്നേഹത്തോടെയാണ് സാറ് പെരുമാറിയിരുന്നത്. കലികയുടെ പേപ്പർ work ചെയ്യുന്ന സമയം സാർ തിരക്കഥ എങ്ങിനെയുണ്ട് എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് വായിക്കാൻ സാറിന്റെ റൂമിൽ വെച്ച് തരുമായിരുന്നു. സാറിനെക്കുറിച്ച് തന്റേടി അല്ലെങ്കിൽ ആരേയും കൂശാത്തവൻ എന്ന ഒരു പ്രചരണം തന്നെ നിലവിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. പക്ഷെ ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് തീരെ മനസ്സിലാകാത്ത ഒരു സംഗതിയായി രുന്നു അത്. അക്കാലത്ത് എല്ലാവരേയും വെറുപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് കേരള ശബ്ദത്തിൽ ഖണ്ഡശ നോവൽ പ്രസദ്ധീകരിച്ചിരുന്ന നോവലിസ്റ്റ് ശ്രീ. അയ്യനേത്ത് സ്ഥിരമായി അവിടെ എഴുത്തിനായി താമസിച്ചിരുന്നു. ഞങ്ങൾ ആർക്കും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ റൂമിൽ പോകാനോ അദ്ദേഹവുമായി ഇടപഴകാനൊ ഇഷ്ടമില്ലായിരുന്നു. മദ്യത്തിന്റെയും സിഗററ്റിയും സ്മെൽ കാരണം. റൂം നിറയെ മദ്യക്കുപ്പികളും ,സിഗരറ്റ് കുറ്റികളും മറ്റൊന്ന് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ സംസാരരീതിയേയും കാരണമായിരുന്നു അത്. പക്ഷെ ബാലചന്ദ്രമേനോൻ സാറിന്റെ റൂമിൽ അതൊന്നുമില്ല. എപ്പോഴും വെടിപ്പായിരിക്കും. അഹങ്കാരമുള്ളയാളാണ് സാർ എന്നൊക്കെ പിന്നീട് കേട്ടപ്പോൾ ഞങ്ങൾക്ക് തമാശ മാത്രമായിട്ടാണ് തോന്നിയത്.കാരണം സാർ ഏത് കാര്യത്തിലും Bold ആണ് എന്ന് ഞങ്ങൾക്കൊക്കെ അന്നേ അറിയാമായിരുന്നു. സാർ കലിക ചെയ്യുന്ന സമയത്ത് ഞങ്ങൾ ഷൂട്ടിങ്ങ് കാണുവാൻ തിരുവനന്തമരത്ത് ഉമാ സ്റ്റുഡിയോയിലേക്ക് വന്നിട്ടുണ്ട്. കലിക ചെയ്യുമ്പോൾ റെഡ്‌ഢിയാരുമായി തെറ്റാൻ ഉണ്ടായ പ്രശ്നവും, AT.Abhu വരാനുണ്ടായ കാരണവും എന്തായിരുന്നു സർ . കേൾക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹം. എല്ലാവരും ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടും. എന്റെ പേര് ബാലകൃഷ്ണൻ (Palakkad)1983 ൽ കാർത്തിക വിട്ടു. പിന്നീട് ഗവൺമെന്റ് സർവീസിൽ കയറി. 2018 April മാസം റിട്ടയർ ചെയ്തു, സസ്നേഹം.

Most of the episode i watched. I am respecting mr. Balachandramenon. In 1984 the rithubedam film shooting location ( In manjeri) 15 days i stayed with the film unit . Talk and discussed most of the day . Next I met in Trivandrum Chittranjali studio - Editing and recording session of Arante mulla kochumulla - That time one of my documentary film work Going on ( One more martyre ) . Anyway the conclusion is In my mariage in 1989; I wish to attend my marriage mr. balachandramenon . I went to his house in sasthamangalam (V & V ) one of the friday , i think around 11.am . enter in to the house and ask his wife mr. menon is here . She said that he is sleeping and she re-enter the house and closed the house door . In my heartly say that very big feelings raised in my mind. At least ask the person name or invite to sit in the sitout or what's the matter for coming... note asked. That's insident never forget in my life.. Where ever reach the human . The sympathy or life satiar always reach in each mankind . Other wise life is a big O I believe. Now also i respect this personality . SARAVAN MAHESWER INDIAN WRITER.

I binge watched all your episodes yesterday. Curious to know the story behind your first film. Very sad that there is no print available for the same. Would have loved to see how you picturized the song "manju pozhiyunnu" by Vani jayaram. It's a soul stirring melody!
