Robin, this was heartbreaking to watch. I’m so sorry to hear about you not being able to go to your niece’s wedding. I really hope your aunt is able to find peace as well under these terrible circumstances. You and Mike were making videos long before I was, in fact your channel was extremely important for me and instrumental in helping me to decide to make my own. I’ll never forget that Skype conversation that I had with you and Mike after you both reached out to me. It really motivated me to keep going. You were also one of the firsts to mention my videos in one of yours, and I am very grateful for that as well. Just know that you have and you continue to make a difference by bringing light to this and encouraging others to realize that although this is incredibly painful, it is still possible to live a fulfilled life. I had others beg to let me go to my niece's wedding! I missed their wedding's and baby showers. Those people will never love my family as I do! That cult is and has committed huge crimes against humanity!

I have not been to meetings for 2 years now and likewise I'm in the same situation like you. The elders visited me about 3 times to encourage me. I know of the child abuse and that's what made me to stop attending meetings. Their naiveness and the fact that JWs won't see sense in anything, close their eyes to what's happening in the organization makes me so mad. All my so called friends don't even talk to me. It's really sad how they behave.

One of the most painful subject of WT....When my son got married, I couldn't attend as a df person. I lost my children, my family is broken apart because of this evil cult. The emotions are like a roller coaster. I have been through severe depression many times. Is not easy knowing that this evil cult destroyed your life, took away your best years and now they are going to do the same with your own children. I left 15 years ago, as result a broken marriage for what? Can anyone tell my why? Why did I had to go through nightmares as a kid with horrible Armageddon killing my "Worldly" friends? Why I never persuade a career because the Generation of 1914 will not pass away, and I spent the best years of my life pioneering? Why did I have to work low paid jobs so to sell WT's publications? Why did I had to loose my own children, and we never had a normal family life because of this cult? Why did I have to live the loss of 2 of my best friends, killing themselves from depression caused by the WT? There are times that I feel I can't go on, I cry, but then I stand up to continue. If we fail it will make them happy. And I WILL, WE WILL NOT GIVE WT THIS SATISFACTION

I am not a JW nor was one, but started bible study 40 odd years ago, and quickly stopped when I saw (this is before internet etc) the contradiction of what they taught and what was in the bible (fortunately I actually read the bible) just hoped to learn more, but realised it was a cult. The person that I was studying with never even read the bible, but the JW books and magazines. She hated me asking too many questions and told me I, my husband and baby will be destroyed at the very soon to come Armageddon. What a joke, I could not get away quickly enough. Very brave of you, I am in the same situation my wife is a regular pioneer and so is my daughter and her husband, I haven't seen my daughter in over a year and me and my wife just share a house nowadays. It really hurts when they all go out for a meal and I am not invited. I feel your pain

The guy speaking at 3:22, what hes saying its so disingenuous and is a legal cover up job, when lets face it: the judge and most others there wont really understand what the reality is in the Jehovahs Witnesses. Shunning definetly does go on. They make out that shunning is always for something really serious, but in reality often it isnt, sometimes someone can be shunned for simply no longer believing in the teachings of the jw hieracy and disasociating themselves, and for other reason. Sometimes a person remarries and will not return to the jw religion and will be shunned permanently by his or her own familuy
I'm so sorry Robin, every word off your lips hits me in the heart because I feel exactly the same way about my family. I guess I try hard not to think about the pain but I go through the identical roller coaster of emotions and thoughts about the future of my family and possibly never seeing them again or having family times ever again. The thing I remind myself of, in order to cope, is that they are abusers and toxic and that being away from them is a protection for me to heal from those destructive cycles in families. To get stronger. When it's all said and done, they are the ones who lived their entire lives as a lie...they are the ones who have made a collosal mistake with their entire existence. And hopefully one day in this life or the life after, that fact hits them like a MAC truck.

Im so sorry. Heart breaking I was abused by a bethelite in the 70s and developed a dependence on drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism. I got dfd and am shunned by my whole family i cluding my children. Destructive cult.

