I’m aware that I’m a little late to this reaction. He was erased from the opening because he spent his entire life in a coma and thus he was “erased” from everyone else’s lives.

By the way if you want to watch more Erased there is a live action version available now on Netflix (in Japanese with English subs). Apparently it’s more like the manga- the premise and setup are the same, but there are enough plot differences to perhaps make it worthwhile, including a different ending.

Great job again. On the one hand I agree that it does a lot of thing really well. The nature and background of the killer, as well as the inherent criticisms of the justice system among them. On the other even though the mystery isn't the main point of the show it was just a bit too unsubtle, that candy scene in the car kinda gave the whole ball game away in a silly way.

@Ed Kalumba it was kind of the point, seeing a town where satoru didn't exist, we know kayo waited for around 3 years for saturo to wake up, but his mother told she to live her life, satoru had sacrificed his life span so that her, aya, and hiromi could have a future. satoru was erased so they could be happy

I’ll explain the teachers backstory because they didn’t really go into detail in the anime. It’s been a while since I read it but basically the teacher had a brother who beat him up and forced him to do things. Once they got older the brother would have the teacher help him get girls for the brother to rape. One time the brother accidentally killed the girl and had the teacher cover it up. That was I guess the teachers first victim? He found it was so easy to cover up after killing and became addicted. Also the anime mentioned that the teacher kept spice because it had survived for three hours, it left out the part where it talks about spice using the bodies of the other hamsters to float and survive.

The dialogue changes they make in the dub are really jarring and in most cases significantly worse than the original dialogue. That last line from Satoru was noticeably off and not good. In the original he just says, "Yashiro... I have... My memories back!" That is way more dramatic than tagging on "you son of a bitch". The unnecessary swearing and stuff is just... Out of place. The sub's voice acting is a lot better too. That's not to say the dub is bad. It's pretty good. Definitely above average! But still worse. That they didn't change the voice actor for the teacher after 15 years was also kind of weird. Something they did correctly in the sub. Either way, glad to see more of these reactions! Just one more to go!

Yeah. For me it depends on which is better for that particular show, not just blindly liking only dub or only sub. In this case... The sub is just better.

I'm glad they didn't do the cheesy "after all these years, she is still single and waited for him." He went into a coma went they were 11. She moved on with her life. That is a far more realistic approach.

Their relationship is better explained in the manga. In the manga, she isn't carted off to her grandma's and instead sticks around., so you can see how their relationship is

Amis can´t live without insults...of course in the American dubbing Satoru´s mom calls the photographers "assholes" and Satoru says "I remember...you son of the bitch"! The rest of the world can talk like humans and doesn´t need that bullshit.

Imo that ending kinda ruined it . Most of the fun in a mystery show is the mystery itself and how it's revealed . The teacher being the killer gave me blue balls .
