I suggest that you show the gems longer. They are only up for 1-2 seconds. It is good to see more of them and less of the speaker.

When we were visiting a small gem & artisan made jewelry store last year in Lancaster PA, I purchased some very small and raw pieces of Chrysocolla…I think that’s what it was. It reminded me of turquoise, which is why I was drawn to it. But really, the blue was even more vivid than what I’ve seen in turquoise, though it was pretty chalky, but gorgeous. I would love to see it in some jewelry.

I do love chrysocolla, and have sold it on shopping channels in the past. It is similar to turquoise, and is usually stabilized just like turquoise

Thanks for all your great info….as a reseller of vintage collectibles and vintage fashion jewelry, I sometimes come across some real stuff. I really want to learn more about gemstones and the “pretend” jewelry too so I will know what I’m looking at, for buying or selling. Thanks!

Paul! It's so great to see you online here. I've been following you since the QVC days and Judy also. I wish she'd stayed with JTV. She brought a level of class and style in the Stratify Collection that previously never existed. My mom adores the rose gold floral rhodolite, chrome diopside and ethiopian floral pendant and ring but can't find any earrings anywhere to match. I'm excited to view all the lessons you post. As a GIA grad, I'm very much a gem snob and guides like yourself, refine my selectiveness.

The price of real unconstituted turquoise is out of this world, It seems that if someone can produce a copy that it takes an expert to tell the difference more power to them! Purity only benefits the mine owners!

Wow this was a great lesson , a quick question what are the 3 best places to know to get Turquoise from , or should I say countries that have the best Turquoise, Your lessons are awesomeness for this collector !! a have a great weekend Judy and Paul !!!
@pauldeasygemstones
@pauldeasygemstones 3 года назад
Tommy, you ask awesome questions-that's I why I read some of them at the beginning of the lessons. The world's biggest producer of turquoise is China. That said, most experts will agree that the USA has the best quality overall than anywhere else. KIngman continues to be an important source (and it is easily accessible if you wanted to arrange a visit). They won't let you back where the mining takes place, but they have a storefront right on the property just north of the town of Kingman. Lots of great turquoise throughout Nevada as well as Arizona and Colorado.

P.S. Forget to mention you must go to Sunwest Silver in downtown Albuquerque. I mentioned it on the lesson. It is Ernie Montoya. He is awesome and the store is spectacular. Lots of collectors items as well as Native American hand made jewelry.

So many sellers have no idea what they are actually selling. So many sellers have dyed howlite and honestly think it is turquoise.

How about a show on real copper matrix.... witch I have but am too stupid to figure out....
@pauldeasygemstones
@pauldeasygemstones 10 месяцев назад
Thanks, James. It would be impossible for you to be stupid. After all, your were smart enough to watch my videos! On a serious note, I would like to accommodate your request in the future. For now, remember that there would be no turquoise without copper. Turquoise it a hydrous phosphate of copper and aluminum. If there is no copper, it is not a turquoise it is a veriscite. Ergo, it is possible to have copper matrix in a turquoise stone. That said, there have been other turquoise products that had bronze in turquoise. My friend Marty Colbaugh who is the leaseholder of the Kingman turquoise mine, had a compressed stabilized and dyed turquoise with bronze in it. Was it natural? No. But as long as you disclose the treatments (which I always do), it is fine! Hope this helps!

if howlite is naturally white - what is white buffalo?
@pauldeasygemstones
@pauldeasygemstones 3 года назад
Great question, Jane. Most people I have spoken to-even in the jewelry business get this one wrong. And there are a lot of people who try to get howlite or calcite and use some sort of black dye. None of that is legit. Most of the White Buffalo I have dealt with is from Nevada, and is calcite and quartz. which can morph into dolomite. With its high silica content (quartz), it is much harder than howlite

This would be good if you kept it simple...just wanted to know how to tell if turquoise is real...not a college course in gemmology...thanks anyway. ...I'm 15 min. Into this...now just confused...
@pauldeasygemstones

Sorry you feel my lessons aren’t for you. Truth is, just wanting to “if turquoise is real” isn’t that simple-especially when the GIA (gemological institute of America discourages making an identification simply by looking at a gem. At any rate, I’m sure you can find a RU-vid gem channel more to your liking

Please don't ask to subscribe at the start of the video. How do I know if I like your video if I haven't watched it yet. Ask at the end. We all know to subscribe if we like the vid. I just had to say it.
@pauldeasygemstones
@pauldeasygemstones 3 года назад
Hi Simone, Thanks for your input. I am a 61 years old and a relatively new you tuber. Most of my subscribers are of a similar generation. The truth is, most of them don't know how to subscribe or they are afraid to subscribe because they think it will cost them something to subscribe. It is important to me to continue to make my lessons free to anybody who wants to watch them. By getting more subscribers (which is working for me by asking for them), I can make a small amount of money from those ads so my content remains free. Furthermore, when you look at the analytics, the average view time is less than the actual length of the videos. That means if you only ask for subscribers at the end, it is a futile and failing business model. If it bothers you so much to spend 7 to 10 seconds of my asking people to subscribe at the beginning, then my all means don't subscribe and don't watch my videos. I promise I won't be offended. P.S. I noticed you have 3 subscribers. Maybe you want more or maybe you don't. But if you do, I would recommend you ask for people to subscribe.