I had to shun my mother once, and I tried not to talk about her only because it was MY embarrassment and MY shame. Not my beloved mother's. I don't know if that's any comfort, but I just say it because I hope it will help you to realize your family members are living their own hell, like I did when I shunned my beautiful mom. Now I'm being shunned after getting df'd in 2000. I wasn't invited to my daughter's wedding. That was devastating to me. I don't even know where she lives now. I never recieved a letter or any notification from elders that they difsfellowshipped me. I heard from witnesses that they made the announcement. I'm so happy now!!!

I have been following you and Mike about 3 years and I remember being concerned about your emotional well being about two years ago. You said you needed some time off from making videos because you were going through a very difficult time. I think I remember telling you to just take care of yourself and be patient. So here you still are dispensing the message to help the ex and inside JW’s. You became even stronger. But please allow yourself to acknowledge that you may not ever be able to stop mourning your losses and the waste that was not necessary that happened within your family because of WT. It’s very human. I know that is the same for me, even though never disfellowshipped. Good on Mike and you professionally. I’m going to be 60 next month was baptised at 19. Faded a few years back but woke up a couple of years ago partly through your videos along with a couple of others. Fortunately my children never took to the jw - a lot of history and they have seen shunning through extended family on their father’s side. It is a cruel practice designed to keep the wall around so people cannot form true connections that would undermine their control. So many lives affected, so many years wasted. Standing up against oppression no matter what the personal cost is still a more noble cause than suffering in silence. I am so sorry for the pain you are enduring and even though we are here it still doesn’t take all the sting away. Witnesses are so insular and uncaring to all really - inside and out, trained to be numb to all real feeling. Hugs to you and your aunt and may the 4th be with you ❤️

Hi Robin, my only son was married 2 years ago and my youngest daughter (his sister) and I were not invited to his wedding. In a way I was kind of glad because it makes me sick to my stomach to set foot in another Kingdom Hall but what it did to my family who are not Witnesses, made them hate my son and his wife for not inviting my daughter and me. Even his oldest sister (a regular pioneer) had a hard time forgiving him for not inviting us but I tried explaining to everyone that we didn't hold it against him because that is what the religion requires of him and he would have had to take sides etc. Neither my youngest daughter and I have been disfellowshipped either. That religion needs to be stopped and hopefully soon. In the meantime, all we can do is keep on keeping on. If you are like me, I will never stoop to going back to that religion to get my family back. My son has gained probably about 100 pounds in the time since he got married and I think he is eating his pain because he loves me so much and is probably so afraid Jehovah is going to kill me at Armageddon if I don't "come back" to the religion. That is what it has done to our friends and relatives and no matter how much it isn't true, they can't see it and no matter how much we try and reassure them Jehovah isn't going to do that to us because we have no control over what we believe or don't believe they can't hear it. If we don't believe in the religion anymore, then the Society will do their best to get us shunned anyway as if we have control over what we believe and what kind of god would do that to somebody just because they can't force themselves to believe it? If your family doesn't talk to you and you are not disfellowshipped, then I think they are acting on the advice of their elders. My son talks to me and my youngest daughter as long as we don't talk about the Bible or the religion and I also refuse to hand in my resignation so the Society so they won't get the satisfaction of disfellowshipping me.
Bonnie Wilber thank you for your words and telling me about your own experience. As far as my parents listening to the elders, my dad IS “THE” elder. Other elders in their hall have adult children who have left the religion and they still communicate and associate with them. But not my dad! He’s gotta “set the example” even though he spoke with and visited his own disfellowshipped father until his fathers death. Even gave the memorial talk! Very hypocritical!
So sorry about the wedding Robin . We knew sooner or later one of our parents would die. My husband’s father died last month. No goodbye no nothing, so surreal. . Hey Robin. I'm sorry to hear your news ref. wedding. I share your situation. I fear there is no solution. It's not a situation of your making. The solution is with others. You mention in your video about 'it's not like being dead. they don't even speak about you'. You make a very valid point. It is as though your/my life never took place. In my situation, all my siblings have removed all photos of me from their rooms , fridges and homes. I have been erased. It's odd to think there are people on this Earth who do not even recognize me - past and present. All that we can hope for, is that those who shun make a change. For me, and my family (knowing them as i do) i don't see that happening in my lifetime. I sincerely wish that will not be the case for you. Remain hopeful. Remain open and available. Take care.

