Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion - the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me - from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

Great video Ron and Tom. I’m 71 yrs. young, and a reloader. I had the same incident happen to me about 30 yrs. ago Ron. I went to the bench and had limited time to shoot my 7mm-08 and 25-06, both 700 Rem. Had both guns and amo on the bench, because of limited time I was shooting 3 shots and switching guns. I had reloaded amo, both with nickel brass. Through my hurrying I accidentally chambered a 7mm-08 in my 25-06, squeezeing the trigger it went click ! I have never had one of my reloads miss fire so I was puzzled as to what was wrong. I run the bolt and realized what I’d done, you could have knocked me over with a feather ! Thank goodness the 700 action is a push feed and the 7mm-08 went far enough into the chamber to avoid a primer strike. I had a guardering angel looking out for me that morning ! You can never be to careful

I also grew up watching "The American Sportsman" with Curt Gowdy and Grits Gresham every week. Boy, I am old! It was fun for a Florida boy to see what folks were doing in other parts of the world. Great podcast, Ron.

Great talk with a Grisham, one of the great names in American field sport. I sincerely hope you get back to enjoying your photography. Your pictures are what first drew me to your work. You and Mr. Grisham gave some fine tips on taking pictures here.

This was Great. Couple quick Good Luck on the Nula Hunt. RECOIL- RON,You mentioned a self built bench,TOM asked about a standing up using sticks etc. Maybe both of you could do show on " Building Your Shooting Poistion" Especially when Practicing...Recoil is one big reason. I found out as you did Ron siting upright at the bench,not all bent out of shape keaning over etc etc .Not only is more comfortable ( if not comfortable ya cant hit#^$÷) But reduces recoil.. Too many go to ranges or use beaches built for 1 size fits all.Forgeting they can often at ranges adjust the seat to suit. Or Use Bags to rsise rifle up. Etc I have shot off 4 to 5 bags, Sand bags from old shot bags, high front so can sit more comfortable. Carry on N God Bless

Thanks for a good podcast.A stand up shooting bench is great,I built one to regulate double rifles using regular sand bags.With forend hand in front bag recoil is tamed considerably and the rifles regulation stays true.

I love this disussion. I tell folks this exact thing all the time. Buy what you know is going to shoot well at the distances you need to . Choose a decent round to complement your rifle and shoots a good 3/4 " group at that range . Pratice tons and it really doesnt mater what cal it is. Maybe the exception would be dangerous game. 270 , 308 , 7mm mag , 30-30 ,243 ,223 ,300 wim mag all kill the same at 100 to 200yrds . Bullet placement is king a clean shot im the boiler room from most centerfires is going to get game .

Hi Ron, im from Australia and have seen a few videos on other channels about there is a new caliber that the USA military have acquired, do you have anymore info on this and do you think this new calibre will make it into domestic use and in bolt action as we cant have auto riffles. Love the content and have learnt so much from watching your show. Thanks Cameron Cormack

Cameron, the new military 6.8x51mm Common Cartridge is already chambered in the Sig Cross bolt action rifle and marketed as the .277 Fury. It's basically a 308 Win. necked down to take .277" bullets, but at chamber pressures of 80,000 psi. The case combines a steel head with a brass upper body. Whether traditional rifle actions will be able to handle these pressures remains to be seen.

Hi Ron, I'm not a hunter and I haven't fished in a very very long time. But I'll catch a video of yours every now and again and I was curious about your age so, I looked on google and guess what I found? Before I tell you, if any part of the article is true, You are just about 20 years older than me I'm 63, turning 64 this year. Now, according to the article, you died in 2020 at the age of 79. So not only did you gain 5 years on your age, you died back in 2020 at the age of 79. Just thought I'd let you know you look damn good for being dead for the last 4 years.

banning semi autos and military style rifles is common sense actually, the constitution based on responsible adults and single shots. AKs and AR15s lol. great process practice by Tom and experience by you both.
@tkalus5736
@tkalus5736 17 дней назад
Do you plan on banning semi autos and military style rifles from the various government agencies that use them? I didn't think so. I don't remember reading anything about responsible adults or single shots in the Constitution. I do recall a prohibition on the government making any infringement.
@charlessmith4242
@charlessmith4242 17 дней назад
* Will the military do the same? Might want to rethink what you perceive our constitution is based upon. The 2A is was not written to insure our right to go hunting, but rather to counter the threat of destroying our country, our way of life, both from outside and from within, from enemies that would try and impose their will upon the citizenry of our country.
