EPISODE 9 | ADDRESSING THE BACKLASH & AN EMOTIONAL BREAKDOWN 

I know everyone is entitled to form their own opinion and that’s what we both signed up for and expected starting a podcast together. BUT this episode was hard.. bc 1 I NEVER want to see winter crying & in my head I wasn’t meaning to be dismissive or emotionally unavailable in moments. I was giving my friend room to speak on HER experience and a space to address everything she felt necessary. Im sorry y’all expected more from me but I can only speak on MY experiences. This is a topic we’ve spoken about privately multiple times… it’s YALL first time hearing it. Some situations and conversations are hard to have (awkward for me that’s why I might crack a joke or 2 lol) and I’m glad the main person that matters the most understood my intentions in the end. There’s a difference on how you apologize “I’m sorry if you feel that” ❌ “I’m sorry I made you feel that way”✅ Even with the apology it still feels dismissive

lesson: validate your friends feelings and take full accountability when you’re in the wrong.

As friends we cannot always relate to our besties problems or issues. But what we CAN do is work hard at comforting them and making site that they felt heard.

I think Chy did the best she could on the topic. She gave winter the space to explain her ethnicity and didnt take the spotlight. But winter also has the right to feel like her friend wasnt there in that moment

I’m thankful for Winter not being fearful of talking about this stuff because it is real and it feels like there isn’t a safe space too

If Winter has BPD it’s really big on them when their feelings are not Validated. At the same time they are dismissive of others feelings when all they can really focus on is their own feelings. When the person they love and is there safe space is not being present when they truly are down, They take it to heart. They feel like they are not important in the moment. It’s all about being heard. But Winter has to understand Chy was letting winter speak. She couldn’t engage because she cant relate to Winter.

This is the reality of friendships! Your friends are not your therapists! Sometimes they don’t have the right words and maybe their own mechanisms towards hard situations manifest themselves in behaviors like Chy’s. Nobody is at wrong here. I swear I’m over people thinking everyone gotta be perfect. No. This podcast is a learning experience for THEIR friendship. We just viewing them go through it.

For Chy, there’s a time and place for everything and I think she needs to realize that a lot of people are watching

This was so raw, and honest. You two are really best friends/sisters. We are all human, and shit happens, miscommunication, misunderstandings and that is OK. That’s what makes y’all real, and how you choose to handle it is what matters. I see tons of love here for one another. ❤

Chy seems emotionally unintelligent which can come off as insensitive but I think she genuinely means well. Winter your feelings are completely valid and many of us birayrays go thru this and become lone wolf: one man army types because of it. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and we learn to stand ten toes down with no community backing us. We literally X-men frfr

Chy is a comedian at heart, she meant no harm. She just regulates situations by finding the light in dark spaces, with humor. I’m the same, I can be extremely empathetic, but not really sympathetic. Aquarian as well ❤

Winter is such a great communicator. She is truly an intelligent woman with depth and you can tell from her speech. She has so much substance & her friend does not mirror that. They probably are a great pairing , I just wish she’d add another host

I can 100% relate to you Winter! Thank you for being a voice for us and articulating yourself so well. It is such a hard thing to speak on because a lot of people just don’t get it. You said it perfect in another video you did, I’m not black or white. I’m mixed I’m biracial I’m both! Idk why that’s so hard for people to understand but it’s highly frustrating. And it’s not said to knock either race or not fully claim one or the other, it’s just what it is! But you truly are a voice for many people who feel the exact same way and I appreciate that so much!

The entire pod I felt like Chy was being so very dismissive and flippant about the topic. Being on her phone, talking about the retainer, kinda throwing her hands up like welp idk laughing, etc. literally not responding at times. I was waiting for her to be more validating, and just adding to what winter was saying and it didn’t come…until the end. I felt bad for Winter truly and although I can’t exactly relate as a black woman I fully understand what she is saying and where she is coming from. I couldn’t imagine not having a community of black people to go to events with, advocate for me, support me or simply just understand/validate my struggles …there is just so much that could have been added to the conversation on Chy’s side as a black woman regardless just on the strength of the importance of this topic. I wasn’t surprised when Winter reacted the way she did but I’m glad they talked it out and Chy apologized

Chy being an Aquarius makes so much sense because it's hard for us to deal with people crying & being emotional, even if we truly do care about what you are going through. And it comes Off as detached & dismissive.

You don’t have to be emotional to be emotionally supportive. I feel sooo awkward in these situations but logically, you can realize what’s actually important in that moment and act accordingly for people you care about.