I saw your video today. Maybe you remember me-the ex elder, ex jw bicyclist. We corresponded a little while ago. I saw you crying and it hurt me. What can I say? Is there any true humanity in an organization that can cut off people-treat them as dead or as if they had never existed-even people that are their own flesh and blood? I am alone. I have no relatives in this cult nor do I have any individuals that I can truly call my friends. I'm glad that I don't. I don't need their love nor do I want it because it is not a true love. It is an artificial construct-something that is referred to as a proof that this organization is blessed by God-which it is not. It is only like a businessman using an advertising ploy to "convince" other people that his product is better than the other guy's in order for him to amass more revenue. I hated to see you crying but I understand that that is the normal reaction to betrayal and lack of true humanity. You are a beautiful woman-both externally and internally. Your not being invited to a relative's wedding is an affront to you. There's no question about it. But this rejection will make you stronger. It will reaffirm that you made the right decision in getting as far away as possible from people who do not have the faintest notion of what it is to be caring human being. I liked the guinuen expression about how they have their beliefs and you have yours. The Jehovah Witnesses will not listen or discuss anything but their beliefs. (I know my daughter is indoctrinated) l started to listen in when she would have home studies and every thing sounded so wonderful. I began to dig deep into the organization and saw how their bible is changed to fit their non-tritian beliefs. It was to late to discuss this with my daughter they went full force with the love bombing. I started impro theater half a year ago and I’m totally hooked since then. I even talked more people into doing impro than I converted people into JW (those a zero thank goodness). For the rest of your story, it’s so recognisable. The shunning totally destroys familly relations and creates so much anxiety and sadness. Keep up the good work, keep strong and enjoy impro, it’a so much fun :)
My husband and I were shunned for 7 years and tried our best to wake them up, but sadly my husband passed away 10 days ago. I wonder how they feel knowing they shunned a true Christian (probably nothing)
That is very sad. I think you are right, they probably do not care about the your husband. It is such destructive evil cult. I am so, so grad i discontinued the so called fake bible study over 40 years ago, I just could not accept a lot of their propaganda, and saw another side of them, which was cold. I stayed in my own religion and very happy. We have regular proper bible studies, open discussions. Be strong - you are the better person and your husband has a better chance of life with Jesus than the JG following blindly the governing body.

