My friend was diagnosed with this cancer a year ago, it was in her blood vessels/arteries. She had surgery to remove it 9 months after diagnosis. She was recovering well but then in April this year she got worse and it was found that her doctors missed some of removing the mass that was in her leg, she went into a coma and passed away the day after she went into a coma. It was aggressive and devastating. I’m trying to find all the info on this specific cancer to learn what happened and why it was so aggressive

I’m so very sorry for your loss. There is an epithelioid hemangioendothelioma Facebook patient support group. You may find additional info and support there. Best wishes for peace and healing to you and your friend’s family members.

Oh, no, so sorry to hear that. I had that in my right leg/inner thigh muscle. But the doctor called it low grade. Not benign, but definitely not aggressive either. Your friend may have had the angio-sarcoma type. I think it's more agressive. Mine was the ephitelioid hemangio-endothelioma, a semi solid brown mass, all localized in my thigh muscle and grew to a pound over the span of three years. Had it surgically removed about 17 months ago. I'm ok, but have stiffness and some limitations in my leg function due to the piece of muscle they removed from my thigh. It took months of physio and rehabilitation, my balance was bad for a while. I'm better now, still cannot bend my leg enough , and have issues with my back because of the way I walked and stuff, but definitely grateful to be alive. Thank God. I hope it never comes back.

I found out yesterday my mother in law has this. Had a spot growing on her forehead, tested positive for EHE cancerous tumour. Hoping they got it all from the skin but they are going to do scans to check there’s nothing else.

I’m so sorry to hear this. There is a wonderful patient support group for EHE on Facebook. You both might consider joining. I’ve been volunteering there for years now. It’s a good place for emotional support and general info. facebook.com/groups/EHEcancer/?ref=share

Sir.. Thanks for info....How to differentiate between an epithelioid heamangioendothelioma and epithelioid angiosarcoma?
@JMGardnerMD
@JMGardnerMD 4 года назад
Epithelioid angiosarcoma usually has some blood filled vascular channels while EHE usually has only nests cords with no vascular channels (an exception is the uncommon YAP1-TFE3 variant of EHE). Also, epithelioid angiosarcoma usually has marked cytologic atypia and looks frankly malignant; it can closely mimic melanoma or poorly differentiated carcinoma. In difficult cases, Immunostain for CAMTA1 and/or molecular testing for WWTR1-CAMTA1 or YAP1-TFE3 fusion can make a more definitive distinction.
