To all parents: I think it’s a good thing when you take your kids with you to the vet; however, you are paying the Vet(s) to take care of your animals, not your kid(s). It is extremely distracting for any professional to have their attention split between a child’s ongoing questions/comments about the care of the animal by them (the vet), to taking care of the medical needs of the animal (in this instance a horse).
Every vet that I have ever spoken to and worked with, loved it when kids showed a genuine interest in their work. I've never once seen a vet get upset, or even annoyed, by a child asking questions. Most of them would try to involve the child in the procedure if they could. This is how the next generation of vets gets started.
@@ninjakitty4228 It’s called I am earning my keep by seeing this person’s pet, so I must put up with their children’s non- stop questions without showing how annoying it is to do it. It’s also ridiculous that a Vet would try to involve a child in the procedure, if they could. What procedure would that be? I’ve never seen a vet do that. Also, children can and do learn by observing. It’s a matter of knowing and respecting other people’s boundaries.
@@shawnaweesner3759 I don't know what kind of grump you are, or what kind of grumpy vets you've worked with, but every single vet I have worked with has genuinely enjoyed having children around asking questions and showing interest. And when I say worked with, I don't just mean vets who have seen my pets. I worked in vet med and rescue for years. I have worked at two clinics, the SPCA, and an independent rescue organization which had a part time vet on staff. They were all the same. Even our most gruff vet we had, a large animal vet, perked right up when there were kids around. And yes, they do things like let the kids listen with the stethoscope, hold items like depressors, gauze, look through the otoscope, fetch items from the house or barn. We even had vets who would take the kids back to look at samples under the microscope, show them x-rays of other patients so they could see the interior workings of animals. None of the vets I've worked with ever had an issue with asking for kids to stand back or having parents remove them when they felt it was necessary for safety, concentration, or to avoid the kids seeing anything that wouldn't be appropriate. As a general rule, most people like children, especially people who have made it their life's mission to help the most innocent of creatures. And, also as a general rule, people tend to appreciate when others show an active interest in their work and knowledge.
Strongly disagree. I've worked in vet med since 2017 and I have never once met a child who was not incredibly respectful towards us while we worked on their family pets. Believe it or not, they understand we are doing important work and when it is and isn't appropriate to ask questions. The ones who do interrupt and create distractions from time to time are, in fact, the adult owners. The kid in the video (and adult too for that matter) was nothing but respectful. Furthermore, explaining what you're doing is part of the job. We do it all the time, every day, to demystify and make everything less scary and more easy to digest for the owner. If the procedure is really sensitive, requiring your undivided attention, you don't do it with the owner present.
Why would you not cover her eye so she didn't have to be traumatized with a hammer. You vets seems to not think about the aftermath and just plow through stuff regardless.