I discovered your channel last year and watched every single video. You and Mike played a major role in helping me. My sisters are shunning me, not because I am disfellowshipped (because I have never been a JW). They are shunning me simply because I told them the truth.
This truly resonated with me. My heart goes out to you. I was in and out of the Jehovahs witnesses growing up but never truly in. My sister joined over 30 yrs ago being baptized. My mother joined close to 20yrs ago. They both have consistently distanced themselves from me. My niece is 2 yrs old and she is being taught to reject me. I'm a shunned non Jehovah's witness. They are against me because I follow Christ. I told them that they are hypocrites. They go door to door preaching love? Truth? They know nothing about it. God is not in this cult. I will always welcome them if they want a relationship but I had to get off of their hamster wheel. Wanting others to believe they are happy, I cannot live a lie. I thank God everyday that I never was led to follow them . Jesus Christ is Lord so I will be rejected as He was. It's hurtful but I must be real. I love and will continue to love without judgement. My children may not understand but you don't try to understand insanity. God bless you
Same here, not invited to any family weddings, not informed about the dead in family or pregnancies or babies being born. Nothing at all. I live abroad and I wouldn’t have known anything of the above if it wasn’t for my worldly family memebers. What a bad witness for the worldly family as they realised what are the JW practises. They told me that no way they will ever listen to their message as they used to coz from the way they treat me they know there is no love among them.
Angie you’re absolutely right!! I tell EVERYONE about what JWs practice. If they were so proud of their stand, they’d gladly and eagerly tell the outside world. But the truth is that they are ashamed deep down. Very sad!
Yes, you are right Robin. Deep down they are ashamed of this coz it’s going against human nature. I do expose them to everyone and they know I am very vocal in the family. In my case I am glad I have more Catholics in the family then JWs. Both parties were quite close until I left the Org and opened my mouth, lol. So lately my hard core JW aunt distributed to her worldly cousins some manufactured letter from the pope Francis praising JWs 🤣 ( probably to do the damage control) but I was told there is no way this can ever change the perception of my worldly family about this organisation 😀 warm hugs to you Robin! Oh Robin, I wish I could give you a hug. You and Mike are honestly the best. I love you guys. You do such a good job that you make me feel ok about not doing anything. lol. Honestly though, great video. Raw emotion is powerful to show. Here are my thoughts and they may be insane/not work for anyone else: I have had to realize that JW’s are not capable of being family. Hopefully one day they will leave and they will be capable of it but while they are in they are not. They are property of Watchtower. Would I ask the Watchtower society if someone I love is allowed to come to my graduation, or over for dinner? No. I won’t. I know the answer. I would love it if those biologically related to me would want to be in my life but as long as they don’t, they aren’t family. Family is an earned title. You deserve to have family. You deserve to be loved unconditionally. JW’s can’t do that. They aren’t your family. Spend time in your life with people that are able to love you. That’s my advice. It might not work for everyone but it’s worked for me.

In Holland a petition against shunning by wt has been given on tv to a representative of the government. Robin, I'm going through the same issue as you are except it's my son who's getting married. He's not a witness nor is his bride to be. My daughter and husband have decided not to attend because I am disfellowshipped. She told my son she doesn't want her kids around me. I don't even try to associate because I've been out for years and I have other family members in this but as soon as I get over one hurtful thing something else comes up. It's almost like a constant reminder that you're being persecuted for not following these men. I know how you feel. I want my family back too but I realize it's not going to happen until they are up from under this influence. I've decided to let them go to save my own sanity. I would suggest go on with your life because you'll just get more upset about this. This evil organization will get their payback from God. He sees what's happening and that's the reason all their man-made junk is being revealed more often than anyone can keep up with. Stay strong.

I just want you to know that I miss watching your videos. I watched this video months ago but I rewatched it again tonight. I’m so sorry for the sadness. My kids and I understand . I hear you Robin, The agony we suffer from shunning is inhumane. The most effective way to torture human beings as we're social creatures, needing each other, safe in packs. I realize you're a fashion designer, however I am an especially sensitive person with all my senses and not only do I wear stitching facing outwards, there is only a few materials that I find comfortable to wear. This is so heartbreaking. We had a similar experience but in reverse. My son who was never baptized was getting married to a baptized non active witness. My brother and family refused to attend as did her side of the family. Mind you they were not living together or doing anything that any JW would be doing or not doing. They simply said she is baptized and should not be marrying a non baptized person and they couldn't support it. I asked, do you think by not attending you will encourage these two to start attending meetings again? Don't you thing you will be doing the exact opposite? Doesn't the bible say not to stumble people? My elder brother said it didn't matter and they in fact did not attend and his own brother did not attend as well. Funny thing is he did say once they were married they would attend functions with them present.....WTF???? This caused so much hurt!!! We left this farce of a religion right after....kind of the last straw. They view their man made rules above the love of God and Christ. Stay strong my sister....you have lots of support out here.
Another thing, that guy in court was lying like a rug. I know gb believe that you only tell the truth to those in need to know only. So to lie to the court twice that I've seen (Australia Commission the first time )no respect from me .
your not alone. i just had knee surgery today. and because issue regarding blood came about they were very very Standish off. so they told me ( family) i never told them family my date. which is a lie. so I called a co- worker to drop me off. and she stay until they took me in surgery. so there that's my bitter experience.
Shunned since 15 (baptized at 11), now 45. On the verge of suicide because things do not get better once you leave. However, i don't ever regret leaving. If anything i did matters at least i had a son once..

