You're doing great for a beginner. I dont think I could have a podcast then. Keep up the good work..looks like you've had good advice given. I would suggest that you DO join the knit group, they will be beneficial in your knit journey, helping you with fixes and new pattern language as well as knitting tips .

Shirley, thanks for that feedback. I appreciate it. 🥰. When I was at my library job yesterday, I saw the staff member who runs the knitting group. She said they are very casual…a nice group of people. I think I’ll join in and check it out.

I am amazed at your first three projects, Renee. You are doing really well. I have returned to knitting socks and loving it. Keep going.

Your hat looks great! Congratulations on mastering knitting in the round AND doing those decreases on dpns. You're getting lots of great experience. Your socks look wonderful (self striping sock yarn is so fun) - glad people have already responded to tell you that you don't need to rewind yarn that comes in a skein like that. Regia is great sock yarn and holds up really well. It will get softer after you wash it!

Hi Lisa. Thanks so much for watching and for the kind feedback. 🥰. I’m glad to also have that feedback on Regia. I’ve put the sock project aside for now because I was finding it SO small on the size 1 needles and struggling. But I’ve now started something else circular!!!!

Hello! I love your videos and can relate to knitting your first socks. I use the magic loop method, using wooden needles, size 2, 32 inches long, and have been happy with this method. I have a basic sock pattern in my head that I use for many types of socks, including patterned and color work, etc. there are so many variations, it’s never boring!

It must be really nice to get to a recipe for sock knitting and a method. I feel as though I’m getting there!

Enjoy your journey. I have knitted that same Tin Can Knits pattern. You are off to a great start. Yarn buying hint: if you buy a 'hank' of yarn, you need to wind it. If your yarn comes in a a skein like your sock yarn you can knit from the skein directly.

This has been such a revolution…thank you!!!

Regia is a good brand, but I haven't knit socks with it. I use a tube from tin foil (if I want a center pull ball) but otherwise I normally just wind it in a regular ball and put it in a yarn bowl, it doesn't take me long. Roxanne Richardson has a good video on using a nostepenne (in my case a tin foil tube) if you are interested. Your beret turned out really cute. I don't know a video to just suggest for that dropped stitch since you are finished. I think I would pull the loop to the inside of the hat and attach a piece of yarn and just weave it in to secure it. There is so much color going on I don't think anyone would notice it. The yarn is really pretty. I am sure your daughter will love it. I love making hats in the round. Good luck on your socks. I love making those and a good Vanilla Sock pattern is great to have. There are so many great sock yarns, some that make a pattern that a Vanilla Sock is my go to.

Thanks for the feedback and the tips on the beret! It’s fun to hear you talk about making socks. Oh yes, it was Roxannes video I watched. That’s right, the tin foil or paper towel tube. 👏👏👏

I used the same sock pattern for my first pair. A great pattern and they fit! You don’t have to rewind yarn that is already in a ball. Winding is only for yarn that comes in unwound skeins.

Hazel, oh cool!! Thanks for that intel. I appreciate it!

I don’t think you need a ball winder. I have found the easiest is to just wind them into a ball and weigh one on your kitchen scale. Easy-peasy.

All the best on your knitting journey! May I just say, there's no need to rewind the ball of sock yarn. Yarn winders are used to wind skeins or hanks of yarn which would be very difficult to work from in that form. Most commercial yarns, such as Regia, come wound as yours is, whereas Indie dyers, independent dyers, tend not to prewind them as that is extra labour. Have fun!

Your beret is really pretty! While you wait your daughter to try it, if you have extra stitch markers, you could place one through each dropped stitch to keep them from unraveling so you don't have to worry about in the meantime. For weaving your ends there's different ways you can do it depending where the yarn tail is in your fabric. From the beginning of this video you can see how you can do it where you started with the ribbed brim of your beret. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ylrfydRfeTU.html This video will help you with the top of your beret. The only difference is that when you end your work in decreases your fabric doesn't look as "simple" as it does when the area is square as it is in the video. You can either first guide your yarn end to a place where there is a place without decreases so it's easier for you to follow the video's directions. The other option is to just not really bother following one yarn up and down as smoothly. The stretch of the fabric isn't really the biggest issue at that point of your work. You can do close enough version og the up and down motion that is shown on the video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v-p4qsiyuI8.html (She also has a lot of good videos for different techniques and tips.) You can cut your scarf if you want to even if it's pretty advanced technique, we all are beginners when doing something for the first time. :) This video has some guidance for it if you want to do it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e9MyBt-CJsI.html If you buy skein like the one you bought for knitting your socks, you don't have to wind them up before using them. You need to wind them only if they're hanks of yarn because it's impossible to knit with them if they are still in hanks and not cakes. (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KUJAagnk63Q.html another video to explain those terms 😅) You can cake up skeins also but you don't have to where you need to do it with hanks of yarn. :) I have a knit pro wool winder for maybe six months now and I have really put it to test and it has worked for me well. It's not the quietest one but I don't mind it that much. I don't know about it's price point there but here it wasn't the cheapest but not the most expensive either.

Thanks! Oh my goodness, what great advice about the dropped stitches. And thank you for taking the time to link some videos here. Wow. I can’t wait to dig in. Oh my god and mind-blowing about not having to wind skeins of yarn. That’s why Amy at the yarn store didnt wind my sock yarn! Again, thanks so much for all your help and for watching. What a community. 🥰

You can knit to new needles like you would for dpns. I am currently knitting socks on a chia goo 9 inch and switching to bamboo dpns for heel flap/heel turn and then back to the circular until I do the toe decreases. My needles are all a size one though. Are you sure you need a 13 inch? I haven't watched the Crazy Sock Ladies video, but I have tried a couple of Vanilla sock patterns and haven't seen one that uses a 13 inch circular yet.

Thanks for the heads up about that! I’ll read the pattern again. 🥰

Hi Renee, Wow! Your projects all look terrific, when you finish your wheat scarf and block it you will be able to massage it a bit by stretching the tighter bits out and don’t stretch the beginning. But no one will notice as it’s being worn 😊 And your beret, the top bit where you pull the yarn thru the last stitches is then woven in so the knitting doesn’t come apart. A row counter is helpful, but using those stitch markers as you are works just as well. I don’t always remember to move my counter on 😂 How lovely to be able to share your journey. So glad you’ve found a group and at your library too. Best wishes Edwina
