On a recent trip to see family we visited this local heritage railway on a very quiet Saturday in early September 2023. It is run by a very friendly team of staff and volunteers. All details, costs and timetables are available on their website:

Lots of hard work all round! They were even polishing the loco in North Weald while changing ends.

They deserve more customers! Everything clean as a whistle, and a great collection of locos! Certain it was a merlin, but I thought it was a Hurricane

They do indeed. Really friendly team too - we spent 20mins in the signal box chatting. You might be right - I didn’t get a close look unfortunately, but it sounded great and turned up at the perfect moment!

Most likely a dual seat spitfire owned by Aero Legends doing pleasure flights from North Weald airfield. The also offer Tigermoth, Harvard and BAC Strike Master flights.

@@kirkandbear no worries, I'm a yocal and actually work the ale train bars sometimes. Great vid btw, the Diesel Gala is usually an excellent event and was just two weeks ago.

I see you travelled between Ongar and North Weald. When is it planned to open the whole line to Epping?

Hi, and thanks for getting in touch. I’m not sure to be honest - the website suggests that they run a vintage bus service on to Epping, but we didn’t use it on the day that we visited. It would be nice if it went a bit further thought - the end of the line was at a bridge but without a station once we passed through North Weald. All the best, K&B 👋

Seems like you only go past North Weald on the DMU to give the Steam Loco a chance to swap ends :-) Still very good though.
