It's not quite as bad, but this reminds me of Bionicle, where the Toa found six matching Exo-Toa suits for each of them in an enemy lair and put them on because they thought it was destiny or something, and then later, when they went to fight the main enemies, they were like, "oh, wait these things just weaken us; this way actually a bad idea. Let's just take these off and forget this happened."

It stings less when you find out Atlantis was a shameless ripoff of an anime called Nadia The Secret of Blue Water. Disney basically stole every single thing in Atlantis from that show and the animation studio Gainax was too poor to fight it in court at the time. Give Nadia a watch, it needs more love
