Your distinction between "the look at me business" vs. "the look at my work business" opened my eyes. I usually associate memorable scenes only to the actors who performed them, now I will also appreciate all the other people who made that scene possible. This is not exact quote but the sentiment seems apt. "Who will follow me to the end? At my funeral my possessions will stay at home and my people might come to the edge of my grave, but my future work will go into the ground with me." I enjoy television and movies, so surely I've enjoyed your past work over the years. Thank you for your work.

Been watching some of your interviews across other channels and I’m struck by how consistent your perspective on screenwriting is. Sometimes it’s helpful to hear the same thing in a couple different places (even if it’s from the same person). Great video as always

You are 1000% correct. I’ve been a producer for 20+ years and although there are some real producers the majority don’t know anything about story and god forbid actually study filmmaking it’s the reason why the business especially in TV has changed NWP are nobody anymore. The days of making money as producer in TV without writing are OVER. Writers hold ALL the power in TV now And film is following that model. That’s why the more successful producers in film lock themselves in with big name writer/ directors. I honestly believe producing in its traditional sense will no longer exist in 10yrs.
@TheGoDraft
@TheGoDraft 2 месяца назад
You may be right. I was a creative producer, not a line producer or money-raising producer, so my expertise on the latter is limited. The business is in a state of flux now, but then it always has been. As long as people want good filmic entertainment (and there's nothing to suggest that has waned), there will be a need for what creative people do.

Thats interesting because i just watched patton about 12 hours before your video came up and i thought about those lines all glory is fleeting once again like i have done the many times ive watched it over the years. I remember seeing bon jovi interviewed about his work with the hollywood machine/business and he said the suits in hollywood do not care about what you did for them last week, they only care about what are you are going to do for them next week. It is interesting that for the most part, the people who actually build a movie, go unknown, much like those that build big skyscrapers. There will be a plaque or a book that talks about the great architect or money men that built the building, but you wont find a list of names of the people who walked the I beams or did the welding where one misstep could cause them to fall to their death. But yeah, award shows, i mean if they aint handing out free booger sugar, whats the point in showing up?
@TheGoDraft
@TheGoDraft 4 месяца назад
Yes, it's always good to remember that the people who get the awards are just the tip of the creative iceberg.
@izabelakline113

Life itself is fleeting. It reminds me of the end of "They Died With Their Boots" and as Errol Flynn as Custer walks away to his doom at Little Big Horn, his love Olivia De Haviland slumps down against the wall, cinema's most elegant fainting scene.

I totally agree. I really hate award ceremonies. I used to pride myself on watching the Oscars every year - But for the last maybe 10 years I haven't watched them. I think it skews the personal meaning I have with the artform of filmmaking. I once expressed my distaste for it to a colleague - I think after I won something - and they told me that they're important for career growth for emerging talent. And I think that maybe true.
@TheGoDraft
@TheGoDraft 4 месяца назад
Yes, I suppose - but too often awards reward and encourage the wrong people for the wrong things. Again, though, it's all fun, just silly.

Thanks. Lots. I've watched every video, enjoyed how you presented them, and learned from each. At the end of the Awards show, I was struck by how you said, "bye." I have one question: Why the huge [photo/model] pencil in the b.g.? p.s. By god, I'd gladly pay to watch future lessons!
@TheGoDraft
@TheGoDraft 3 месяца назад
Ha ha. Yes, it's an actual huge pencil. No reason except someone gave it to me because they thought it was funny, and it sort of is. I appreciate you saying you'd pay for what I'm doing, abd I used to get paid (a very little bit) by UCLA and Pepperdine, and I do charge when I consult personally -- but it's important to me that I give away my knowledge. It's freeing.

Thank you, very interesting. It would be interesting to get an opinion on the difference between a movie and a TV show. And I also had the thought that everyone is always talking about how to make a movie, but no one has tried to say how it should not be made. I.e. it would be interesting to see a video on exactly how the story wouldn't work. What you have to do to ruin a scene or story, destroy the suspense, etc. I.e. we take a scene, add some common rookie mistake to it and show how that detail destroys it. I mean the most common mistakes A guide on how to make the worst movie ever. And by the way, I can only see episodes 2 and 8 if I turn on my vpn.

Wow!!! INT. OSCAR AWARDS - NIGHT Andy Guerdat, Stephen Fry, and Ricky Gervais walk up the stage. The once blinding, vain twinkle of the smug stars in the crowd fades out. A rush of awe surges. It outshines the worn-off bright of perplexed celebrities. Tangible silence -- Anticipation fills the room. In the audience, Jacob Michael smirks. Fetches Jim Carrey's glance and blinks at him -- They both nod. SMASH TO: INT. BACKSTAGE - NIGHT A man in a suit, bound and GAGGED -- Sitting on a chair, all tied up. JIMMY KIMMEL Ummmhh... Uhmmm... Umm... CUT TO BLACK. ================================= =============================== ============================== You're welcome! Now get back to writing -- or finishing Andy's series. Cheers!!!
