Wolverine's claws are in between his Ulna and Radius Another Edit: In the comics, Wolverine's claws were an attachment he could wear, they then updated his anatomy to where his claws come from muscles in between his Ulna and Radius

Youre edit is wrong, its a popular misconception. He always had internal claws but originally they where implanted. It wasnt until 1993 when magnito ripped his metal out that it was revealed they where bone underneath. When coming up with the character the idea of attachable claws where floated around in the early conceptuals but never implamented. This misconception is so wide spread that even the google AI thinks its true...but its not. People simply thought this because of the protruding metal on the gloves.

Funny that you mention expanding the metal from Wolverine's body during the rebar scene. The comic panel that the rebar is a reference to does exactly that. Magneto effectively liquifies the adamantium and removes it thru his open wounds. He did survive somehow, but it was thanks to Jean who held his body in together with her powers and his healing factor went into overdrive so much that afterwards it stopped working for a while.

In the comics, his arms don’t have sheathes to store and guide his claws. When he pops them, they tear their way through his forearm muscles and out the top of his fists and when retracted, because of his healing factor, are forced to tear their way back in (often times in media, his growling when he pops them is a growl of pain). For this reason, he often, continuously pops them to keep the wounds fresh to make it easier and less painful to pop and retract them in battle

Yes, you could do quite a bit of damage to him by just expanding the metal in his body, but he would heal from that. He filled him with heavy metals instead and launched him into the water because not only would it kill him, but every time he would revive he would die again before he could do anything so he is basically dealt with so long as nobody else helps him out of the water.

In the comics and cartoons, Wolverine’s healing factor is directly tied to another iconic ability of his. If he takes too much damage at once, or if he takes continuous damage over an extended period of time, his healing factor will actually go into overdrive and make him temporarily invulnerable. But as a side effect, while Wolverine is in this state of invulnerability, he goes completely crazy and can’t tell friend from foe. This is his Berserker Rage ability. Have you encountered anything similar to a berserker rage in your career, Dr. Wagner, where a patient is so insane with rage that they literally can’t feel physical pain anymore?
