Earlier humans thought getting sick was because of a curse from God or something ridiculous like that, and then we learnt about viruses, bacterias, gems... They would be shocked if they were to live today. Discovering such may not happen in our lifetime or as we know humanity today, however, we may be suprised if we were to live in future centuries. The most frustrating thing about embracing superstitious like these is that, because they think they have the 'answers', they kill discovery. Billions and billions of believers worldwide, perhaps among them, they may have come up with real testable answers to these hard hitting questions. I agree with you non the less.
