Equal Cost Multipath Routing (ECMP) is a new feature added to PAN/OS version 7.1 that enables the firewall to use up to four equal-cost routes to the same destination. Without this feature, if there are multiple equal-cost routes to the same destination, the virtual router will use only one of those routes unless there is a failure. In this light board presentation, you will learn the benefits of deploying ECMP, and review a basic topology of how to configure ECMP in your network.

very good video, especially for only 5k views, the one down vote must have been some juniper employee

Very good presentation, but, what about the returning packets from the router that directly connect the 13.13.13.0 subnet??? is it the same situation ??

Great question. ECMP has an optional setting for symmetric return

How to define hash seed? The value can have 9 digits. However, how these digits work to ramdomize. Is there any formula?

This link or this link 6:44, pointing same direction. what do you mean exactly?

ECMP allows you to use multiple routing paths with equal cost. There are 4 ECMP options: IP Modulo: Tries to balance the number of sessions IP Hash: Tries to balance the number of sessions (port aware) Round Robin: Alternates ever other link Weighted Round Robin: Alternates unequally (e.g. 2 over link A, 1 over link B, 2 over link A, 1 over link B...)

Two 100mb links in series are not 200mb. It is still 100mb. The lowest common denominator must be the determining factor in circuits in series.

Does he have to write everything backwards for this glass effect to work? or do they just reverse it in post?

thanks for asking, but they just reverse it.

I have a query, what happens when an ecmp member carrying a session fails due to an outage, will the session failover to other ecmp member seamless or will that session break? Thanks.

Traffic dynamically shifts to another ECMP member to the same destination if a link fails. In any routing failover mechanisms the session will break. I do not think they document how long it takes as there could be other external factors. In most cases it should be in matter of seconds rather than minutes.

Man, I understood! It's just a piece of transparent glass. Behind the glass is the camera that shoots the video. After shooting it mirrors the video. So the guy is actually right-handed!
