Back in 2019 when I got my Kia Niro EV, one feature that was available to activate or deactivate was the 12V battery tender. This was a silly thing to be able to deactivate, was removed in 2020, but some people wanted to know how to turn the feature back on, or how to turn it off, so I had made this video to show them.
Let me know if you want me to show you how to configure something specific and I will see what I can do.

Your 2021 Niro EV will have more in common with my EV6 menus, so you should enjoy those clips when they start coming out as of next week. Thanks for watching.

I recently bought Kia e Niro 2020 and it is my first electric car. Did not anything about fases and its fase 1 charge car. It takes 13-14 hours for a 90% charge (takes 3,6 kw on local street charges) and 41 kw on speed chargers. Is there a way I can upgrade only the charging section to fase 3? Or any tips n tricks to make it charge fast? Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Congratulations on your e-Niro, it is a greata car. The speed of charging is determined by the charging station you connect to. At home I suggest having a 240V Level 2 charging station installed. When using a level 2 charging station you will be able to charge the car in 7 to 10 hours, depending on 80, 90, or 100%, and if you start at 10%. If you use a DC Fast charger, the speed is determined by both the charger and the car. The e-Niro has a maximum DC fast charging speed of 77kW. This means that you should try to use 100kW DC fast chargers to get the most speed when charging. With all of that being said, there are several factors that can affect charging speed with any charging station: - Temperature: If the battery is very cold then the charging speed will be slower than when it is at an optimal temperature to charge (25C). This means that a battery at -10C will take time to warm up to 25C before the speed can be at its maximum. - State of charge: If the battery is below 10% or above 80%, then the speed will be slower. All cars have what is called a charging curve programmed into the battery management system. This is designed to protect the battery and extend its life. If the battery is warm and is at 20%, if you connect to a 100kW fast charger, you will notice that it will peak at 77kW early in the charge, but will step the speed down as it reaches certain levels of charge. The higher the level the slower the charge will become. Also to note, charging above 80% on a DC fast charger is not recommended because the speed drops considerably, making it expensive for nothing. Above 80% you are better off driving to the next DC fast charger on the route for the next charging session. I hope this helps.

Thanks, in Canada use km/h and not mp/h? Greets from Spain.

Correct, in Canada we use the metric system for everything except construction materials.

@@EV-olution Oh Dear. So, does this mean that all Brick Shit Houses are imperial? (3ft W x 4ft D x 6ft H + vented door). "EQ How-To 001 - 2019 Kia Niro EV Battery Saver+" was so brief, and without sound, I almost missed it. I have a Nissan Leaf (2015) in the UK and its 12V battery has never missed a beat - it doesn't have a "Battery Saver+" option available. And, how good are the Main Beam Headlights on the Kia EV6 in the dark? Mike

@@mikeyonwin8195 all EVs with a 12V lead acid battery have a version of Battery Saver+, they just don't have a menu option for it because there is not need. This is why Kia and Hyundai removed it from the menus in the 2020 model year. The Leaf also maintains the 12V battery from the high voltage battery, you just don't have anything showing it. As for the Kia EV6 headlights, they are more than fine.

The 12V battery is a problem in many models of Kia and Hyundai EVs. You can monitor the 12V battery with the same module I use to monitor mine. I bought this one on Amazon: amzn.to/4cOUSrw

Greetings mate. Could you explain what this function does exactly? Thank you
@EV-olution
@EV-olution Год назад
The Battery Saver+ is essentially the equivalent of an alternator in a gas car. It maintains the 12V battery charge at a safe level by charging it with power from the high voltage battery. The advantage in an electric car is that the 12V battery is also maintained when the car is powered off. If you have a Niro EV, if you see an orange light on the top of the dashboard lit up, that is the 12V battery being charged. I hope this clears it up and thanks for watching.

I check my 2018 soul ev but no luck . 😢
@EV-olution
@EV-olution Год назад
The 2018 Soul EV does not have this option in the menu, it is a physical switch in the fuse panel under the dash. It should never be turned off though, just like Battery Saver+ should never be turned off, which is the reason Kia removed the menu in the 2020 Niro EV. So you aren't missing anything, you car maintains the 12V battery as it should.