100% lie that normal family relationships continue only spiritual relationship cease. That is there "PR" response on JW dot ORG. You guys are not even disfellowshipped, dissociated and/or marked. They shun because even though your not those things mentioned above, the BORG needs to control the rank & file and you might say something negative about the org. I'm so sorry for your family, it's very hard not to be able to talk to your blood family. Your poor Aunt said she wished she didnt live. I hope your family watches this. Yes, and it of ones commit suicide... cause for some if you leave the org you and have absolutely no family you become an instant orphan and the mental stress can be so extreme that could lead to suicide. My niece got married a while back and everyone was invited but not my kids and I or my brother. I was very sad, like you. We're not Df'd or DA'd. But they invited a couple who screwed my sister and her husband out of a lot of money in a house sale gone wrong. Loving JW's! Not
I was a Mormon. Not literal shunning but a cold shoulder is their way. And lots and lots of gossip. When you say it’s like you never existed, I get it but is there gossip about those who leave?
Yes JW’s LOVE gossip. Usually the main gossip is talking about other people who are leaving or getting disciplined in the congregation. The reality is that the JW life is boring and dull and gossip is the only thing that keeps them moving forward.

Your aunt is not a JW, but they have the hope of converting her. They use every occassion (unless they are in a liquor store buying Irish Whiskey) to drag folks into the cult. As a mother I would be hurt and I feel your pain. I hope your son and his wife wake up.
A group shunning you is the same as a domestic partner used to abusing and controlling thier partner - reacts when they find out they can no longer can abuse and control them - shunning is aggressive abuse to an individual they can no longer control - So what does that mean - it means everything you were taught from the Bible or God was done from the perspective of an abusive teacher or teachers - so you need to find another teacher or teachers - Next because you were either born or drawn to an abusive group that shunned - you need domestic violence treatment because the cult or gathering of abusers don’t know how to love - and think control is love and if they can’t control or abuse want it dead - like a Cat killing a mouse -- so they pronounce you dead - Because that’s the goal of shunning -- and to say it’s love - worry or anything other than abuse - and believing it’s anything else than aggressive abuse or tryi g to help -, Means your dealing with - abusers - so be thankful your out -