I can truly respect your vulnerability and passion to get your sentiment across.. I’m not biracial and I definitely learned a lot from this .. Thanks for being vulnerable and actually coming back and being honest .. no one is perfect and I think we all know Chy loves her friend and tried to understand I think she just doesn’t know the experience so it can be hard to relate but they’ll grow from this as friends I’m sure 🩷🩷 Love you ladies 🩷🩷

I feel like this podcast gonna end up getting deleted…but I feel bad for chy as well. She didn’t know what to say and I think that’s ok. When our friends come to us with situations we can’t relate to or understand we all be lost.

Winter was really venting and I can see how she can see how chy was not taking is serious by checking her phone or being dry when responding but also chy also stated like we all have our own experiences and go thru our own stuff. Awww you guys 😞 I really want to come through this screen and give you both the biggest hug. OBVIOUSLY these are 2 young women who care deeply for each other. These type of conversations are hard to have and awkward and so incredibly complex. Hopefully chy can look into it why exactly she feels somewhat uncomfortable with this conversation, and winter can experience some peace and receive love and support and acceptance. I love yall

the difference when chy vents, winter responds back to everything but when it’s winter in a vulnerable place venting, she’s quite or not really paying attention. if your not in a place to hear someone out, then just don’t show up

As someone who has followed Winter for yeeears I cannot believe she is still going through this. I hate it. I was raised to treat people the way I want to be treated. Too many people have forgotten that lesson.

Thank you for this, Winter. As a biracial person I can relate to all of your frustrations and also the importance of vocalizing our experience. It’s a conversation that needs to be had. ❤

I feel like Chy handled it really well. Winter seems kind of confusing because at times she very much does shrug stuff off with humor and so Chy did that. Now winter takes a different approach and I can see how that confused Chy. Like sis how do you want to handle it. Chy is just trying to support ya. Ease up on her 🫶🏼

I love how Winter can explain how she feels to Chy without being harsh about it. However, being on the phone while speaking about a serious topic would make me mad, too. But, it’s nice that Chy apologized and asked her why she was sad to understand in depth what she did wrong

this was easily my favorite episode. i felt winter to the core and thank you for speaking up. i had the same problems growing up and not feeling accepted. my father was hispanic but WHITE WHITE with green eyes and when he would pick me up from school all my friends would say he wasn’t my father, i was this and i was that. i had a girl threaten to cut my ponytail off on the bus because my hair was long and she was serious and its a core memory for me 20 plus years later. im glad you showed this side of you and even to your own friend chy. i felt where you were coming from with her being dismissive and not responding with compassionate responses even if she hasn’t gone through it personally. its amazing to be accepted by your community but for you to have such a hard life AND not being accepted and constantly trolled about it too. i couldn’t imagine. as hard as it is continue advocating cuz the people that hear it and ride for you are going to continue too and we grow in numbers the more you continue! thank you for such a heartfelt podcast episode🫶🏽

Awe I love Chy but the she seemed dismissive. When she was like “I’ve been spreading false info, I didn’t know your grandparents were both black” was kinda a slap in the face. They are inseparable so it seems like she should know that knowing she’s met her grandmother and seen pictures. Even if she really didn’t know I don’t think she should have said that it kind of seems like she’s not backing her up all the way :( maybe it’s just me, but if I was in winter’s situation that probably would have hurt my feelings. She did seem a little bothered by it

I am Mexican as can be and I almost cried listening to this episode. I have a sister who would have had the exact same reaction as Chai because sometimes your best friends/sisters don’t know how to respond to something that affects you so deeply. I see those same sister traits in both of you. I can see how much you both care for each others feelings. Not everyone is as level headed as you both to be able to talk through hard conversations like these and especially not in the public eye. Thank you for being real, please never change and this is a breath of fresh air 💗

I don’t think Chy was disassociating, I think she genuinely could not relate and did not know what to say. I can also relate to constantly making jokes when people get emotional and they’re always generally joking with one another so I can see why Chy was confused

Yesss thank you winter for being a voice. 💯being Mexican and Italian born in Louisiana I’m a caramel brown skin tone with brown curly hair, so I can definitely relate. People mistake my race all the time for other races. My entire life I always have said I’m not Mexican enough for the Mexican people and I’m not Italian enough for the Italian people. 🙃Not speaking both languages perfectly and looking different I’ve been picked on by my own races for it so winter is 💯% right I always wondered if other biracial people felt the same way, so thank you so much winter because it is a sensitive topic. Winter, just stop publicly showing people how deeply this effects you. Sensible adults see that you’re mixed clear as day. It’s such a juvenile insult at this point. To fight and conquer all battles is to show indifference. Work through your triggers privately and never give someone who intentions are to HURT you SEE exactly that or they will attack again and again, which is why they do !

