I am loving this. I've gotten several guys to tune in to these. It's the best course in how to fish for crappie I have every seen. It's hard to learn watching the back side of some one catching fish. This can get you moving in the right direction. Can't wait for the next episode. Thank You Matt!

I am really enjoying this series. Today I went out and used your Reel 3X then Pause technique and got some bites I probably otherwise wouldn't have. I was too hung up on vertical jigging and didn't realize how effective swimming the bait could be. Thanks!

Another excellent video Matt! Thanks for the step by step instruction followed up with the Livescope capture. Two questions: 1) How close do you like to get your boat to the brushpile? 2) I can see a buoy on the water surface; how close to you like to get the buoy to the brushpile? Any buoy tips would be appreciated!
@WiredforCrappie
@WiredforCrappie Год назад
1) Depending on depth I like to stay 20 - 40 ft away. If fish are on brush they will typically stay because they feel safe on structure. 2) With livescope I like to throw my buoy to the side 15 ft. Without livescope I will put the buoy right on the brush pile. Buoy tips will be on Ep 6 (How to Buoy a Brush Pile)

With the Live scope data, it shows the jig dropping faster then 1 ft per sec. I count 1 mississippi 2 mississippi etc...but it's always 4ft to 5ft deeper. That's where all jig heads are not equal. That 1/16 Oz must be on the heavier side.

How to count down 1/32 jig? Does it take twice as long to fall? (30 sec for 15’)?
@davidhunley4982
@davidhunley4982 Год назад
Anyone got an answer?😊
@WiredforCrappie
@WiredforCrappie Год назад
Surprisingly no. A 1/32 will fall a little slower but not enough to notice a difference in gal rate.

Love your videos and have watched most of them, some two or three times. I do have one question though. When using jigs how do you know when to set the hook? Yesterday while using a jig I could feel the tap but I missed a lot of fish when I tried to set the hook. I did catch a few which is better than usual for me using a jig. I usually slip cork minnows and have good luck with it. When you feel that tap do you immediately set your hook or do you pause and wait to see if you feel it again? Thanks Matt for your advice and your videos.
@WiredforCrappie
@WiredforCrappie Год назад
David, good question. I set the hook as soon as I feel the thump.

@@WiredforCrappie Thanks for your reply. That's what I've been trying to do. At 73 my reaction time is probably not as fast as yours. lol 😂

Matt what dictates when you throw an 1/8, a 1/16 or a 1/32 jig when casting & retrieving & what weight for vertical jigging? Thanks
@WiredforCrappie
@WiredforCrappie Год назад
Time. If I have time to wait I’ll throw a 1/16 so a have the slower fall and more time to play with the fish

Out of curiosity, when you cast out and count down, why do you set the bail? Why not leave bail open and feed line so it falls right where you cast it?
@WiredforCrappie
@WiredforCrappie Год назад
Todd I always ensure I have enough slack for the jig to fall, or I do leave the bail open,

10 feet is quite straighter forward, but the crappies are sitting at 30+ feet in my home lake... Any idea how to get them?
@WiredforCrappie
@WiredforCrappie Год назад
Same technique just let the jig fall to 30 ft
