Elmora School #12 and John Dwyer Technical Academy hosted approximately fifty AVID District Directors in an Advanced District Leadership Training session. Participants represented AVID schools from across the country. In 2018-2019 School 12 and Dwyer each achieved the distinction of being named an AVID National Demonstration School. They will hold this designation for three years with one of their primary responsibilities being the utilization of their schools as a training and learning center for other practitioners of the AVID system.Today’s session began with Melissa Kulick , Principal of School 12 and Sulisnet Jimenez Principal of Dwyer sharing with participants their journey in reaching demonstration site status. This was followed by classroom walkthroughs with a focus on identifying effective AVID methodologies and strategies. The day ended with a question and answer session led by teachers and students. Both schools look forward to hosting another training in the near future.