Winter went hard & I kind of feel bad for Chy because the vibe was already off from the beginning. Winter dismissed chys feelings about their little argument and aggressively said she wouldnt have apologized, which already made chy upset & uncomfortable. So now Chy is forced to sit with Winter through an episode that has nothing to do with her & all to do with winters feelings & emotions, while trying to keep herself calm & professional for the show, which is probably why Winter didnt get the round of applause she was hoping for after she was done with her speech. I feel the resentment Chy is holding against winter this episode. I hope theres no upcoming fall out between the two 😬 Im shocked the fallout happened so fast. Winter dosent realize that she dismissed Chy in the beginning first. YOU ALREADY SET CHY OFF! To expect her to feel for you after being mean to her is not okay.

I definitely was getting “well I don’t have that issue and if I do I don’t pay it any attentions cause it isn’t a big deal”. The entire time I was getting a passive aggressive vibe from chy as if winter is being dramatic or over exaggerating. LOVE THIS PODCAST. Love you both.

I totally feel Winter during this episode. I think because Winter was so vulnerable, it was frustrating that Chy wasn't reading the room and I know what that feels like. Even though the topic is unrelatable to me, I think Winter would have appreciated it if Chy was vulnerable about how it makes her feel as a friend of someone going through this emotional turmoil online. I also think it was obvious that Chy was checked out by being on her phone and commenting about Winter's retainer (in addition to the "black queen" joke). Obviously, Chy wasn't coming from a malicious place and I adore them both. But it was definitely a series of things that made Winter break down and I appreciate Chy apologizing and taking accountability for being dismissive.🤍

I started crying with winter cause it’s so sad , as a mixed women myself it is hurt full . I felt the “ oh well” vibe from chy too and i really like her . But Like at the end of the day we know who we are but it’s sad when u feel like u have no one to back u on who u are as a person & what’s important . Just don’t let it get to you babe . Love Chy but I understand why winter walked away because it’s like she was having the conversation by herself. Been following Winter ever since BGC and as a viewer IM TIRED! She has countlessly been open about her being biracial and it’s like you can’t win for losing. The easy way out would be to say your white since your white passing. But your being true to yourself and saying who you are. This is why I still follow. All of this it truly beautiful. This is true vulnerability, transparency. This is a mirror reflection of the parts of ourselves that we continue to deny because of the way this world portrays sensitivity to be. It is okay to not be okay. It is okay to cry and to no longer deny the fact that you are a victim, which is somebody who has been hurt because of the actions of someone else. Our sensitivity and vulnerability does NOT make us weak and how dare people in society think that they actually have power over somebody who reacts or responds to an action that they chose to do to intentionally hurt you. It's not right and both of your feelings are valid. Chy was meant to respond this way so that you can have this breakthrough my love. Winter..I support you! As a lighter complexion, black woman. I’ve experienced similar things. I have mixed grandparents on both sides. I should’ve never have to prove my “blackness “ to my peers .Just the ignorance behind race is ridiculous. My son is biracial. He has blonde hair and blue eyes. He doesn’t look a lick a black. I really appreciate watching this video. I don't feel like Chy needed to say more than what she did and I think a lot of us biracial people feel like we need to be saved.. but it isn't chy's place to be your savior. I love how you kept checking in with her and she shared her experience of having sisters and family that are of different complexion. This goes to the notion that black really does come in different shades. And to your point, it is really tough trying to find a community when the communities have such a morbid history. It almost feels like having to emotionally micromanage when in each setting when the politics of race comes up in any social setting. Every day I unlearn my own self-hate and I want to do it for my lineage. I desire to break my own generational curses and I think doing my part in all of this will be helpful. Thank you for being encouraged to stand in your experience.. it's real. I don't think we know how to really address it just yet, but it will be done love. Thank you ladies for being so raw.

I’m actually tired of the braindead takes on Chy. She clearly loves and supports Winter. However, she is a black woman and identifies as that. She cannot piggy back off of something she hasn’t experienced when she clearly states she isn’t a biracial woman. A southern black girl at that so she isn’t just going to go agreeing left and right, she too has a reputation to uphold (again as a black woman) so she is probably being careful with her reactions and words on certain topics. Also, what exactly was she supposed to say other than what she already did? What reaction did y’all want from her exactly? It doesn’t take away from her love and empathy that she isn’t sounding like y’all in the comments.

I feel bad for winter her demeanor is in constant defense mode maybe it would be best for her to take a break from social media since that’s the main source of her constantly getting bullied, or attacked…and She can’t expect Chy to understand exactly how Wynter feels as she’s mentioned before that she doesn’t deal with what winter deals with so it’s hard for her to really know what up…

This is the realest episode on here. I feel generally neutral - I can’t relate to Winters experience but I could understand how chy came off kinda dismissive and apathetic, but I also think she truly didn’t have anything to add and was being goofy. You both have had very different experiences but please don’t delete this. I appreciate the genuine conversation.