And that the witnesses are all filled with hatred ,and vile speech , Because they have got to be the only ones in the world ,who would do such a horrible thing,! Right??? NO! That is what they would like you to think! We Jehovah’s Witnesses are not the bogeyman as they would have you believe! We are people who love our families, and we love our neighbors! We don’t separate ourselves from society,We hold jobs in the community, we pay our taxes and we are known to be ,for the most part ,honest ,hard working people. It is true that Not all of us live up to all the commands in the Bible, ,but overall , we try to be good , law abiding , and loving people! What these people don’t want to admit ,is that every one of us in the world ,has practice shunning ,at one point or another! Whether we are from another religion, whether we are older or whether we are younger we have all practiced Shunning! For instance ,if you are an employer ,and you fire someone from the workplace for stealing , would you continue to hang around them ? Or would you have them over for dinner, ??. or are they allowed back on the property ,? NO , you shun them ! Or have you ever had a boyfriend or a girlfriend who has cheated on you, and hurt you ? , do you continue to talk to them , or hang out with them? or do you shun them? , do we call them on the phone,or do we avoid them?? Are they allowed over our house anymore? the answer is “NO “, you shun them! Or how about if somebody breaks the law in our society? isn’t it true that, not only do we not talk to them anymore, but we actuly lock them up in little cells, and then we shun them for many years on end ! does that mean we’re bad people because we protect others from them??? NO , it protects the well-being ,and safety of others , and their peace! But ,Oh how horrible of us right!!! Should we be suspicious of those who jail them?? Also when our children are little ,we teach them to Shun others at their school , who might be a bad influence to our children .For instance if one of the children is spreading pornography amongst other children, wouldn’t we advise our child to NOT to hang around them, or talk to them? of course we would, Because it protects the mind of our child,so The hard-core truth, is that we are teaching our children to shun !!! And do we expect the parent to go around and give an explanation of why she is choosing to teach her child to Shun , no! Because we understand she is protecting her family! Should we be suspicious of her for having her children avoid others??? Is she to be considered satanic??? No of course not! Because this is a normal ,and vital element to raising a healthy society ? (that of being able to avoid any ,who would be considered a bad influences on us , or our family). Other who practice shunning are the popular organization “”Alcoholics Anonymous “”this organization will also encourage you to Shun others ,who are continuing to do drugs ,and who are a bad influence on you! Do we think that they are satanic? Do we need them to explain to all of us ,why they are shunning people ? Is there need to be suspicious of them? “NO” , this is how you keep an element of society clean from corruptive influences!! So just so everybody has a better understanding ,about what happens with Jehovah’s Witness shunning ! Something these ex -Jehovah’s Witnesses who are complaining , don’t want you to know is that they had to take about a year ,or so ,in order to go through and study about 2 books, and then at the end of that they have to meet with three elders ,to see if they understood all the requirements, and the seriousness of the commitment ,before they got baptized ,and then if the elders feel that you understand what your doing , then they might allow you to get baptized! You can’t just go down to the local Kingdom Hall and pay $50 and get dunked, it’s a long lengthy process, with lots of study before you can even get baptized So all of these people complaining , have been well informed ,for about over a year’s time ,about what happens when you commit adultery ,or fornication ,or do drugs etc. etc., That’s information that they do not want you to know! Because they don’t want you to find out that they’re peeing, and moaning about something they had a complete, and thorough understanding of! , and they agreed to it in the first place . They also don’t want you to know that if they show true repentance they won’t even get disfellowshipped, they will be forgiven right there on the spot! You either either have to keep doing the wrong ,or show that you just don’t care ,and then they will disfellowshipped you! Something else you should know ,is that Jehovah’s Witnesses did not make up the practice of shunning, The early Christians ,were the first to set the example in this , there was a situation in the first century congregation where a man was having sex ,with his father’s wife, so the apostles told them to remove the man from the congregation, to protect the rest of the flock, Look it up (1st Corinthian’s 5:1-5) But noticed this was a loving arrangement, that was not meant to hurt the man , but only to make him correct his faulty way of thinking , Notice in the second letter to the Corinthians they told him to invite this same man back into the congregation,so that he doesn’t become downhearted ! Look that up as well (2nd .Corinthian’s 2:6,7. ) and that is what Jehovah’s Witnesses do, it is not a permanent situation! After a period of time, he is invited back into the congregation ! In conclusion, I can only tell you what my experience was, about 12 years ago I was disfellowshipped from the Christian congregation ,for something I knew was wrong,And I understood the consequences for my actions, so I didn’t feel like they were being unjust for taking the action of shunning me , I understood that ,thats what I-signed up for !! so I took the punishment,! and I asked them what I could do to get back into the congregation as quick as I can , so they explained to me ,that I just needed to change my behavior, try to make all the meetings ,and to keep up my personal study, etc, So that’s what I did !! and then I was reinstated and back in the congregation within seven months,! and to this day I am thankful for them ,loving me enough ,to correct my bad behavior! So I don’t blame the Jehovah’s Witnesses for correcting me, I think the people complaining here, just had a lack of humility, which we see in our society every day! The Bible actually predicted this at(2nd .Timothy 3:1-5) that was my experience!, thanks Eric !
