I've used each of them 100+ times. It's close, but if I could only have one it would definitely be ErgData. I find ErgData easier to program and I can and often do use "Just Row". Something I'd like to point out is the ErgData screens are easily customizable with a long finger push on any of the fields on the screen. I like to include drive length on my ErgData screen. Thanks for the great review.

Good points. I certainly breezed past the ability to change metrics in ErgData - much like I missed a lot of ergzone’s customisation. I love them both. But it wouldn’t take much for one of them to totally tip the scales…

Yes, I like the Drive Length also. Aside from the Force Curve, the Drive Length is a really good indicator for me, that I'm rowing 'properly' 😁

Couldn't agree more. Let's hope ErgData finally adds an option to share workouts. Having built their success in great parts around a strong community, I still can't believe that concept 2 has been missing this opportunity in their app for so long and treats it only as a monitor extension.

@@rowalong No, I'm not a programmer, I'm just a keen rower/BikeErg user with mathematical insight. I sent suggestions and corrections to Mike at C2 and Thais/Gabriel at EZ and have seen them implemented on both. Unfortunately, one of my improvements to ED saw the 1 dp pace setting removed and not returned. Although I help both freely, and don't have any bias, I'm of the firm opinion that EZ is better during sessions and ED at the rest (chronological data storage etc). Since the "during session" aspect is much more important, I have to say ErgZone is the better app. I rarely use ErgData for sessions, but sometimes refer to it at other times as the sessions done on ErgZone are still recorded there! 😄

Maybe one day! I know it costs a lot to develop the apps, but you would have thought that this feature would have been first in their list.

Thanks, ergzone never convinced me it needs tutorial. Ergdata is my favourite. I use sometimes (2 a year ) Hydrow app with tablet connected to 55 inch TV and of course Rowalong and sometimes sunday Eric Murrays sessions - only if I feel im strong enough.

It’s funny. I think Ergzone is very intuitive. But needs a bit of time spent just getting used to it. I guess it’s the same for a lot of apps that don’t have walkthroughs.

So, I’m back on the machine after an injury and keen to be a bit more systematic about logging my sessions (no more forgetting to log on Google sheets!). So, just to confirm, if I use ErgZone, my metres will still be logged in the C2 log book?? Basically, I want to row along with you without having to program the monitor but still see it in my logbook. Is ErgZone the one for me?

i use my google chrome book with both apps. the screen is bigger than a tablet and folds 360 like a tablet.

Thanks. I’m still quite new so all of these features are rather unimportant to me. I’m still doing your 20 min rowalong. Question though, is rowing ok to do on a recovery day on a strength training program? That is, if I am lifting 3 days a week can I row 3 days a week on my off days and not Impact my recovery? Thanks.

As long as you're 1) Still fuelling your body properly and 2) Taking at least one total rest day a week, then you're totally fine to still do cardio. The only time it's a problem is if you're going too hard on the cardio days. It's unlikely you'll hit hypertrophy on a rowing machine that often, but do pay attention to your energy levels. And if your goal is to get bigger with the weights, make sure you're taking in enough calories for the cardio days. There's a balance here if you're doing cardio to try to lean out a bit - but you don't want to be in a large calorie deficit which can trigger your body to start using muscle for fuel.

Can I use ErgZone with Hydrow?

Not yet. They are opening up the types of machines they work with, but not Hydrow yet.

@@rowalong Yeah, I think Hydrow locked that machine into their system to keep people subscribed. Bluetooth only gives you the option to connect audio. I log my own workouts just for fun and for more motivation, as Hydrow doesn’t save them unless you’re a subscriber.

It blows my mind how incredibly weak ErgData is, when it comes to creating & saving workouts. You can only have one saved workout per distance. You cannot save 2 different workouts at the same distance, with for example, 2 different pace settings. This sort of idiotic limitation really grinds my gears. It is 2023 for Christ's sake, let your users create their own workouts, and give them different names, and different settings FFS. For example i might want two different workouts at 1000m. First, a slow one, maybe just as a warmup before i go and lift some weights, so i might want to call that 1km-warmup, and have the pace set quite slow. And i might want another 1km workout with pace set much faster, and call it 1km-sprint. Currently, ErgData cannot do that - if i create a 1 km workout, give it some setting for pace, make it a favourite so its in my favs list, that's great. But, the moment i go to create another workout at 1 km, with different settings, it overwrites the first. There's no way to have 2 workouts at same distance, with different settings. Really annoying.

@@rowalong I can't imagine how they could fail to imagine ppl might want to do that, but if you can pass it on and give them a nudge to fix it so ppl can properly save different workouts, with a name, so you can have different setitngs at same distance and so on, that'd be great. It can't be hard to add that functionality, everything else is in place, to select the settings you want, and upload to PM5. All they need to add is ability to properly save a named workout. Many thankyous :-)
